    A huge thank you to Ivy for having me on to talk about ceremonial magic and the grimoires! We could have talked for hours at great length and speed with how exciting the conversation was! For those wondering, here is a list of grimoires I mentioned in the video along with a few others I didn't:
    The Arbatel of Magic
    Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy
    The Fourth Book of Occult Philosophy
    The Book of Gold
    The Heptameron
    Elucidarium Necromantiae (precursor to the Heptameron)
    The Greater and Lesser Keys of Solomon (multiple editions
    of this exist with Mathers being the most popular. I prefer the Peterson edition)
    The Veritable Key of Solomon
    The Magical Treatise of Solomon: Hygromanteia
    The Grimoire of Arthur Gauntlet
    Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses
    The Book of Oberon
    Picatrix
    Cunning Man’s Grimoire or the Secret of Secrets
    The Sworn Book of Honorius (Liber Juratus)

    There have been a few comments about the speed of dialect in this video. Astra and I are both fast talkers and it isn't something we can really help, unfortunately! (I think I'm talking incredibly slow in my mind, trying to be as intentional as possible, but then I listen to myself back and I'm STILL talking fast. 😂 I'm trying, you guys. I promise. LOL!) So if this is an issue, I recommend going into the settings of this video and reducing the speed by .75. That seems to really help! There is also closed captioning as well. 😊

    • @karmas8864
      @karmas8864 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just repeat sections as I tend to space off, and it has nothing to do with anyone's rate of speech 😂 I've heard this same issue from other creators. This is why the settings option is there. I have many strong opinions on tailoring information to make everyone happy. I don't mind the podcast style a bit, and I really appreciate the section titles.
      I've learned quite a bit here! Yay to my next 🐰 🕳 😂

    Loving all the extra-long Ivy content you've been treating us to lately!!
    Recently, I've been learning about mysticism, folk magic, and ceremonial magic within the Catholic tradition and I am curious to know more about what you know/your opinions - particularly when it comes to the institution of the church vs the spiritual practices, and the church essentially burying any elements of mysticism from religious education. Apparently the Protestants used to think of the Catholics as witches and I'm starting to think they were right! 😂

    • @IvyTheOccultist
      @IvyTheOccultist  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are actually a lot of branches of Christianity that view Catholicism as witchcraft 😂 Southern Baptists definitely consider Catholics as witches! I can't speak too much on it though because I have never been a Christian of any kind. But yes, the church definitely tried their best to bury anything magic related for centuries!

Learned a lot from this ...and yes, I very much agree about how Catholic is in a way woven in with folk traditions which is how I grew up small village Catholic church in which my favorite services was the celebration of Mary (I will never forget the small maypole we had and how we were allowed to place flowers on the statue of Mary's feet 😊) thank you for a great discussion

    I absolutely absolutely loved this video. It really helped me with a better understanding of ceremonial magic. After learning more in-depth about it, definitely not for me. For one I am too lazy. Second, although the ritualism appeals to the old Christian in me, The new and liberated me also rebels against anything of that sort. Lastly, as a blind person, not sure how assessable the old grimoire would be for me. This video was, as usual, a joy to watch and learn from.

    You talked alittle bit about having a "spirit team" built up. In creating that did you reach out to form relationships with spirits specifically because you had something in mind to work with them on? Or did you reach out for just the purpose of establishing a connection and seeing if things vibed well? Im interested in doing work with dragons specifically but I dont have a specific purpose in mind. Im hesitant to do any sort of calling ceremony without like a "good" reason, I've just always been fascinated with their mythology and energy.

Lol!

      Grimoires are working books of magicians over the centuries in their simplest form. It is difficult to be exact because of the wide array of spirits often cited within them - including angels, demons, fairies, elementals, gods, and others! It is a bit of a steep price at the moment, but David Rankine just published his wonderful Grimoire Encyclopedia collection. The first volume, in particular, lists all the grimoires he is familiar with along with a small explanation of the things you've asked for.

  • @AbeNoSeirei
    @AbeNoSeirei 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don't think that ceremonial magic has to be Christian. You can rewrite the texts and gear them towards your own patron god or goddess. Many of the spirits, like the olymptic spirits and elementals, are not part of the Christian world view, also many old gods got demonized and you find their sigills in there. There are also some lodges that have their own way to do Ceremonial magic, and of course, every magician has their own way. For example, instead of the LBRP, there are other banishing rituals, like Hamarr (invoking Thor) or Wall von Kristall (sorry, that's German, idk if there is an english version).
    Edit: You can also make your own holy water, by consecrating it with the help of your patron god/goddess, an angel or another being you see as holy.

    • @Astra.logical
      @Astra.logical 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Abe, that's a completely valid worldview, though I would offer a few corrections! The Olympic Spirits in the Arbatel are of Christian origin (note that I am not talking about deities from the Roman pantheon) and if you read the Arbatel itself, it is very clearly written with the intent of its practitioner to be a believer. The elementals are nature spirits and certainly exist outside of Christianity, but it is important to note that the prayers of their invocation from Eliphas Levi include calling upon God as their created and Paracelsus himself instructs us to pray alongside the elementals and praise their (our) Creator with them for them to obtain favor and graces.
      You most certainly can adjust a ritual to incorporate your own deities, but I would pose a question of why? If they do not natural fit into that traditions framework would it not be better to take from their own mythology or tradition (even reconstructed) so that you perform a ritual appropriate to their station and title? As you mentioned, there are other banishing rituals - nearly every tradition has one of its own - that can be used instead of the LBRP (which is not strictly a banishing ritual to begin with, but I digress). Food for thought and thank you for your comment!
