    Hi there, I bought the machine several days ago and for initially few times it did work perfectly. I only have a question regarding the nozzle - could the frothing nozzle be removed before frothing? I mean could we just use the plastic nozzle to froth milk directly? In some of TH-cam videos I saw people do it. But when I try, sometimes the plastic nozzle will be ejected!So just want to know the answer, thanks.

    hi - I have the exact same red machine. Love it. It's working find, although lately the steamer button has been flashing orange/red and not always white.I read that this means the steamer needs decalcifying. I did that by filling the water container with a 50/50 mix of water and 5% household vinegar. I ran it through the espresso machine and then the steamer 5 times. It's still flashing red. Any tips/ideas?

      You're baskets are pressurised versions which help you make coffee with crema if your technique of tamping etc isn't great. It basically forces the extracted coffee through a tiny hole instead of relying on the right grind, tamp and fresh coffee beans with non-pressurised baskets.

    I have the same thing happening as Welma above. After making the first cup the lights seem to flash for a long time so I can’t make the 2nd cup immediately. I’ve been switching the on/off button too but is that the way to do it?

    • @wallst1143
      @wallst1143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The reason for the light flashing for a long time is that the steam temp is too hot to brew another cup, so it need to cool back to espresso temp. The way to cool it faster is by opening the steam tap while the lights are flashing. That sends cool water though the heating block. Once its cool enough, it would automatically stop pumping water through the steam wand.

      If you don’t put the wand in deep enough the milk becomes to bubbly, best way I found is put the wand in as deep as you can slightly tilt the jug and slowly swirl the jug in circular motion, the milk should double in size in the jug so you need to use a jug big enough so you can start with it half full to get the right amount of milk per mug

Do this until the milk jug is too hot to touch if you hold your finger in it for about 3 seconds.

      Grind is either too fine, too, much coffee, or tamped too hard. I'm a manager at a local roastery and coffee shop. When pulling your shots, on average, they should pull for 30 seconds, should continuously pull for 30ish seconds with no bubbles or broken stream, shouod be a smooth stream until the end where it should drip. • @smegaustralia
      @smegaustralia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Christopher, thanks for reaching out.
      For best results:
      Buy a bag of Lavazza Oro ground coffee from the supermarket.
      Make sure you use the 2 cup basket for the best flavour.
      The Barista Tip is to put the portafilter into the machine first - without coffee - and press the one cup button. Let the water run through. This will warm up the Portafilter for a warmer and better tasting coffee and help clean away any residual coffee oils.
      Then dry the Portafilter with a dry cloth
      Now fill it with 2 level scoops of Coffee - make sure they are levelled scoops and not overflowing.
      Tamp the coffee down leaning your body weight onto the tamper to make sure you compact the coffee properly.
      Extract using the 2 cup button.

      Adjust the grinding fineness: you are probably grinding it too fine! Also the longer the brewing, the more bitter part is extracted.

      Hi Catherine, you are best off making all the coffee first then frothing the milk for all the cups together

    Hi I am really struggling to find the right grind for it. I don’t have a grinder and went to Starbucks to grind my beans twice, both times it was too fine for this coffee machine

      Same! I was asking for “espresso grind”, always too fine. I finally tried for a less fine, medium coarse and is a lot better. But still no crema.

      Have you had any luck? I also can't get the water to come our smooth with my coffee. It just drips extremely slowly

      Hi Anna, Thanks for your question.
      Commercial coffee machines need a much finer grind size. So you will need to ask them to grind the coffee more coarse than they would for their store. Because every grinder is different, we can’t recommend an accurate grind size with certainty. Best wishes, Smeg Australia

      Try keeping the grind fine but only fill the filter half way compressed. We have the grinder and filled to the top (without tamper) = half way with tamper which works perfectly. I adjusted it to 24ish seconds which gives me 60mls.
      I once tried topping up more coffee once tampered and the water didn't flow at all

      @@yemhomey4237 hi there, just started trying my machine and Was thinking, we control the machine to stop based on weighting the output (with a scale) or we control the grind size? Any advise

      Are you making a milk based drink? If yes your milk probably isn’t hot enough.

    Isn’t the life of an espresso shot 10 seconds? Meaning you need to get it into milk before those 10 seconds or it dies bitter... I guess if you have to pour the shot before you can steam your milk maybe. Put a tad of milk in the cup before pouring the shot?
