I love my SMEG small appliances. It is exceptional quality and I could not be happier. P.S. These informational videos are very helpful and my "go-to" source. Thank you!
I noticed in the instructions for the coffee maker (drip coffee) that is says one level scoop generally equals 1 cup of coffee. The instructions also say that no more than 5 scoops should be placed in the filter holder. I would assume if I was making a full pot of coffee, I would need 10 level scoops, not 5. Just looking for feedback on this contradiction. Thank you!
Thank you for your comment and for making us aware of this contradiction. So in general 1 level scoop is recommended per 2 cups of coffee. In other words you’d need 5 scoops for 10 cups. However, this depends on your personal preference and the coffee beans. In addition, please note if the coffee grounds are very fine, it takes longer for the water to go through them which may lead to the coffee maker spilling. However, this should not be a concern with the vast majority of coffee grounds that are available for purchase.
Is there a factory RESET function/procedure ? As my coffee maker now does not KEEP WARM function for 60 mins but much less. And the de-scaler function only lasts a few minutes.. thank you
I accidentally tossed out the filter. What replacement options are there? I purchase a standard reusable filter, but the brewing process does not start. Could it be b/c of filter?
Thank you for the question. You can purchase a spare filter from after sales support. The drip coffee machine will still work fine without a filter. Just make sure that you have the proper filter holder because without it, the coffee maker would leak.
Any chance you know what size or style the filter holder is. Not the drip basket but the inside. We lost ours and can’t find a compatible one- please help advise!!!
I love my Smeg coffee maker! My only problem is that sometimes when I pour the coffee from the jug, hot coffee trickles from the lid and makes a huge mess. Is there a particular was you have to “set” the lid so it is securely sealed? I have tried turning the lid so the little grooves on the lid are not in the middle of the spout but that doesn’t even help.
Thank you for your comment and great to hear that you are enjoying your coffee maker. So in general it shouldn't leak from the lid unless you have the carafe on an extreme angle. So please make sure that you are are only pouring out coffee carefully. There is no one perfect way to place the lid on the carafe when it comes to direction. If you are still experiencing problems, you may want to contact the local service department in your country and inquiry about a new lid.
Thank you so much for all the detailed instructions. This video is amazing. I have 2 additional questions, 1- why would I select 1 aroma or 2 aroma, what difference does this make? and 2- if I live in an area with hard water but I use a filter, which setting would you recommend for water hardness?
Love the tutorial . Saved me from reading the manual . Question , can I just use 1/2 of the water ? I like the warm function , but I only need to make half jug
Thank you and we are glad to hear that it was helpful. We suggest to use the carafe or any other container that has a spout. A small (clean) watering can would work as well.
Great video. Love Smeg products. Finally got to see someone pour from the carafe. Not crazy about the design of the carafe- don’t like that you can’t pour all of the water out. Debating if I should get or not.
Any idea how to improve both the strength and temperature? I am 4 scoops of coffee and enough water for 5 cups, use the 4 cup setting but the coffee is very light and flavourless. tried with different coffee types. i want strong coffee. i shouldn't be able to see the bottom of the coffee cup!
In general, the more coffee you maker, the warmer it will come out and vice versa, the less coffee you make, the colder it will be. So please try making more coffee to increase the temperature. If you want to stay with the 4 cup setting, one idea would be to boil the water first in a kettle or a pot and then put it into your coffee maker after a couple of moments and then start the brewing process. For the flavor, most of it is because of the types of coffee grounds that are used. However, you can increase the flavor by pressing on the bean button so that two beans appear on the display. This is explained in the video as well. The effect of it is that less water is dispensed per time unit so the water goes through the coffee grounds at a slower rate and will pick up more flavor. We hope that this helps.
Thank you for your question. The brewing process itself will not stop but it will stop dispensing coffee into the carafe. So don't wait too long to put the carafe back, otherwise coffee will flow out at the top.
Thank you for your question. The filter itself is made out of fine metal and the filter holder is made out of plastic. You can use a paper filter instead of the provided filter.
