- summing up some of the features of tomodachi life that would make a nintendo switch port of the game near impossible :) sorry to disappoint but i feel so bad about the copium i see every nintendo direct
this doesn’t mean a remake isn’t possible though! it’ll just be drastically different and i’m not sure if i really want that. bit like the bob the builder remake who actually asked for that

I imagine that the solution to the sexuality thing would be to just let players choose which "styles" (what Nintendo refers to genders in character creation these days) their Miis are attracted to. As for breeding, they don't have to explain it or anything. The target demographic of this game doesn't know what sex is. And we kind of do have a decent compromise between the Miitopia Mii Maker and the classic one in the form of the Switch's embedded Mii Maker (it's buried in menus for some reason, so I don't blame you for not knowing about it). As for age gaps or whatever, I think they could get away with leaving it the same. Iirc Miis who aren't adults couldn't marry anyway without the use of the aging potion. I don't think Streetpass and travelling are super necessary features either, as Tomodachi Collection (the first installment, which was Japan only) didn't have it and other games that had 3DS sequels with Streetpass features didn't carry them over to Switch sequels (such as Animal Crossing and Pokemon).

I think we're more likely to get a sequel, since TL has always been the primary series over Miitopia (which was simply a spinoff of TL) and has gotten a sequel before (TL being the sequel of TC)
So yeah. I think if a sequel *is* coming out, it's probably in development now.

I think the hardest thing about making tomodachi life port is the fact that the game was designed for two screens

that's what i've been saying for months! we'd lose stuff like drawing on the sand, drawing on miis faces, being able to drop a miis meal on the floor on purpose, and probably a LOT more. while the switch DOES have touch screen functionality, nintendo just.... refuses to use it, even if it'd make sense, because games seem to be designed to work in docked mode primarily. (seriously, im so mad about having to use the joysticks to pet my pokemon in scarlet when i'm playing in handheld mode; can't the console just recognize when i'm not docked and thus let me use the touchscreen?) the rhythm game deemo DOES have the ability for either touch controls or button controls, which i wish more game companies utilized, especially nintendo, since presumably they know the most about this gaming system considering they made it
They solved that with Miitopia, so why not with tomodachi life too?
@@BurrtoDaApe I haven’t played Miitopia for the 3ds. But I most of the time one of the screen was the menu or something unnecessary that the switch version dealt with easily and the other was the screen where the miis adventure and stuff. In the switch version you can access the menu with a button instead of if being there all the time. Tomodachi life would probably be harder because it focuses a lot on using both screens at the same time, like viewing all the apartments on one screen but seeing inside a miis apartment on the other screen.
that's probably the easiest part to solve... 2 screens is mostly a gimmick
I do think the LGTBQ+ stuff will be the biggest issue, but seeing how relationships worked in Miitopia gives me some hope. You could basically send characters on dates with each other and reach a "soul mate" rank through the friendship leveling system. The game was also given an M rating in some countries for LGTBQ+ content
Hopefully the amount of demands for the game will give us something
I had an idea where there's an option in the mii customization where it goes:
this mii likes dating:
girls
boys
anyone
no one
I feel like it would be easily understandable for kids and people who get mad at it can deal with it
I think a lot of these issues have relatively simple solutions, at least theory.
Babies could be handled the same, with the Miis saying they want to have the baby. Then when the baby 'arrives', that's all the say. It's vague but something like this would be all that is needed.
The baby Mii itself would just be created normally, without the makeup if players want it to be random. Otherwise they can choose a Mii to become the baby. Maybe the parents could ask you to take the babies first photo and you choose the face then.
Sexuality could just be liking girls, boys, everyone and no one to keep things simple. Or just straight up 'everyone' to avoid it altogether if gender isn't present, given players can saying no to a Mii asking another out.
As for age, there isn't really an ideal solution that doesn't limit the game other than adult vs child. Maybe adding 'teenager' or 'elder' as well but that's just creating more boxes that could seperate people that wouldn't usually be seperated. Age of consent varies by country and since we can simply tell a Mii not to pursue a relationship anyway, it doesn't feel like there's much need to set up a larger system other than children like children and adults like adults. Anything considered incestuous can just be denied by the player as well.
100% on the baby thing. we don't see the miis bonking, they say they want a baby and you can encourage or discourage it. that's it. afawk they could all canonically be materialized out of thin air or something. i dont think it's an issue at all
I used to make one mii a female, another a male but be designed female and just pray and pray that the ones i wanted to be gay would like eachother 😭

Actually, at 3:59, I don't think that's anti-piracy. It's missing Mii Maker data. When I was running the game on Citra, I got that face to pop up in Mario 3D Land on the save file, but once I put a Mii Maker file on the emulator it fixed. So it's not anti-piracy, that's just a placeholder for when the Mii data literally doesn't exist
every direct, I am hoping that there will be tomodachi life, but yes...things like streetpass won't work and thats so sad in my opinion
I think the thing that could give hope for something like streetpass is online friends, like their could %100 be a way to trade with friends you added online, like pick your islands clothing, and then fly to your friends island or something, maybe you could shop at their import shop, and buy something, then stop at their deck with the travelers and pick up a mii, and bam all of that stuff is solved, personally I think they could get past that and I really really hope they do
I’ve always believed there would probably never be a Tomodachi remake. The play style of the original game is such a relic of the 3DS era: you were encouraged to check on it throughout the day. Sadly, I don’t think the Switch is *as* portable as the 3DS (yes, it’s super portable, but you can’t fit it in a pocket or a bag like the 3DS), so I don’t think it would meld well with the Switch.
I *would* like to be proven wrong, though.

