The guy playing guitar is acting like a bugler giving orders in field. With no radios and loud engines they needed a way to pass orders to the group. It’s amazing the details that went into everything on this movie. Yet again I’m so glad to watch this with you.

“Larry and Barry” are very enlarged lymph nodes, they usually mean cancer that’s metastasized from somewhere else (often lung cancer) so it’s fairly late stage and probably not likely to live much longer. That would also be a reason he needed the blood transfusions for anemia that can come with some cancers.

If you look at the scene closely at 6:05. There is a little girl standing on the platform being brought up. It doesn't matter in the long run if Furiosa was successful in running away with Immortan Joe's wives. He would have just found more wives among the crowd. Taking control of the Citadel is the only way they could affect any real change and save the people still under Joe's control.

    • @NerdishReact

Right!! It's such a good thing that they came back and that they were able to take the Citadel.

When it comes to Nux's sacrifice, there's a lot of people who believe Nux actually made it to Valhalla with his sacrifice. Nux repeatedly tries to get himself killed to get to "Valhalla", which is wanting glory in death for himself. He's successful in his fourth attempt because he's saving what he loves (which is Capable, the redheaded wife who befriended him, as well as the others who have become his friends). In ancient Nordic tradition, dying in a Heroic Sacrifice makes you one of the Worthy Dead to go to Valhalla.

    • @NerdishReact

Yes, we actually believe he must be one of the few to actually get there in the end, because his death had a real selfless and honorable purpose.

Furiosa is a great sequel/prequel to this. Not as much action, and maybe not quite as good, but still better than 99% of what's out there. Max is usually in the movies, but is kinda just the character through which we explore the world. He travels the wastelands, and stories about him can be considered legends.
The movie definitely had an intentional feminist slant. The director brought in Eve Ensler (V__ Monologues) to talk to the wives about slavery, and help them create personal backstories for their characters (even if it's never told to the audience).

    • @NerdishReact
      @NerdishReact  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

That's so amazing! We didn't know that about the backstory of each character, it must be better for them to act if they have more context to their characters than just a breeder slave.

I enjoyed your reactions and commentary. You weren't that far off in some of your predictions. I recently saw Furiosa and I thought it was fantastic for the most part. The story structure is very different from Fury Road which I think was a wise choice. The Mad Max series is the only movie franchise that still genuinely excites me. Everything else has been ran into the ground in my opinion.

Fantastic reaction, I love every moment of watching you two sisters watching this great film. I really do hope eventually you two can see the prior Mad Max films in the series. You can see how Max came to be, how he transitioned to how he is now.
Also, I would like to say I love movies with strong female protagonist in them. I love action movies where they female main character can kick ass and take names. If you've never seen them Terminator 1 and Terminator 2 has a strong female protagonist in it with Linda Hamilton in them. Also Aliens 1, 2, and 3 has such a great female protagonist lead with Sigourney Weaver leading the charge in those flicks.
Once again, awesome reactions from you two and I hope to see more in the future.

The first Mad Max film (1979) was the first of the so called Aussieploitation films. George Miller was a medical doctor working in a trauma center at an Australian hospital. After years of witnessing the affects of many horrifying auto accidents, he and his friends decided to make a movie about cars and car crashes. They filmed it guerrilla style, with barely a budget and no help from any studios. That film was Mad Max.
Max is a cop working at the fringes of law and order after society has begun to break down. The bombs have not yet fallen, but things are looking bleak indeed. The actor who plays the villain in Fury Road also plays the villain in the first film. Mel Gibson plays Max. It was his first starring role.
The sequel, Mad Max: The Road Warrior is George Miller with a budget and the backing of a studio. Max returns, but now he's a loner with no companions save but for a dog. The bombs have fallen and the struggle to survive in the Wasteland is bitter.
The third film, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome is George Miller after he got tired of Max. It's a dreadful film that even George now distances himself from.
The fourth film, Mad Max: Fury Road is George returning to full form. Max is back and now he must help a band of slaves escape the clutches of a tyrannical warlord if he is to survive.

@@cthulhuwu_ No doubt. Tim Cain, the creator of Fallout, said he was inspired by the Road Warrior. In the movie Max is known as the Lone Wanderer. He travels with a dog. He's armed with a sawed off shotgun and no shotgun shells. He is often sidetracked and forced to help people when he doesn't want to get involved. In the games players are even given his trademark leather shoulder pad armor. And in FO3 there's an NPC you can meet named Max who is armed with a sawed off and wears the first movie Max's sunglasses.