Thank you for your question. Yes, please set the water hardness so the machine is aware. The descaling reminder will go off after a certain time based on your water hardness setting.
Love my Smeg coffee maker! But my coffee maker has a flashing red circle underneath the clock for a few days now. I lost the manual so I’m unable to see what this means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
We are glad to hear that you like your Smeg drip coffee maker. The red dot means that you have to descale the appliance. Here is a video: th-cam.com/video/pNRytiH1Rrk/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for your question. Yes that works. Please make sure to have the 4 cups function selected as it will go back to the standard settings once it has finished the 4 cups cycle.
Hi. Could you please help with an issues? The KEEP WARM function is activated right after i turn on the machine and i can't deactivate it, even if i turn off the machine
I REALLY want this machine but I hesitate based on the existing reviews. I understand Smeg released a second edition that improved the first edition's downfalls. I am still a bit hesitant regardless but I really want this coffee maker.
Thank you for your question. The main differences between the DCF01 and the DCF02 are that you can open the lid to a 90 degree angle, you can turn off the sound, and the keep warm function stays on for 1 hour instead of 20 minutes. We hope that this helps.
Thank you for your question. Depending on your version of coffee maker, the keep warm function will keep the coffee warm for either 20 minutes (DCF01) or 1 hour (DCF02) after the brewing cycle is finished. It is not possible to turn on the the keep warm function separately.
Thank you for your question. That means that you will have to descale the drip coffee maker. We have made a separate video for the descaling process which explains it step by step.
We just bought one, followed these instructions but no coffee comes out the dripper, it just stayed in the filter holder, do we need to do anything with the Valve?
Thank you for your comment and we are sorry about the issues. Please contact the customer service in Australia as we are assuming that you are from Australia given your username. Thank you.
Thanks for making this video! Very helpful. I have a few questions after receiving the machine recently: - I was wondering, does the machine keep brewing until all the water in the tank has ran out? - And what if you select the 4 cups setting but there is more than 4 cups of water in the tank? Will the machine stop by itself? - Do you need to press the ON button after pressing the 4 cup setting button? - Some coffee spilled on the hot plate and burnt the coffee which is now a stain, any tips on how to remove this? - Can the brew be kept and reheated at a later stage? For example, can I make a 10cup brew in the morning, and reheat half for the afternoon? If so how do I do this? Thanks I’m advance for your help 🙏🏼
Thank you for all your questions. Here are the answers to your questions: - I was wondering, does the machine keep brewing until all the water in the tank has ran out? Yes in regular mode the Coffee maker will run until it is completely out of water. Once the tank is empty it switches to keep warm mode, which last for 60 minutes on the DCF02, and 30 minutes on the DCF01. - And what if you select the 4 cups setting but there is more than 4 cups of water in the tank? Will the machine stop by itself? When you select 4 cup mode you need to ensure that you only put 4 cups of water in the tank. If more water is in the tank, it will run until approx 6 cups have been dispensed before it will shut off. The 4 cup function is available so if the customer is making 4 cups then the keep warm mode will not be activated after the water has run through. - Do you need to press the ON button after pressing the 4 cup setting button? Yes the ON button must be pressed as well as the 4 cup button. - Some coffee spilled on the hot plate and burnt the coffee which is now a stain, any tips on how to remove this? To clean any stains on the hot plate a damp cloth with some dawn dish soap should remove mild stains. Only do this when the hotplate is cool, and follow up with just a damp cloth to remove any remaining soap before using the coffee maker. Tougher stains may be removed with something mildly abrasive such as a Mr clean pad or a light steal wool with a little water. Clean in circular motion following the grain of the stainless on the hot plate to avoid scratching. Again, only clean when the hotplate is cool and follow up with a damp cloth. - Can the brew be kept and reheated at a later stage? For example, can I make a 10cup brew in the morning, and reheat half for the afternoon? If so how do I do this? Once the keep warm stage has ended and the coffee in the pot has cooled a new batch must be made. There is no reheat function for the coffee maker. We hope this helps.
