For all those wondering what's the point in fixing these: if you're doing commercial work, print, or high-quality publishing, these anomalies will be glaringly visible in your final result, and the more you stylize your photos, the more likely it is that they will be pronounced. Also, you don't want to be in a position where you post or print a photo just to notice a speck of dust destroy your entire workflow.
I have been watching your videos for more than five years now. I learnt 90% of all I know in Photoshop from your TH-cam channel. Thank you boss From Nigeria
I've been using this technique for many years now and it's a must use feature. In my case we want nice crisp white backgrounds to our images so after applying the solar curve we use the dodge tool set to highlights @100%. The reason we use the dodge tool instead of the erase tool is because the erase tool is too strong most of the time, and the dodge tool is just right. Of course there is the occasional need to use the erase, but it's the dodge that does most of the work.
Oh that’s interesting. I was doing something similar but just squeezing different tonal areas with levels so that I could see flaws more clearly. I’ve been using “viewing layers” for like 15 years. I’ll try this next time, it may make my workflow faster.
I spend so much time figured out what it was and how to use it a few years a go. and it's just a 5min tutorial on the best photoshop channel. wish i saw this video earlier
This is called a "Solar" curve in NY, short for solarization, or how it appears like the solarization effect in film based photography. There are many variations, and many other abstract transform functions like this for a number of other purposes as well.
I never knew this was the name for this! I've been doing this for years making crazy curve presets just for testing and finding anomalies, never realizing it was a real thing! Much prefer how you have your curves set up compared to mine since when I've made these testing curves in the past, I would just randomly move the points around like crazy until it revealed issues lol.
Dear Umesh, You really provide wonderful tips-I never miss your videos! It would be a great help if you could do a video specifically on help layers and which areas are most helpful while retouching. I remember you touched on this topic before, but an updated and more detailed video would be fantastic. Check layers are a must for every retoucher. Thanks again for your incredible work and for helping retouchers like me.
Very helpful! Much thanks for all the helpful videos!

I don't know about solar light, but solar something! ✨ Great video and great tip, and I definitely will be testing that action. That music in the end though!! First my thought was "where is the music coming from?" thinking it might have been another tab, but nope. The next thought was "why?!" cause it felt so random to go through a music with just a sweet voice talking, then suddenly music. And the final thought was just "it's brilliant!", cause it made me react, it made me get full attention again just as the CTA came in, it brought a smile to my face and lead to a comment. Well done! 😃
I can also use solar curve and create an almost hidden signature/message in my artwork. It will look hidden in plain sight and only visible when applying solar curve. This is useful when dispute with someone who use my artwork outright.
Hi unmesh I love this video specially curves videos the inbeatible vidoes of the curves curves is the heart of photoshop I,m really love this videos i,m learning from videos 😊😊❤❤🎉
Thanks for this video. I learnt something new today. May I know is it necessary to clean the background like this for commisioned work? Will clients be able to tell the differences?
Regarding the "Visualize Spots" preset in Camera Raw, I wonder if it would be helpful for Adobe to implement both a contrast and a color version of that checkbox to let us check both variables.
I appreciate the great material you've provided, but I'm struggling to understand the significance of the solar curve. Since there don't seem to be any apparent issues with the image when viewed with the naked eye, I'm curious about its necessity. Could you explain whether it is used for printing purposes?
I always love your video, but sometime I am thinking - if some spots we cannot see with our eyes but the solar curve or other, is it significant to edit it? (I am not saying this method is useless because I do this too, but just want to raise a discussion)
my regards. I work as a graphic designer and use a laptop, and I often encounter problems with my lack of control over the accuracy of colors when executing prints in the printing press. Is there a way to calibrate the colors of a laptop screen? Note that I have to work on the laptop. Thank you
You can buy screen calibrators, ill not name the companies as my post will get deleted. There’s no other 95% reliable way. Although Apple monitor hardware is much better these days, not like Windows boxes whose calibration is all over the place. All default settings on monitors put FAR TOO MUCH CONTRAST into the screen. You need to reduce that as a first step
The image is going to look different depending on the user’s screen and environment. Artifacts you might not see could still be visible for other people, and artifacts like this can become more apparent with compression and degradation.

If there was ever a Photoshop shonen anime, 'Solar Curve' would make for a great name of a popular attack.
You might as well copyright the idea 😎
I've been using this curve technique for retouching images for 2 years now and It's really a big help.👌
I spend so much time figured out what it was and how to use it a few years a go. and it's just a 5min tutorial on the best photoshop channel. wish i saw this video earlier
I also liked how you showed how a similar Curves layer configuration is used with converting images to Gold.
Extremely useful. Thanks!
Already using your check layers action for years now 😁
Whenever a piXimperfect video pops up I just know it's going to be a genius level edit, great job as always !!!!
As always, so helpful, im going to add curves to my workflow!

Could you combine this technique with AI tools like Retouch4Me's dust, clean backdrop and fabric filters?

The Photoshop guru. Thank you
Along with the tutorials I always enjoy your creative punch lines like this one "I hope I was able to throw some Solar light into it" :D
Thank you for being so generous!

cool thing, but if i cant see those spots without a visibility layer.... why would i need to remove them?
The image is going to look different depending on the user’s screen and environment. Artifacts you might not see could still be visible for other people, and artifacts like this can become more apparent with compression and degradation.
Because you surely can, after you post it, or print it, and it's going to eat some of us creators alive. 😅
so this is the ultimate way to detect differences in contrast?
Why use a tool to remove sometin the naked eye cant see...does it actually improve the outcome of the image when viewed normally?
Check pinned comment.
The naked eye can't see... On your screen. It can still show up in print.
