Barbara Streisand directed, co-wrote, co-produced and starred in Yentl. It was released 40 years ago but I was so impressed I never forgot that. What an AMAZING film!
I'm brand new with no experiences in this industry. I'm in the writing process now of a portfolio of several projects that i have in hope's to co-directing and directing. Your tips are so helpful, and I'm thank you for them. Most importantly to me the encouragement I get from this video is priceless. Thank you.
That's quite a company of names you added me to!! 😊❤ Though these incredible women didn't act in films they directed. I'm looking for female artists who direct and act xoxo
Ela, your advice about having an acting coach is spot on! I have directed myself in a little test shoot, but my short has become bigger than I expected so I recruited an actor I know and love for the role I was going to do because I wanted to focus on directing. Kind of wish I had hadn't done that.
ouch... yeah, I hear that a lot... People recruiting an actor for a role they should play, or recruiting a director when they should be directing. We learn and keep trying...!
Jodi Foster, Barbara Streisand and Natalie Portman for the win! Er, I meant for the extra credit. 😊 AMAZING TIMING BTW my current WIP will also be my directorial debut. 😮 (and yes, I’m in the film as well)(heaven help me)(😅)
yesssss. extra credit earned in spades! I knew these women directed, but didn't know if they directed works they performed in. Streisand for sure, but which films did Portman and Foster direct that they acted in? Gonna watch!
An acting coach on set that sounds nice is that normal? I know that I said Megan Good. I recently heard that Michael Jordan directed & cast in "Creed III"
Hi! Women actor-directors... you. Kira Muratova and Renata Litvinova -the first had been primarily a writer-director (although was the lead in one of her early bigger features) and the latter is primarily famous for acting even though directed great work. Maya Deren makes the list, but that's way back. Liv Ullman never directed herself which surprised me. Greta Gerwig technically directed herself once in a Dua Lipa music video, but I don't think that's what you meant. Interesting that Phoebe Waller-Bridge never directed herself.

Baby steps and learn as you go Thank You!
As always great content, and a really good performance. Ava Duvernay, Agnes Varda, Lina Wertmüller, Mira Nair, Euzhan Palcy, Ela Thier,

Hey, Ela. I'm Zaire Haylock. I love your video. I wanna star in, write, produce, and direct movies.

absolutely common to do that.

Also, my friend Francesca Root-Dodson directed herself as lead in her first feature Free Spirit.
Can I do the Alfred Hitchcock .. a profile lol
😊
What about Spike Lee
Barbara Streisand is the easiest answer.