Very similar, as I didn’t have a DS(or any console for that matter) when growing up.
regarding babies, they could just make it work like the sims 4 where you could check whether or not the mii can have a baby or not, obviously there would be backlash but nintendo is so big I fail to see it actually harming them at all attraction could also work like the sims 4 where all miis would be bi/pan but the more they befriend/date a certain gender the more they prefer them romantically, idk, theres *alot* of possibilities here
another way it could work is like in stardew valley, where you can have a biological baby if you're in a heterosexual marriage and can adopt if in a homosexual one. as for the kids faces looking like their parents? well, we wont question that!

Apparently the game accidentally encouraged incest in the islanders by making it so that characters with the same last name end up dating each other. This was probably meant to be so that people like your parents would get married, but apparently they forgot siblings exist

I think that that promise of "making homosexual marriage" possible in the next entry was what prohibited them to make a next entry in the first place.
It would be something good, but it may have negative consequences, mostly to Nintendo themselves, in some ways.

As for stuff like Stretpass it wasn’t really all that utilized anyway, so they could easily replace it with something new. I believe that the predecessor to Tomodachi Life didn’t even have any Steetpass functionality as well. Also this is pure copium on my end but would be cool if they’re saving a port/remake/new game for Switch 2 and made it have Steetpass (or an equivalent at least).
Also their is a Mii Maker on switch with a bunch of new colors and options though it’s buried in the settings

If parents have makeup their child wouldn’t inherit the makeup. Makeup is an accessory. Children don’t inherit a hat or anything so it wouldn’t make sense if they inherited makeup.

I hate having hearts in Tomodachi except when the mii has a crush on the other mii I wanted, but most of the times it's not that and i dislike that.
I remember this game fondly! I didn’t play it as often as others, so a lot of the responses and special events were completely new and unique to me. It felt so organic, and I think that’s what made it so interesting to so many people.
I really think if they were brave enough to give a sequel a try, they could probably come up with some unique adaptations to bring it into the modern day. For example, homosexual couples could have the stork deliver their baby instead of the baby being born biologically. Hell, I’d be OK with an entity like the stork for all couples.
The lack of street pass is a bummer, but ultimately, I don’t know if it would deeply impact the rest of the game. I don’t think I ever actually touched on that feature back in the day.
All I know is that the 6 PM rap battles need to stay! Those were the best!

There’s a chance they’re waiting to release a switch 2, since tomodachi life had a lot of silly features using the mic n camera that the original switch doesn’t have
My favourite way of going around the no gay/queer ships is to just assign them the opposite gender but then create them the way I wish for them to be - yes the game will use the wrong pronouns and titles, miis might also not be too happy with receiving the opposite gendered clothing but that's about it. At least this way some queer ships can still happen but it's obviously only a workaround with how the game currently works.
I truly hope that when a sequel or even port does drop they will rework these relationship aspects and also include more drama - I wish for relationships to not all be happy ever afters (yes sometimes miis get divorced but I'd like more in between drama like jealousy or cheating for example, heck even for platonic relationships, I'd love for siblings and families to be more dynamic, etc!) I'd even love to see more relationship styles like partnerships or poly couples, it'd add some fun dynamics to the game and even more craziness!

There is the Gender Removal mod if you are playing on Citra or have a softmodded 3DS (I recommend you do this in current year if you haven't done so already) and there's another mod in development that effectively makes all Miis pan while also fixing some of the crashes that would often happen with same-sex couples edited in.

Also they don't have to have artificial insemination. In Fire Emblem Fates if your character has a same sex marriage they end up adopting kids. So Nintendo worked around the kids thing.

i think having babies would work as it already did, since in miitopia the additional customization is counted as "makeup" rather than inherent features of the miis face. sure, it'd result in several abominations, but hey, nothing that 20 layers of stickers and makeup won't fix!

I really want this game for the switch
My biggest issue is that if it ever gets made for the Switch, it’ll be way harder to have fun with it. The Switch sucks major ass, too big and heavy to carry around easily, dies fast, takes eons to charge. Playing games on it isn’t really fun, it’s the main reason why I gave up on ACNH.
I still have my Tomodachi Life at least… haven’t checked on it in many years and I’m kinda scared to go back into that commitment lmao.
I’ll never forget the lowest pair rating (sitting at 1%) was the relationship that never had any issues. Good times fr.