All the Mad Max movies except for Furiosa are not really connected to each other. Its almost like an anthology of post apocalyptic folk tales.. and the first one isnt even really post apocalyptic. But defihley see the first 3 films.. just keep in mind theyre all very different.. to each other and to Fury Road / Furiosa

Actually the first one is it's just that who can really know but the signs were there. Perhaps some agree with you because the signs are also with us now and no one wants to believe that dystopia is just around the corner.........Rome wasn't built in a day and neither did it die in a day. It took over a couple of centuries and I think many living in the middle of that phase thought it had already happened while many others thought Rome would last forever but eventually there was no doubt about its end as there was no doubt about it in "The Road Warrior"

I saw this three times in the first week. The first time dubbed in Spanish, the second time in English (my first language) and the third time in Spanish again.
It’s a simple story, but the story telling is so visual that you don’t need dialogue to tell you everything that is happening.
The movie doesn’t waste time explaining the world. It shows you. It shows you the raiding party capturing max and how he is to be used. It shows the poor people struggling to survive, it shows others exploited by the tyrant, and it shows the warriors that maintain the tyrants power.
The movie doesn’t bother explaining who the tyrant is or how he got power. It doesn’t explain the religion of the war boys. (We get a little dialogue about the gates of Valhalla, witnessing and being witnessed, etc. But even that happens in a visual context.
One of my favorite visuals is the night scene with people walking on stilts with the crows flying around. There’s no explanation (until later), but it says so much about humans adapting to an environment, even a poisonous environment.
There’s another cool thing about this movie that has nothing to do with the movie itself. When it came out, the man boys and incels were very angry that a woman was the center stage protagonist and that the film had a humanist message. They were coming unglued by the fact that the real hero was Furiosa and that Max was a supporting character. It’s fun to see pendejos losing their minds like that (like some are now doing because of fallout).
I adore Charlize Theron. If you do too, I suggest Atómica (or Atomic Blonde in English). It’s a spy movie with a chingo of action. Fights, shooting, clever spy stuff, and escapes. I think it’s a little more grounded in reality than James Bond. The music is awesome because it’s set in the late 80s.
I know action isn’t your favorite, but consider giving Atómica a try. It’s really fucking marvelous.

    • @NerdishReact
      @NerdishReact  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

You're right! We didn't analyzed it that way but it's true that the world building is done in such a visual way that there's no need for extensive explanations. A real masterpiece! We can't wait to see what Furiosa brings to the table next.

They couldn't have a secondary steering wheel to prevent from vehicles getting stolen in the crazy world where anything goes..
Director Miller heavily based these allegories Mad Max's films from the influence of mythological writer Joseph Campbell, meaning that every car and everything and everyone had a backstory in this movie. For example, Max's car is known to be the last of the V8 engine .
A Black Thumb is a mechanic. The Dr delivering the babies was the Organic Mechanic. The old woman tattooed word burgers of the history of women all over her body due to books being burned during wars

It is interesting btw that in all 3 of the original films Max is more of a protagonist in the story (that is why his name is in the title). But in this last appearance his character plays a more complementary role than in any of the previous films (although a big part of the story in the second and third films is him helping other characters and taking part in their story as well). He is still central to the story and his actions heavily impact the outcome, but the character of Furiosa, which appears in this film for the first time, has the same or more protagonism. Which was a surprise for most people.
The first time I watched it I thought it was very interesting the way they did it, because I went to the theatre expecting a Mad Max movie, and since it was the same director I thought (and hoped) that the biggest difference with respect to the original ones (apart from the effects) would be that Max is now played by a different actor. And what I watched was a film that was basically a 2 hour action scene with brief pauses for dialogue, and in which Max isn't even the driving force of the story. And, even though I like the original trilogy, I was surprised but not dissapointed. They managed to expand the universe of Mad Max and meaningfully add to it in a way that totally fits the essence of the original trilogy.
This movie became very popular also for the quality of the action scenes. In particular because of the amount of practical effects they used, as well as all the stunts they performed for the film (they even hired some people form Cirque du Soleil).

I saw Furiosa last week. Everyone did a good job, and I love seeing ATV, but Chris Hemsworth absolutely stole the film for me. He was outstanding as the villain. I hope he gets more opportunities in the future to play villains.
My thoughts of the film are I preferred Fury Road more for its breakneck pace and wild iconography. Oh what a film, what a lovely film. The first two films, Mad Max and Road Warrior have that same iconic look and feel. There's no mistaking a Mad Max film for any other. Furiosa just felt like there was something missing.
