Now that I have cancelled my GT order, I shall try and source a used XR and follow this series to see if it might be a viable alternative for me in the future!🙏🏾
Dado, on the connectors you were having trouble getting off, you need to squeeze the raised part just below the white tab as you are pulling. It’s a dumb design, because you’d think after you unlock the white tab that it should just pull off. That second step is what trips people up.
We will never need FM again after this. Someone is building a certain something. Can't wait for a battery box aftermarket. Everything is coming. We won't even need an oem FM part. We'll just buy parts. And be free. WHOOOOOOOO
The ChiBatterySystems video has a really good explanation of how to remove the connectors without breaking them. Don't know if it works. I broke mine before I found the video. I love my CBXR battery though!
For detaching XR Connectors make sure to push down on the white portion by the white latch after unlatching. There is a little push latch in there as well that you need to depress while you pry it off with the screw driver.
so how do I reach down into the white part? My fat fingers can't seem to apply enough pressure to it... Do I use a screwdriver there too?? I'm afraid of breaking even more of that flimsy clip
@@surfdado hmm from what I recall I just pushed down pretty hard on it with my thumb while I pried it off. To be honest though I may have broken it long ago and just forgot about it though 😂
There are a good number of VESC Pints out there, it’s a little harder to do as it involves more DIY work but there’s several good videos out there, just search “VESC Pint”
I've been told the LFOCv3 will fit into a Pint enclosure box (you should reuse if possible because of its waterproofing) but you will have to solder your own adapters for the connectors afaik. I know of several VESC'd Pints
@@surfdado Awesome, thanks for replying I'll definitely be looking into it. I just got a stock pint a couple weeks ago and its super fun. Not very happy with the software locks tho haha. Thanks for all the great content keep it up!
Yes, you can do that. Going BMS-free is not a long term solution though. Your cells will become unbalanced sooner or later. So you will need to put in a different BMS like the Ennoid XLite to keep your cells balanced. Unbalanced cells without a BMS will eventually lead to a Li Ion fire if letting it escalate for too long, i.e. continuing to use the board
@@pierrouk the conversion will not affect your range -I suggest you check out the Vescify Discord - there's a bunch of guys who've done Pint conversions on there: discord.gg/qr8qdNsE
Hey surfdado how’s this info hold up a year later? are there better options or methods to doing a vesc conversion? my controller died on me and I’m going to have to do the conversion soon!
Hi, just heard about VESC and am interested to learn more. Is the conversion process reversible? Can you convert back to the OW controller later if you wanted to?
Hallo ich wollte mal fragen, wo bekomme ich das Kit her ? Mein Board geht nicht mehr ich gehe davon aus das bei mir die Platine beschädigt ist daher würde ich die Sachen tauschen. Akku geht .
A VESC based controller is a full open source replacement for the FM controller. You completely remove the FM controller and instead you put in a VESC compatible controller like the LittleFOCerV3 I'm using. This controller now does all the balancing etc, You get a lot more configurability, but you're no longer getting the exact board feel you're used to. To some people it feels even better than the XR, but to others it might feel strange and awkard. But the VESC firmware is still evolving so eventually it should be surpassing the FM firmware. But for someone who's not a DIY geek I'd only recommend taking this path if your FM board is broken.
@@surfdado Thank you very much! You’ve helped me with my decision. In this case, since my 4209 is perfectly functional, i’m just gonna get a CBXR instead 👍
Hi Tim, thanks! DM on TH-cam? Not sure how that works. What clips are you talking about - the ones on the automotive connectors? I think I'll be fine for now, I can't imagine the connector coming unplugged even without the clips, considering how hard it is to pry those connectors loose.
Plus or XR doesn't matter if you make your own battery - original V1 OW is not a good idea because of the much slower motor - 11kv vs 14kv means 20 percent slower at same voltage
pretty sure that it can - I know of several people with VESC'd Pints. And the LFOCv3 is small enough to fit. You'll need to make your own adapters for the connectors though
Awesome content, thanks for pioneering this stuff. I just ordered the kit from makers pev and started printing my controller box.
Me too. I need someone to print me the connectors cover
Sweet. Looking forward to this series!
Love modding the Onewheel.. I purchased the GT40 after your review! Changed my pint life forever!!
Excited for the rest of the series. My XR's BMS just fried itself, considering converting it to a VESC build.

I’ve been seriously considering this but I have NO idea where to start. Godsend!
Exactly what I was hoping you would do soon, thank you!
This is amazing, definitely gonna save this series to fill in the blanks as I do the same when I get a lil focer. Fk fm
Psyched to follow along this series! This is the future of the sport. #BeyondFM
Perfect timing! I've got my little FOCer on the way and will be doing the exact same thing soon.
It smells of GT potential power in an XR style build. It smells like freedom

Super weiter so
Omg this is what I’ve been looking for. So can you explain about removing the bms? Can this work on a 4212 with a dead bms completely removed?

Nice good for non working boards doesn't make much sense for a working board though unless vesc gets a bit better.
I agree with that - if you got an XR that works well for you, don't rush into a VESC conversion

there's several options now - I suggest you look at pev.dev or join the Vescify Discord for more info. Also the VESC onewheel FB group can be useful

Yes, fully reversible. No need for any of the FM parts to get destroyed in the process
The GT has heat issue, FM never upgraded their motor heat dissipation when upgraded the power output!

If I'm planning on replacing the battery, does it matter if I start with an XR or a plus or original OW?
