not sure how to help with the birds 🤔🤦‍♂️ but expanding foam will fill those holes really easily and seal it, him perhaps a scarecrow !?

I bought some pin wheels on Amazon that spin in the wind , I know birds don’t like the flashy movement

To fill holes you could also use some spray foam/gap filler and then trim off excess later. But I think visual deterents would work also.

@@mikecothran7033 I’m definitely going to fill it in when it warms up, but I think the bird will just make another hole somewhere. Such an odd battle

These temperature amplitudes which you get in America from one day to another are incredible. It never happens where I live and it generally does not happen much anywhere in Europe, the weather typically changes gradually over several days. I can never remember going from +15 degrees to -8 degrees Celsius in 2 days. If it took 2 weeks it would still be considered an extreme change. It is amazing that the plants can tolerate such fluctuations.

@@tomaszskodowski1465 I know. It’s crazy. I’m sure it’s not easy on any of the plants or animals. And these cold temperatures are usually what we get in January and February

My wife is from England but has lived with me in NJ for decades. We still get calls from overseas generally in February and August, checking on us because of weather from hell. They still don't believe we find it normal.

I live off the coast of Lake Erie and we use party lasers to keep the seagulls and geese away from the docks. Works real well aT night to drive them away. During the day I have heard of marinas using a loud popping machine using propane to keep birds away.
Finally some people put streamers and reflective pin wheels out on their boats to keep them away.
I have seen a mix of success with all those.

Looks like a Downey woodpecker to me. Frustrating for sure. Shiny glittery things scare them. Try some Christmas tinsel wrapped around them. I have used old cd discs hanging from a string as well. They spin and reflect sunlight at them.

I agree with the other comments. Repair with spray foam - the type for "big gaps." If you've never used it, it's very messy and ends up expanding more than you'd think.
Use deterrents for the birds. On my property, birds like to sit on my fake owls. I would try tinsel and suspended cds - preferably heavy metal music discs. That'll get em. Or cd-roms...
I wonder if there's a liquid concentrated animal deterrent you can spray like Deer B Gone.