Another thing is a lot of the things in the game simply wouldn’t work on the Switch at least not without some kind of accessory. Many parts of the game utilized the camera and microphone which the Switch doesn’t have.
I wish we just got all the awesomeness of the switch in the original and also all the stuff from miitopia as well so we didn’t need to wait for a new game that was made for a switch

i think the easiest way to make gay miis a thing would just be to have the option to choose what gender your miis are attracted to (if anyone). that way if anyone has a problem with gay miis.... they don't have to have any. plus that way it's actually more inclusive, especially if you're making real people or existing characters because they actually have established identities. i also think it should be easy to toggle who is related to who and create families... i'm honestly not sure why they didn't allow that in the original. i honestly think the hardest thing about porting tomodachi life to switch will be the fact that we no longer have 2 screens, which is really what the game is designed for. that's probably THE only thing about the original game that ive yet to see a solid workaround for.
i think the biggest thing stopping them are the socio-political effects of adding queer representation. the biggest thing that stopped them adding gay marriage in the first place was the fact that it’s still illegal in japan. even if they truly want to, i think nintendo can’t risk it because of the backlash they’ll receive from both japanese and foreign politicians, but potentially from other shareholders/executives they work with too

the Japanese version of tomodachi life, adults and children can be in relationships if im not wrong, so they are definitely not worried about backlash. Seeing as other nintendo properties have gay relationships and representation its probably just more to do with how hard it is to port with its dependence on the second screen.

It's a shame a bunch of issues you mentioned might lead to issues making a sequel or even a port. Miitopia's remake showed a new way to customize Miis that would be helpful for Tomodachi Life(especially if they add more wigs), while a part of me still wishes for a Switch version one day I have to accept it might not work out.

Really, the whole game would need to be reworked not only from the ground up around the Switch's functionality (or the supposed Switch 2's), as well as implementing more anti-incest mechanics (I had to use a save editor to manually designate siblings, as the game only uses the sibling relationship type for babies that grow up; it WILL work normally for any Mii, however.) and customization options for more people of all walks of life (like maybe more voice options, the ability for both the US and UK English voices to appear in ALL English releases; throw in an AU voice as well because why not). I'd also imagine babies would use the Mii's non-makeup appearance, which seems like the most reasonable outcome but also might be odd for those Miis that use a minimalist base face and make their whole face with makeup.

Wasn't Miiverse kind of a spiritual successor to Tomodachi Life anyhow? If they ain't gonna port Kid Icarus Uprising onto Switch (Please do, though) then it's unlikely this game will be either.
All they gotta do is remove the weird shit, add gay marriage, a way to make miis related to each other, add some features, and boom. A game that's ready to release on the next console. Literally free money
Honestly my big thing about a re-make is just a desire for a cute game with horoscopes. The original concept for Tomodachi Life was just a simple fortune-telling game that blossomed into something with way more features. I downloaded a ROM just because I'm in a point in my life where I could really use some reassurance, no matter the source. I'd love to see a nintendo game similar to tomodachi life with tarot readings, an option to add blood type, & more personalized horoscopes instead of just the compatibility tester & ranking board. Karens hate gay people, and Karens hate horoscopes, so I question how well it'd sell outside Japan. I really don't like the homophobia, maybe they could do something like animal Crossing's style feature, so you can choose a character's general gender expression, and other characters' can be attracted to styles you pick. It'd make compatibility tester messages like "Oh? It looks like [mii] is harboring secret feelings!" a lot more bittersweet if their crush doesn't swing the same way. "Sweetheart & Special Someone" were both nice terms that I think could be re-used for a remake, maybe marriage would need a shy term like "life partners" or something as Karen repellent Nintendo can hide behind.

A lot of features couldn't work how they did on the 3DS but I am sure they could make it work. Heck, even in Miitopia with the creator codes and whatnot they wouldn't need QR codes, but if they wanted to bring that back since it is so convenient they could just use the mobile app. Someone will complain either way. Haha. I want more gender options. I am neither male nor female, I am a nuisance and my pronouns should be able to reflect that.
In modern Nintendo games, ‘gender’ is more so assumed by the player rather than the game. Splatoon, for instance, does this. There are “styles” you can choose from, but the gender of the characters are only inferred, never explicitly defined. I believe a similar implementation, much like Miitopia, would solve this issue. In Tomodachi Life, while you cannot directly affect who your Mii gains feelings for, you CAN directly stop them from pursuing it. As for when Mii’s give birth to a child, it would simply be a child. They wouldn’t attach a predetermined “gender”. This is the only way I could see Nintendo skirt by this problem with as minimal controversy as possible.
Just make it so only adult miis can be gay. You can customize if the mii likes guys, girls, or both in the mii settings.

Hate to say it, but I have to agree. Tomodachi Life has camera features exclusive to the 3DS which the Switch doesn't have. It would be near-to-impossible for a Switch port of the game to actually happen.
