Hey Jamie, thanks for all the informative videos! I used to DJ years ago, old school turntables and mixer, at the warehouse parties in London. Recently decided to get back into it after a 10 year hiatus and ordered myself a Traktor S2 mk3. While waiting for it to be delivered I’ve been watching your tutorials to get myself back up to date with the modern tech, so cheers!!
I was wondering how to completely isolate EQs, since some DJs I've listened to seem to completely isolate vocals and such sometimes but I could never seem to get that same level of isolation when mixing and using the EQ, now I know why... lol
Thank you for including the Prime 4 and Denon in this video. I was wondering why my sessions were sounding "off" and assumed it was just a kind of learning-curve for different software/hardware than I've grown accustomed to.
Thanks Jamie, I have the Prime 4 and noticed that these could be changed in the settings, but has no idea why I would need to change them: it all makes sense now!! :-) cheers
You know what would be nice? Is if they had a mixer to where you could set the isolation on the individual frequencies so if you wanted to keep your highs and mids on the eq setting but set your low on the isolator mode that would be sick because then you could use and shape the different eq the way you want and you could filter in and out the different frequencies how you want
i believe there is a little difference in the hertz range pioneer use to each band of high mid and low. i.e the low on the 900nxs may have a band drop down to 200mhz and the nxs2 has a band down to 250mhz. similarly to the other frequencies in the upper spectrum of mids and highs but in khz. its only subtle to the ear mind but they changed it in their harware so they now give you and option to choose.
Stu Atkinson is right. But the difference is Isolator EQ full kills the EQ band you adjust. EQ is generally -26. Same thing as the thing crossfader is talking about
Total kill is the only way to go. Pair that up with a 4 band eq and your set. I never noticed the difference, till I sold my DJM-800 for a XONE 92 a few years back. Now the DJM-V10 has implemented the 4 band eq, and I can't wait to use one.
Thxs Jamie..as I listened to ther DJs playing EDM I was wondering how the deep bass sounds disappeared while mixing into intro with vocals...Thanks..your tips always help..
I like playing around with both settings depending on what I'm spinning as a general rule of them the more organic a song sounds the more likely I'll use EQ but i usually spin house and therefore usually use ISO could you guys do a video like this but for channel fader curve?
I'm starting to realize that Serato is such a solid program but when it lacks features it LACKS features. I think I'm going to compile a lot feedback/features eventually and make an attempt to email them, hoping they take it into consideration.
Did you ever do it? We could get a Reddit group or something to send it in bulk, maybe they'd listen. I'm watching this video after trying other brands and realizing I like their EQ better. Also very disappointed.
good luck - they're happy to lose loyal customers by not chasing firmware to keep the much-loved sl3 and sl4 active. Do it that way and you can access the mixers with full kill built-in
I've been using isolator eq since I started DJing electro house, well I started using it after that when I found the ability in a controller to do it, but it gave me the ability to kill the bass. With Tec House I use it and with other genres I also use it but be careful sometimes not to totally kill the bass. rarely use EQ setting anymore.
Thank you for that info, I just switched in Rekordbox to Isolator. Theres also a new Option to switch EQ Type from 900NXS to 900NXS-2 . Does it matter which of those I chose?
I believe nxs2 have different frequency range on eq, some people were complaining that in older pioneer mixers taking off lows was causing taking some mids as well. Overall I would say it depends from personal preference what is best for you. Just check all settings and find what is best sounding for you (my preference is usually eq)
@crossfader As always excellent videos with good content... I will like to see a video going deeper into the EQ theory. For example, I mix electronic music and my low knob can go from the -0 to approximately 4+ frequency, in my Denon X1800 which the low frequency max can reach 6+. The same thing with my mid and high frequency. Then I control the PK, lowering the gain of the channels... But i see a lot of dj's playing with the knobs just to the center. Sometimes I ask to myself what should be the best practice... I have been doing something wrong for the last 25 years... LOL!
Gracias por el video, muy practico para saber mas sobre mi DDJ1000. ¿Se puede quitar de la pantalla del jog la visulizacion de los bpms mediante Rekordbox?
Hello and thanks for sharing this knowledge.i have a question.I'm using cross dj pro on mobile and i have only 3 eq setting one is force one is classic and one is DJM eq.which of these 3 will make total kill?
I have 900 nxs2 ill use isolator switch for techno I also have xzone 92 and that's a different ball game completely if you can mix on the 92 u can mix on anything
Hi CrossFader, could you tell us how to mix Hard Techno? I know It's Long mixing, but how to mix that? I haven't mix hard Techno before ㅠㅠ,, Thank You, I'm waiting :)
question:I use numark ns6 mk2 on serato when I down all eq volume totally down, even on 6db or 12 db eq gain so that means this is "isolate" by system default?
@@ottoquattro C'mon... there is so much great pieces of software out there? name me one reason, why virtual dj is better than the other software like rekordbox... (in case you didn't noticed: you are supposed to use your DDJ 1000 with it)
@@LLemm-gh8bb The main reason is that I am using VDJ for over a decade and set the cue points in all of my tracks in VDJ since back then. Besides I have too many playlists in VDJ, I feel comfortable with the layouts and I can use my Deezer account to stream tracks in my sets. I was an analog vinyl DJ before and I can do whatever I want to do as a DJ with VDJ. Of course I tried rekordbox with my DDJ1000 and compared it with the latest version of VDJ. I can't find any reason to change my software. Where do you see the big advantages in rekordbox and why do you want to convince random people of rekordbox? Are you working for them?
To every DJ who is reading this: It's not important what you use to mix your DJ sets as long as you are passionate about it and as long as you have some fun with your favourite music! Feel free to use the turntables, cd-players, mixer, headphones, controllers or the software which suits you best!

I have been looking for that function for so long ! Thank you so much, my tech house sets will sound even better

Cheers mate - good advice here. I checked out my DJ808 and, while Serato does not have the setting, I am glad to report that the unit is 100% kill.
Thanks for sharing. Im a bedroom Dj and have been playing with my eq on normal. But the sound and blend when mixing, sound much better on isolate 👊

I also saw that setting underneath called eq type. It had the option for 900nxs or 900nxs2. What's the difference?

Amazing tutorials these past couple weeks! Really answering all the questions I’ve been having. Thank you!
Cool video, I have the Pioneer SZ and the EQ is full cut. So ISOLATOR setting.
Tis a banging vid mate, I’m a DnB head at heart so this makes it nice and definitive what to go with :)
Very interesting, I’m quite new to modern DJing and I never thought about that before
Thank you so much! I own a DDj-1000 and this vid changed everything! -isolator- Now I know forever!

i always hated pioneer mixers for there eq´s, didn´t know that isolator switch. very helpful thx
This is lit! Thank you so much. Believe this is going to improve my mixes sooo much just by removing that residual sound!
Great piece of insight here! Thanks!

AMAZING KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS
Really good tip thanks 🤩
Can't we put it on isolator and turn the bass eq knob partially down? That way we have access to both.
To clarify, I'm not saying there's no reason to pick the EQ option. I'm saying this seems like a nice middle way in case you need access to both.
That was my thought as well
Its more sensitive that way
If the crowd is in a club with the music blasting they will be able to tell the difference
Just got my DDJ1000 and wanted total kill. Thanks for that 👍
Good video and great tip! Serato are you listening?
So helpful, thank you!
Thanks I will give a try I used always kill eq, like it's called in vdj. But know I want to ear how it sound without kill
Thanks this was helpful.
