Hey ToMo, I was at Berklee with you:) I remember you from back then I graduated 90. I was a performance Major. I bet you remember Mark French and many others. So cool that you became a teacher there! It is a refreshing reminder about ear training listening to your video. Thank you for posting. I always liked the way you played and I’m grateful to still be able to keep in touch. Keep on rocking!
You're such a cool teacher laughing at yourself. Not laughing at yourself but with yourself! Yes! Just the pitch and obviously note/chord etc. Thank you Tomo!
wow, thanks. this video has giving me a complete new subject to focus on. i ran out of topics, i thought, but then you give me a direction. that's an inspirational and motivating video. who thinks of solmisation and eartraining like this when setting up a learning routine.
Tomo, thank you so much for this great lesson. I have had to accept that what is holding me back on in my progress is not developing my ear. The rhythm lesson was also great, super tricky. You even sound musical slapping your knees.
Tomo, new subscriber here. Without a doubt you are the coolest guy on the planet! Your intro videos are extraordinarily informative and so much fun to watch.. Gonna check out "Guitar Wisdom"! Thanks for doing what you do. BTW I bet you're a world class bongo player!
As a musician I I've ran into people that had different methods of ear training. One person could give the name of the note on the piano without a key reference while another needed needed a key reference to give you the distance in numbers and didn't need it in A440. I learned through association. Example: 5-3mj-1-3-5-1 As the beginning of the Star spangled banner and the basics of a maj. Cord. But had to use numbers because I couldn't associate letters with the distance. I need to hear the distance off the key note.
Always love the knowledge you impart to us, sensei!!! 🙏 ☺️ I wish I didn’t have to work so I could just sit all day and absorb all the wealth of knowledge you share with us!! We’re so lucky to have you!!! 🤘😉👍
I have the Guitar Wisdom subscription, but I added this to my TH-cam playlist. I especially like the rhythm ear training. It is a weak area for me. More practice! Thanks for posting
I like that right after you say push to the next level it was right back to some funk chords!. Those heavy gauge strings sound great on that guitar. I found that I only make progress on ear training exercises if I do them daily for short periods (5-15 minutes). Doing it a few times per day helped a bit too but longer sessions were not that helpful.

Thank you Tomo. This is actually 2 very dense lessons wrapped up in one. The ear training lesson is super, thank you. This is something that I need to work on, but your explanation and method makes perfect sense. The auditory rhythm training is, for me, more challenging to track. I followed your process, but this section demands for me to break the lesson down into smaller parts… and it feels a bit rushed. For me it would me more helpful to vocalize each rhythmic exercise by counting out the phrases. Is there a lesson of yours that focuses just on the rhythmic training you introduce in this ear training lesson. Thank you, much respect🌹
@@TomoFujitaMusic oh I know Tomo I really ought to join the monthly classes. I’m on a long journey back to wellness and my budget isn’t fluid yet, but I am super thankful for your free lessons right now. Thank you for being so generous and apparently joyful and kind.
That's great Mr. Fujita.... on the rhythm stuff do you always keep counting in your head or do you just get into that groove? Great lesson .... thank you!!!
How about this? You are asking this question (When practicing? or when performing) Two different minds. When practicing, do everything you could included counting... when performing no need to do that because you need to dance!

😄Mr. Tomo It's funny you demonstrated it exactly like I do whenever I'm listening to music, first thing I catch onto is the Rhythm/beats. I didn't really know about the number of counts or any theory behind creating music but my hands and legs won't stay still unless I'm embarrassed to do it publicly 😅😂
Lol, I'm not the only one who skips important steps, lol. Good idea while im learning to sight read even when i just memorizing I'll sing it outloud too. My voice is like nails on a chalk board. I find when I'm working out a song in my head singing the song helps me find the chords but it's so hard to get above a whisper.
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thanks for sharing, I was asking about the pick's material... nylon,, delrin, etc. The sound you get in this video when strumming sounds so brite and lite, unusual with heavy strings.
Thx, i started this topic for my practice now. But may i ask why you did "Do-Mi-So" for the G-major chord as well as for the C-major chord? Why was it not like So-Ti-Re, since we were in key of C before? Can you help me with my understanding here in short words, that exclude "visit my guitar wisdom" ;-) ? Thx, in advance.