Hi! I love my Smeg coffee maker! Just a question, is there an automative coffee feature? Eg. I set it at 7 and it makes the coffee automatically at that time? Thank you!
You can take the carafe out during the brewing process. A few drops will still come out and end up on the hot plate. However the brewing process will continue so if you’d wait to long to put the carafe back, water/coffee would flow out at the top depending on how much water is still in the water tank of the coffee maker. We hope that this helps.
I just bought my Smeg Drip coffee machine last month here in Dubai, UAE Unfortunately the button UP and CHOOSE are not responding. Can you please help??

Hi did figure this out? Mine is doing the same thing 😞 when I turn it on it beeps then the thermometer icon flashes and it beeps twice and no coffee is brewed
Thank you for your question. Assuming you are making a full carafe of coffee (10 cups), the temperature of the coffee in the carafe will be at 83 degrees Celsius / 181 degrees Fahrenheit at the end of the brewing cycle. This is after approx. 9 minutes.
@@Shaunomangaming Sorry about the late reply. On the 4 cup setting, the coffee temperature in the carafe reaches about 70 degrees celsius or about 155 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hi Riek, thank you for your question. Unfortunately we are not sure what you mean. How to set the time is explained in the first couple of minutes of the video. If this is not what you were asking, please comment below with further details. Thank you.
Thank you for your question. We looked at this is issue and we hope that we have an answer for you. The bean symbol itself doesn't actually flash but it the light from the brewing button which flashes and this makes it seem as if the bean symbol flashes. So nothing to worry about. Enjoy your weekend!
Hi, I noticed something recently, the 4 cup function change to off by itself when the brew is finished when my aroma setting is on strong, the aroma setting stays every time but the 4 cups don't, however when I have the delicate aroma and the 4 cups active after brewing it stays activated for the next brews. Is this normal or my machine should remember and leave active for future brews both of the functions?.
Thank you for the question. There is a difference between the DCF01 and the DCF02 DCF01: 4cup setting turns off after brewing and the aroma setting resets itself DCF02: 4cup setting turns off after brewing but the aroma setting stays on the selected setting
Hi Donna. Thank you for your message. That is completely normal and nothing to worry about. It indicates the seconds and shows that the time is properly set.
@@MyApplianceGuide Thank you for your answer. One more thing I would love the coffee to be a bit hotter. Is there anyway to have the coffee come out hotter? Are there settings? Thanks
Thank you for your question. We are not sure what you mean exactly. Does the keep warm function turn on automatically spontaneously without you selecting it? If so, please reach out to the service company in your country.
@@MyApplianceGuide it’s all good now!!! Smeg Canada replaced a brand new one for me just in couple days!!! It’s fantastic and I love smeg. Looking forward to get more appliances from smeg!!!!
I get inconsistent results with the actual coffee amount output. I’ll put it 8 cups of water/8 scoops of coffee, and get 6 cups of brewed coffee. Am I approaching this wrong or something?
No, you are not approaching it wrong. Please note that some water will evaporate in the brewing process and the coffee grounds will also absorb some moisture.
Thank you for your question. The main differences are that you can open the lid to a 90 degree angle, you can turn off the sound, and the keep warm function stays on for 1 hour instead of 20 minutes. We hope that this helps.
Depends on how much coffee you want to brew. It will start heating up the water immediately so it doesn’t take long for the first delicious coffee to be ready in the carafe.
Makes great coffee, no doubt about it, but the angle to put water in is stupid with the design/lip of the carafe. One should really be able to empty it all.
Thank you for your comment and we are sorry about any inconveniences caused. The DCF02 version offers a 90 degree opening angle for the lid which makes it easier to pour water into the tank.
Thank you for showing what all the buttons do!! No one else does! 🤷🏼♀️😆

Thank you for all your questions. Here are the answers to your questions:
- I was wondering, does the machine keep brewing until all the water in the tank has ran out?

Hi Riek, thank you for your question. Unfortunately we are not sure what you mean. How to set the time is explained in the first couple of minutes of the video. If this is not what you were asking, please comment below with further details. Thank you.
