      Makes no sense tbh...
      This is too much especially the 275lbs C&J.. One of the differentiators between very fit athletes and elites ones are the lifting ability.
      Having 10 C&J @275lbs at this stage makes no sense.
      What's next in 2024 ? 265 lbs snatches for reps ?
      These things should take place during the Semi finals+

      @@bonawah876 Are you dense or something ? Starting at 275 won't make more difference than 225+20-25/round in a 5/4/3/2/1 fashion or even 1/2/3/4/5 if you want it to be even harder.
      In the end the best will still be the best but the 99%+ of people who paid 50 bucks but won't make it to semi finals won't have paid to make a workout than litterally lasts 5 burpees box jumps over.

    these v-ups look very different to the ones on CrossFit's YT page, over there the standard is maintaining a hollow body (shoulders and feet off the floor), and here the demonstrator is touching the floor with both hands and feet in every rep (???)

    • @spencergsmith
      @spencergsmith ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m guessing it’s just because touching the floor creates a clear standard for judging. Standards for competition do not necessarily mean it’s the best standard for training.

      It's the strength separator of the QF. They are telling that even if you are very fit, you can't progress to semi if you are not STRONG

    • @Miiiiiiighty
      @Miiiiiiighty ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thom8363 Rubbish, even if they made it progressive like 5/4/3/2/1 from 225 and adding 20-25lbs every round this would have been more than enough.
      5 25lbs would make you end up at 345 which wouldn't be easy even for Games level athletes ).
      Anyway no one from the top athletes from semis won't be able to chain 275 c&j quite fast, so it isn't a real separator for them.
      Here we go from literally top 10% to top 1% or less.
      What is the message asking regular 90 percenters to chain 275 ? " Just juice ! " ?
      Also people are paying 50 bucks, the least for them is to get 5 decent workouts.
      It would be like putting a very technical and/or kinda strength needing movement ifrst in the Open like RMU or 185lbs snatches because " top 10% are supposed to be able to do it " ( plenty of people qualified without doing a single 185 snatch BTW ) while there are only 3 workouts.
      Would be bad programming imo.

Most are pretty good, but he’s becoming much to gimmicky with some shit. I mean some things are just absurd and ridiculous. You’re not finding the fittest on earth through some of these movements. You’re just not. Now having said that most movements are good. It’s just some things are really meh. At least I think so but that’s just me.

      @@spencergsmith a crossover has nothing to do with fitness, it’s just a skill.. dus get your heart rate up way more than doing slow crossovers

    • @spencergsmith
      @spencergsmith ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bodacious117 "a crossover has nothing to do with fitness, it's just a skill." Are you unaware that a large part of fitness is skill? 4 of the 10 general skills are neurological in nature -- coordination, agility, balance, accuracy -- and have very little to do with "getting your heart rate up." Here are some other skills which I imagine you have no problem labeling as "fitness" tests: handstand walks, rope climbs, pegboard ascents, overhead squats (after all, they don't test your strength or power output NEARLY as much as back squats), and then of course there are movements of which skill is a vital component, such as snatches, muscle-ups, and DOUBLE UNDERS (in case you've forgotten, for many people, the double under is not a limitation of cardiorespiratory endurance or stamina, but rather SKILL). Since the inception of CrossFit, Glassman contended that movements which require skill are an integral part of fitness, contrary to what most of the industry thought before 2000. Skill demands neurological capacity which comprises over half of the 10 general adaptations.
      Also, your statement about DUs and your heart rate isn't necessarily accurate. I'm MUCH better at DUs than I am crossovers, so I can recover quite well on a set of 50 or even 100 dubs, but even doing 10 crossovers wears me out. The entire point of high-skill movements is that the better you are at the skill, the less metabolically taxing it is on your system, but when your technique is poor, it requires much more energy to accomplish work. I suggest you go back and read the L1 training guide or some of the early Journal articles, there is much to be learned there.

      The problem is that some of these movements are great training movements, but a nightmare to judge/standardize.
      These should be avoided because it then make the wod a test of who can cheat legally the best instead of whose the fittest.
