    You neglected to state how hot the coffee comes out, and how good the coffee tastes. This is important to me. Also, you don't need to use the glass carafe to pour the water into the machine. You can use a large measuring cup.

    I purchased my SMEG coffee maker (PINK!) after watching this review and I LOVE IT. There are issues. It doesn't stay hot for very long, but it works for me and the microwave is right there, so... Also, pouring in the top can be an issue, but not really. I just fill the carafe with more water than I need and it pours in just fine. Here's the thing, though. It gives me a little shot of joy every time I make my coffee, which makes it worth the money to me.

    I use the half pot brew feature because I drink less than 4 cups every day. So one tank fill will get me 2 days worth of brews.

    The quality of the machine actually has a significant role in making a good cup of coffee: the machine has to regulate a specific temperature to ensure even extraction that does not produce a bitter or weak brew, and this brewing water also has to spend a specific amount of time on the ground beans. America's Test Kitchen has an excellent video on coffee machines!

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll check it out!

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true. Video says the quality of water and beans has more play into making a good cup of coffee. Obviously those are contributing factors. However like you say, temperature and the time the water is on beans is very important. I have heard that the temperature does not get hot enough on this maker. There was no mention of this on the video. Because of that alone, its a hard pass. Especially at this price point. Years ago Braun made a cheap maker called the aromaster. They still make it in Europe. That used to make a crazy good cup for the price point. And every single maker I've had since then pales in comparison. To the point that I just use K cups now. But I"m tired of using those and the environmental waste is bad. I like the look of this SMEG but its not the machine for those that care about making the best tasting cup of coffee. So far I've found two that seem to fit the bill. The Moccamaster (made in the Netherlands) and the Breville. Both SCAA certified and will run over 300 USD. Basically, if the taste of coffee is important you MUST buy something that is SCAA certified.

  • @noureddineelaroussi7680
    @noureddineelaroussi7680 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Coffee is never fresh if you keep it in the machine overnight, it loses all its fragrance due to the lack of a tight seal, I usually buy only coffee beans and I use the Breville smart grinder only when I'm about to make my coffee, be it cappuccino, drip, or espresso!

    On future versions of this machine, they need to add a small mesh filter to the water hole in the water compartment. As when cleaning, a few years ago some some piece of plastic cloth found its way into the water level indicator and it been impossible to dislodge. Thank you.

    What added value does the 4 cup function have when I press it? I mean, if I want to make 2, 3, 4 or 5 cups, I pour water for the corresponding number of cups and the coffee spoons accordingly for the number of cups. So what makes this button so special?

    I don't know what happened by looking them up on Ebay today, I didn't find one. It looks rather like SMEG are either out of business, or they've sold out. Something is definitely strange.

    I have had one now for less than 3 years. I am already on my second carafe ($50) the glass didn't break, the handle broke. The mesh filter that came with it is getting small tears on the bottom. I may have to start using paper filters. For half the price my old stainless Cuisinart did a much better job. Coffee quality has also has to do with the water temp and how fast it goes through and is dispersed over your grounds. My wife loves this because of the look but if I really want retro I will go with a glass stove top percolator I have from the 60's. It smell really great while it's brewing.

    Is a "cup" a micro Italian espresso cup or a regular mug type size (for us a normal cup = about 2 Italian cups)?

      That's still a bad choice if you want the best tasting coffee. Unless its the Cuisinart - CPO-850P1. That's the only model that gets to correct temperature of 195-205 degrees temp and is SCAA certified. Maker makes a huge difference. I've got a Cuisinart and paid 100 dollars. Big waste of money. Now I have to pay 200-300 and get a SCAA certified maker. Yeah it does make a big difference.

I got one response from Smeg, sent them what they asked for, and they have not responded again. That was three weeks ago. Their products look very nice, but I'm pretty sure they are not worth it, especially considering how terrible their support is.

      I would put function below 7 as it fails to get between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the correct temp for approved SCAA coffee makers. Temperature and time spend on beans is a HUGE factor for making the best cup. This SMEG is all about form and nothing else. A complete total waste of money unless you just want it as a prop in the background for a cooking show. Channel says good water and beans are the main sources for good coffee. When I was younger I used to believe in this myth. Partially true but the maker has more play in making a good cup and can make a world of difference.

    I 've had my Smeg coffeemaker for about a month and, while I like the way it looks, I'm not crazy about the machine. It DOES take up too much space, you have to use another with a proper drip spout to pour the water, and the l hour warming mechanism is not enough. I do not recommend this machine, given the really high price point.
