I don't have a car. I don't even drive - but I still find this sort of thing mildly interesting and on here that always gets upscaled to fascinating, purely on the basis of your always excellent delivery manner and personality when it comes to producing these videos...
That's a nice little coupe, RK! And I am glad to hear you mention safety and using GOOD jack stands. We have lost too many good folks who were in a hurry and/or got careless.
This brings back memories,..gawd ! I can remember having to replace a few of these switches on older cars, when I worked at a service station back in the '60's. The guys there always got us 'teenagers' to do the dirty work then. This was when a Service Station was really a SERVICE station. We had to pump gas, no such thing as self serve' back then, repair tires, do grease and oil change jobs ( yes cars had to be greased then too) and wash the cars too. Remember the man who wore the Texaco Star, well my uniform was the competition , we wore ESSO uniforms then. Oh Oh ,..I'm rambling here!
They were the good ol' days!! I never worked in a Service Station but I did work at a Gas Station in the early 70's!! Use to pump the gas at 28¢ a gal., clean front and back windows, give Green Stamps and check the oil if asked!!☺
Fantastic tutorial! I'm sure someone will find that very useful. It's amazing what you can find out on TH-cam. Who needs schools when you can learn from TH-cam tuts :D
Hi I have a problem with my brake lights staying on and not going off on my 1951 Buick Special. I'm going to try and see if the switch is the problem. Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. Will try replacing it in a few days. I had a question do you need to bleed the brakes after replacingthe switch? Thanks
A few years ago on a camping trip I thought I had a brake light out on my car. No one to help me check. So I set the video camera up on a tripod had hit record. lol Yep i had one out. Your little test here reminded me of that. lol
I'm glad I was there to help :D lol looking good bud Safety First I had to do brake light work on my old Chevy just recently somebody told me the same thing no tail lights or brake lights LOL
Thanks for sharing with us Roadking. I've not seen a brake light switch like that one before. Is it the type they used when the car was new or was the braking system replaced at some point? When i have a car up on a jack stands if I have a wheel off I slid the wheel under the car as an extra something to stop the car falling to far in case the worse happens.
lost a couple friends that way too. thanks for posting that i have the same problem with my '52 Ford but since it's not on the road yet (body is still dissassembled, need some fenders or a wizard with sheet metal) wasn't going to worry to much till it got there. Was there a wiring kit you picked up for your truck? (mine is still on the original 6 volt positive ground... )
Cool video. I all ways put blocks or a spare tire under the car just in case. My dad knows too many people that have been gotten by jack stands failing. Sorry to hear about your friend.
Thanks Rash!! I think it will be OK, what little air was in there will probably work it's way to the reservoir that was only a couple of inches away!! If the pedal gets spongie we'll get some help and bleed them!!☺
Its interesting that that the builder decided to go with a pressure switch. It was probably the easiest way to go during the change over to a booster setup. And in all honesty, its probably a better switch than the shitty one's they used on the older stop points.
I think my 64 Ford Galaxie had a switch like ...Sure is better than some of those crappy plastic ones with a metal snap in sleeve thing that stripped out they had under the dash of a lot of cars in the 70's
Rk I too lost a friend who was crushed by a car its not nice i had my legs pinned to the floor due to a cheap set of jack stands still got the dents in my shins to prove it LOL

Yeah buddy!
Brilliant brake light camera interaction with your audience. Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.
Thanks Mate!!☺
RK, perfect diagnostic procedure. You start at the lowest denominator and work your way up.
Thanks Mate!! We were hoping for a blown fuse!!☺
I'm putting together a 29 tudor. Just finished working on the roof wood
Fantastic tutorial! I'm sure someone will find that very useful. It's amazing what you can find out on TH-cam. Who needs schools when you can learn from TH-cam tuts :D
Yeah Buddy!! I learn something new everyday from YT☺

Yeah I had to use the camera to make a trunk latch!!☺
I like those stands with the safety locks. Never seen those before.
Good job on the fix. I was waiting for brake fluid to be pouring out of there!
Thanks alot PAPA!!☺
I'm glad I was there to help :D lol looking good bud Safety First I had to do brake light work on my old Chevy just recently somebody told me the same thing no tail lights or brake lights LOL
Yeah if nobody told me I'd still be driving around with no brake lights!!☺
Good job testing , and replacing. I agree on the safety of jack stands. now time for a bottle of Cold Beer. Cheers !
Thanks Bud!!☺
Nice simple circuit and very efficient for it's job.
Thumbs up ...... Bob.
Yeah Buddy!! I wish everything was that simple!!☺
Nice clean little fuse block.
Yeah Buddy!! ☺

Nah that whole system was replaced at one point!!☺
lost a couple friends that way too.

It had a Painless wiring system in it but we had to do alotta rewiring of it!!☺
Thanks Roadking ! It's nice to see it done
very nice work. and a fast fix, Cheers my brother King. The Dizz.
Thank you Mate!!☺
Thanks, Roadking. Simple fix when you know what you're doing. :>)
Yeah, I thought is was gonna be a blown fuse!! But it still wasn't too bad!!☺
Cool video. I all ways put blocks or a spare tire under the car just in case. My dad knows too many people that have been gotten by jack stands failing. Sorry to hear about your friend.
Thanks Bud!!☺
RK, another great video!!
Aren't you going to have to bleed the brakes after opening the brake line?
Thanks Rash!! I think it will be OK, what little air was in there will probably work it's way to the reservoir that was only a couple of inches away!! If the pedal gets spongie we'll get some help and bleed them!!☺
That is an old Cal Custom 500 steering wheel. They were very popular back in the 70's. I had one along with a Dixco Tach on my 56 Chevy.
Yeah Buddy!! ☺
Hello compatible parts for Buick 51? on which site???? possibility to buy for Belgium ???
Awesome dude. Don't save money on jack stands for sure!
What about bleeding the brakes? Pretty interesting that they use a pressure switch instead of a mechanical one.. never seen that before!
tester239 same. I've never seen that kind of switch before. I think I'd be bleeding them after that. C'mon Road King
Its interesting that that the builder decided to go with a pressure switch. It was probably the easiest way to go during the change over to a booster setup. And in all honesty, its probably a better switch than the shitty one's they used on the older stop points.
Yeah it's definitely a better set up than the plastic pedal switch!!☺
Good repair job there Buddy!
Thanks alot Buddy!!☺
do you have to bleed the brakes after?
I like the keyed jack stands. Nice fix.
Thanks Bud!!☺
Like the 4 ways, the brake light should work key on or off. I'm sure they do because they are on the same fuse. Only the turn signals need the key on.
You're right!!☺
I think my 64 Ford Galaxie had a switch like ...Sure is better than some of those crappy plastic ones with a metal snap in sleeve thing that stripped out they had under the dash of a lot of cars in the 70's
Yeah this is the first time I ever had to replace this type!!☺
Helped me out! Thanks.
Do I need to run one wire to my battery and one to my tail lights
Nice to see your ride.
Thanks Goomy!!☺
I wonder if this is a similar setup as my RV, all my other lights work except for my brake lights
Thanks. This is what I needed to see