Can I disable the beep on my DCF01 coffee maker?
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately you are not able to do so on the DCF01. This is only an option for the DCF02.
Hi what if I only want to make 2 to 4 cups? Do I pour 2 to 4 cups water into the water tank?
In general yes. However, we recommend to at least make 4 cups and to use the 4 cups setting. This is explained in the video.
How do you change the time when it’s plugged in already? From a non first time state is there a button or u have to unplug and wait to start
Thank you for your question. How to change the time when the unit is plugged in is explained in this video at 1 min 20 sec
A question: on the display the lower coffee bean of the icon doesn’t appear selected but flash. What does it mean?
There is a difference between the DCF01 and the DCF02
DCF01: 4cup setting turns off after brewing and the aroma setting resets itself
DCF02: 4cup setting turns off after brewing but the aroma setting stays on the selected setting
@@MyApplianceGuide Great I have the DCF02 so now know that is normal, thanks.
You are very welcome. We are glad we could help.
I've set the time on the clock and pushed OK but the middle : button keeps flashing. Should it be flashing? I can't get it to stop.
Hi Donna. Thank you for your message. That is completely normal and nothing to worry about. It indicates the seconds and shows that the time is properly set.
@@MyApplianceGuide Bit should those : marks separating the hour and minutes ever stop flashing?
@@donnamcmillan6950 No, they do not. As mentioned, they indicate that a time is set and that the clock is "ticking".
@@MyApplianceGuide Thank you for your answer. One more thing I would love the coffee to be a bit hotter. Is there anyway to have the coffee come out hotter? Are there settings? Thanks
@@donnamcmillan6950 Unfortunately not. We are very sorry about this.
Yeah the reviews suck for their coffee maker. How hard is it to create a hot water product correctly, Smeg?
We have received very positive reviews for our updated model: the DCF02 which was launched several months ago.
What if the keep warm button turn on automatically
Thank you for your question. We are not sure what you mean exactly. Does the keep warm function turn on automatically spontaneously without you selecting it? If so, please reach out to the service company in your country.
@@MyApplianceGuide it’s all good now!!! Smeg Canada replaced a brand new one for me just in couple days!!! It’s fantastic and I love smeg. Looking forward to get more appliances from smeg!!!!
We are glad to hear that you were looked after. Enjoy your SMEG appliances.
6:25 is when you actually begin making coffee
Great video I loved it !!!
Thank you for this video as I accidentally tossed the manual out!
We are glad to hear that it was of use to you. Enjoy your coffee maker!
Very helpful, thank you so much.
can this make just 1 cup of coffee?
Thank you for your question. Minimum is four cups. Our espresso coffee maker is great for making smaller cups of coffee.
Whats new With the 02 version?
Thank you for your question. The main differences are that you can open the lid to a 90 degree angle, you can turn off the sound, and the keep warm function stays on for 1 hour instead of 20 minutes.
We hope that this helps.
Smeg USA/Canada How fast Will it Brew? Thanks
Depends on how much coffee you want to brew. It will start heating up the water immediately so it doesn’t take long for the first delicious coffee to be ready in the carafe.
Excellent video. Nice and clear. Very appreciated
I wish you made this coffee maker in the pink. Then it would match my kettle!
Amazing. Stopped heating water after few months of use
We are sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact the local service agent. You can find the information here: www.smegusa.com/after-sales/

HOW TO MAKE COFFEE 7:54
Makes great coffee, no doubt about it, but the angle to put water in is stupid with the design/lip of the carafe. One should really be able to empty it all.
Thank you for your comment and we are sorry about any inconveniences caused. The DCF02 version offers a 90 degree opening angle for the lid which makes it easier to pour water into the tank.
Very clear instructions.
Glad it was helpful! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you for this it really helped me

Hey how do I change the water temperature? The coffee is just way too cold....
How much coffee are you brewing? You need to make at least 4 cups on the 4 cup setting.
@@MyApplianceGuide I'm brewing 2 cups....I'll try 4 cups then...thank you
