    • @Tank50us

Is it though? Remember that irl, air combat started with two planes shooting pistols at one another. And while it is a difficult shot to make, it's not impossible, especially for someone who was likely raised around firearms their whole life. The same would prove true during WW2, the most effective gunners were those who grew up around guns from an early age, as they could easily adjust to how to properly lead targets.

@@iffracem The first dogfight is believed to have taken place on 28 August 1914, when Norman Spratt, flying an unarmed Sopwith Tabloid, forced down a German Albatros C.I two-seater. Pilots then began firing hand-held guns at enemy planes, such as pistols and carbines. In August 1914, Staff-Captain Pyotr Nesterov, from Russia, became the first pilot to ram his plane into an enemy spotter aircraft. In October 1914, an airplane was shot down by a hand gun from another plane for the first time over Rheims, France. Once machine guns were mounted to the plane, either on a flexible mounting or higher on the wings of early biplanes, the era of air combat began.

@@IsaiahRichards692 He might be a dick yeah, but still id rather get killed than die in a fire with everything broken lol. Theres a scene at the start of the movie where they say the pistol he used is for suicide. The guy is cocky for sure. Shooting a pilot on the ground isn't okay, but this scene by itself doesn't indicate a great prejudice against rawlings. If it was another guy doing it I would interpret this as him checking on the crippled plane and seeing if the guy was still alive, maybe not by him but a salute would be cast before he got finished off. Falcon is a douche but that doesn't mean what happened here is inherently bad. Falcon didn't bargain that rawlings had fight left in him, or that his plane was capable of doing the fighting. He was wrong on both counts.

That isn’t inherently bad; there are sadists that keep their fetishes under control, but this guy is using a combat environment to excuse his wanton slaughter of helpless enemies. There were times when he outright shot down enemy planes, but when he had his way, he wounded the enemy pilots and let them fall to the ground. The only reason he was killing Rawlins was because he’d already made sure Rawlins knew who killed his mentor, and that he was next.

This movie is gold by comparison to the movies we get out of Hollywood today. As dumb, predictable and stupid as it is, as well as how inaccurate and unrealistic it can get, it has a good story, satisfying payoffs and good, old-fashioned fun.
I will say, when I first saw this years ago, I was not expecting the guy to whip out his Webley to shoot the Black Baron- that definitely caught me off guard. Sure, it is incredibly BS he landed the shot and completely impossible, but the payoff was great. Initially the pistol was used as a last resort to take your own life before burning to death in a plane crash. But here, he's using the pistol as a last resort to save his life, and the movie makes it work due to his background as a rancher and gunman.

Also, Richthofen did shoot down Hawker and was never a quasi-pacifist he turned into towards the end of the film.

Problem with foreign Films like above: they Show germans often like evil Monsters without heart.
And about the planes: The Film above shows the fake Richthofen always with Fokker Dr.1
But in reality he mostly flew Albatros.
Also the Flight scenes and scenes of the war are far more spectacular and "realistic" in the german film. Remember "das boot". It was successful because it was realistic and didnt show nazis as heartless monsters.

@@ulfybirgit Far too fictional. For example the Film states that Richthofen rammed and killed his famous teacher boelke to take his place.
Another tasteless fiction: Evil Göring killing nurses on the ground. When the germans attack their airfield they kill lots of women and musicians. When the allies stroke first there was not a Single woman running around.
Richthofen admired boelke. Boelke was his foster father who discovered him- he never would have killed him.
It dishonors the greatest Pilot of wwi showing him making such a Flight error in the end. One of boelkes main rules that he teached Richthofen: if you decide to attack, never give up and try to escape. Richthofen never ever would have done that! Never turn your back to the enemy you attacked!
In Reality he was unbeaten in the air. He was wounded by ground to air machine guns. He even managed to land his Dr.1.
When he was found he said: ich bin kaputt. And died on the ground.
In the german film the german pilots also honoring an allied Pilot. The german film shows german soldiers more as humans, as in das Boot.
I hope the americans never make films about Hartmann, Marseilles or Rudel.

First off they are wrong as like this scene dogfighting was first done with small arms and unarmed planes, second this is a god damn movie, not real life. There are going to be a few seemingly unrealistic things taking place in order to wow the audience. Third. This movie was inspired by a true story, not based off of it, anyone who passed English class knows there is a difference between those two words.
