  • Installation of Reliance PB30 generator Power Inlet Box on vinyl siding by an amateur.
It’s not the best way to do it, but it’s the way I did it, mistakes and all.
    Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing. I am going to wire up the same L14-30 receptacle. Yes, spray foam really expands, but it is quite useful, and as you indicated, is easily trimmed. We've used it for hose spigots, as well as sealing the flashing on the top of the chimney. When I installed my receptacle box on the house, I used a washer behind each screw hole, as my wall is brick and it wasn't going to budge. With the washers, I have just enough space to maneuver the lid off for installing wires. How do you keep the washers in place? I used a bit of electrical tape to hold them on the back of the box, punched the screw hole out, then put the box against the wall and started the screws.

I just put one in. Used 30 amp receptacle, 10/4 stranded wires, and 3/4" conduit. Pretty easy DIY. A lot better than running extension cords plus I can run the gas furnace if necessary. Thanks for sharing.

The transfer switch panel only came in late April, just before we left on a cross country trip. Hoping by the end of summer….

    Where is part 2?

Unfortunately I had to finish it in a hurry and didn’t get any video.
I ended up moving a total of 7 circuits from the main panel to the sub panel. While I ran one ground between the panels, I had to run hot and neutral for each circuit to the sub panel. I tested it after 3 circuits (furnace, refrigerator, sump pump) with the F150 Pro Power Onboard generator with no issues.
      Sorry…..

can i use 6/2 wire for 50 amp box

I’m not 100% sure but you can Google that. With wire size you need to know the temperature rise when running the maximum current.
I’m planning on 4 AWG for the 60A main panel feed.

Thanks, my outlet is a L5-30P but installed it and used a block as you did. Looks like it was installed on the house by electricians when the house was build next to the panel.
To think i almost just mounted the box inside my garage next to my panel, this looks way better andy 40Ft cord reaches from the side of the house to the backyard so the generator is out of the way.
