    My dad was a professional drummer. In 1966 he joined the US Army with an appointment to the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense) Command in Colorado Springs, CO. After that, he transferred to US Army Studio Band (currently known as the Jazz Ambassadors) in Fort Meade, MD. The Studio Band had two drummers....the other drummer was Steve Gadd (look up "Steve Gadd Cissy Strut" to see Steve playing with the band). Dad had followed Steve's career until he passed away in 2011.
    Dad and I watched this video together. While he was, of course, enamored with all 3 drummers... the one that stood out to him was Vinnie Colaiuta. No one has Steve Gadd's FEEL in playing, that's undeniable. But Vinnie is again on a whole other level. Vinnie cut his teeth playing with Frank Zappa and it shows. What's unbelievable about Vinnie, is that he can play at the level he does while Site Reading. Because Zappa wrote very long songs (20+/- minutes) in very odd time signatures (19/16, 21/16, etc.) Vinnie would have to Site Read during the concert. Check out any Jeff Beck concert with Vinnie and Tal Wilkenfeld (Bass) to see some of Vinnie's magic.

    Three of the greatest drummers of all time, Vinnie is an other worldly talent,surely the greatest all round drummer ever!

    This is the greatest drum solo ever! I drum, and this one has always blown my mind. These guys have skill that makes one wonder if you can rightfully can play the drums at all! After loving this for years, what a treat to see you getting to hear it! Time for me to press 'start' and feel inadequate, but it feels so good!

    Being a professional drummer since early 70's, I just had to share this with everyone, especially Imadrummin. I watch this every now and then and it still blows me away. I actually bust out laughing at times during this. I consider myself a well above average drummer, but these guys are on another level. Harri, as great as they are, there is NO way they could have rehearsed that exact performance. I believe the only part that was rehearsed was the end. IMHO

      @Imadrummin 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Robert. I had run across this before and glad it made it to Harri's channel for others to experience. The reason these guys can play it this way is because they are truly exceptional and feel it. I agree, the ending may have been rehearsed. Legends. 👍👍👍

      @@Imadrummin Great pick of Three Dog Night. Listening to that brought me back to the time when I was starting out with the drums and just loved his style, not fancy, but great feel. That's when I noticed the clear drums. Never cared for them, but he sounded good

    Probably the three best drummers of all time. Dave and Vinnie are still at the top of the pile. Steve is quite a bit older and not at his peak anymore physically. I've seen this clip many times over the years and my hands always twitch in anticipation throughout. And...I spontaneously applaud at the end. These three are on an altogether differet level to most drummers past and present. And...don't even mention how ridiculously insane they are at sight reading, especially Vinnie...omg, there are no words except, genius. Another thing that sets them apart from most, is their musical interpretation skills...you can't teach knowing 'how' and 'when' to play something. And...they have done it across multiple genres, something very few drummers ever achieve successfully. 👏👏👏

      @@Topjunkie-r4s I don't put other people's musical tastes down and judge who is "better" as music is very subjective. To say yawn to those 3 legends is just plain ignorant but you do you ...

      @@reallymysterious4520 no it’s not. It’s just true. Neil was great in Rush but VERY limited for a pro outside the band. Just the truth. Vinnie is simply a machine - none better. Exanple - in a 1 month span a few years back Vinnie cut a straight jazz album with Herbie Hancock, rock album with Sting and a metal album with Megadeath. All charted. He is the complete drummer.

      This is a very different Steve Gadd from the one you're talking about. Iron Maiden's Steve Gadd was mainly a road manager and passed away years ago. This Steve Gadd had nothing to do with them and is currently still alive and well. He's been a highly coveted studio and touring drummer for Paul Simon, BB King, James Taylor & Eric Clapton, among others.

    There is an older vid of two European, unknowns by most, drummers that will match this any day. It was amazingly intense and episodic. They played with in the same piece of music playing not just their personal styles but how they would interpret the music.
