    Great inspiration. I am looking into making an intake for a CBR 600rr that will power a Formula Student single-seater. Has to be custom as it must comply with hundreds of rules and this seems like a good method.

    Super interesting data, thanks for this! if by any chance you ever get hold of a N54B30 intake manifold, it would be interesting to see how it compares to these M serie manifolds as it doesn't have nearly as hard bends as these do. And some people have claimed great results with it on M50 and M54 engines.

      I was just going to comment about this. It might be easier to make an adapter (with fuel injector bungs) to fit a stock N54 intake.

      I'm in the process of putting the Deepmotor N54 intake on my M54.. holes are different that's all, and best part is it's made for retrofitting port injection so already has ports and even comes with fuel rail..

I found an e34 rear cover for him and he fabricated some dual mounts, added a beam in the trunk and triangulated it to the rear struts. I was real proud of what he did. He is currently looking at 210 options for down the road. I’ll share this comment with him. 😁 Thanks so much and wish you the best on your Z3. Keep me updated.

    Interesting video. Is the idea for the manifolds for forced induction or N/A engines? I drive a e46 330 and it has always interested me that there does not seem to be that many tuning parts available for the M54, like larger throttle bodies and aftermarket manifolds etc. Some supercharger kits available and ITBs but as soon as you hear any one person mention anything about looking to tune their M54, there are 10-15 people commenting that it is a stupid idea and not many gains to be had from the engine.

    • @teddyroweshow
      @teddyroweshow  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you sir and I agree. Your comment had me laughing because I’ve also heard the same thing. I honestly don’t get it. To answer your question the first intake in the video is for Tyler’s Turbo Z3 coupe. The second manifold is NA for an engine build going into my e30. My goal is to get 3-4 different kinds of intake manifold designs done for dyno testing. I try not to get my hopes up and we’ll see what happens. Thanks again.

    Curious- since the outer cylinders have such a hard time getting air/ fuel would it be possible to build an intake with 2 or more smaller throttle bodies? 1 for cylinders 1-3 and another for 4-6? I mean I know its possible but would it actually be able to function or would it cause issues with ms42/43 or anything else? Thanks, love the video

    • @adamjellison161
      @adamjellison161 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      or even 2 separate but exact intake manifolds similar to the exhaust manifolds on the m52/54 where its 2 separate pieces? This would definitely be hell with the DME with double the sensors wouldn't it? Also getting relatively equal amounts of air to each one but I guess you could use 1 air filter to a Y set up?

    • @teddyroweshow
      @teddyroweshow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m glad you asked this. I saved aside some m42/44 throttle bodies because they have a unique dual throttle. I thought 1 each for 3 cylinders like you mentioned would solve that too. The throttle cable vs drive wire based on people’s different applications. As for a production manifold I struggled to figure out how to do that. Then at some point I just wanted to get something done. Help build my confidence kinda thing. Thanks and I’m open to conversation and ideas.

    Hey mate, do you know what the ‘boost limit’ of an m52 manifold is? I stopped making more power beyond 20psi with a 3584r turbo, 3 inch dump and twin 2.25inch exhaust. I’m curious if I simply hit the limit of the m52 manifold or if it’s something else. Would like to hear your opinion.

      Sometimes the high boost creates enough heat to negate gains. You might try a very efficient intercooler.

      From what I read, dual plenum is only good for V engines, dual tb on a single plenum would probably introduce turbulence. A centered tb on a single plenum is the best way to go on an i6

    Wow, the stock m54 head intake port is quite a lot worse then m50tu? As someone that tried and built intake manifold myself, for m52tub28 engine, I know how much time and effort it requires! I did it quite a lot worse then you guys too :D. It worked, but I felt no gains, so i ditched it, should have made maf logs... M50 manifold made no improvements on my engine on a dyno, at the least m52tub28, if anything it showed 4hp less then m54b25 manifold... Im really interested to see the results you guys will get! Good job and good luck with the project! Manifolds look awesome.

    Thank you very much for sharing your work. One question, can an S54 crankshaft be installed on an M50 and have greater displacement?

    • @teddyroweshow
      @teddyroweshow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the s54 crank will fit into the m50 block. Metric Mechanic did sell a crank adapter but it was expensive to produce and we no longer sell it. It was had to justify. The s54 crank has a better journal overlay between the rod bearing and main bearing then the s52. If your looking for a 3.4 liter build it would take a stroke of 94mm and a bore of 87.5mm. The walls become thin at that bore and your rod ratio suffers at that stroke. The m50 is a shorter block then the s54. Custom pistons and rods are a must. I’ve been down that road and it was okay but nothing to brag about. Thanks again for asking

  • @drewdavis239

    is there a reason the injectors are so far up the runners , and don't appear to point at the rear of the valve? (first manifold) p.s. my brothers name is Tyler Davis. I don't claim to know what's better, Just a honest question. maybe you address it further in the video?

    • @teddyroweshow
      @teddyroweshow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. Thanks. Tyler wanted the injectors higher up because his theory is giving the fuel a bit more time to cool the air and mix.
      As for the angle of the injectors. I didn’t wait to get the proper materials and I used injector adapters we have for the m44. They’re to short and should be longer. Good eye. I’m still learning and since then I’ve corrected that. This video is technically a year old. I debated on posting this because I was hoping to be further along with the project. Had to finish my X3 and start on my ti. Got spread thin. I’ll pick it back up and continue to share. Thanks again. I appreciate the discussion.

      ben alameda racing says the same thing, latent vaporization of fuel its like free water meth cooling with the fuel further up the Runner. his channel is a hidden gem even if its ford stuff the secrets are universal. i still wonder how it effects sequential injection trying to time valve events , or if its basically batch fire at that point. i never saw much loss running simple digital system batch fire vs ms41/42/43 ect. thanks for the reply

    First I love this video because you're doing the stuff I love to do... But we need to get you a 3D printer. You are currently on step two. Fabrication of a useful manifold.
    Step one is to quickly iterate a bunch of designs with some plastic cheap and easy printed runners until you find what you want to make on the flow bench. Because doing all that work and tooling and everything Well we don't need to tell you how much work that actually is. But when you get to the end and you find out man you just need to change this one thing or it would work better if you did this differently... You want to find that out on the cheap plastic that automatically printed out while you were doing other things. You don't want to find that out after you have a week's worth of work in something.
