I’ve just bought one, but I’m still keeping my 1040. Great devices both of them. If I had known that the 1040 solar has twice the memory of the base edition I would have bought the solar and probably not bothered with the 1050.
I wish we could only pay for the features we use. I have the 840 and I have most of the options turned off. You can do this with cars and lots of other things, why not with the cycling computers. My cycling days will probably be over by the time Garmin put a quality screen on one of the smaller lower models.
I’ve been torn between a discounted 1040 and the 1050. Definitely don’t ’need’ the 1050. But the color sure will look great between the aero bars. As you said, will plan on using it for at least 3 seasons. Just need to ride long and ride often to justify the expense.
Thanks for the review mate but this is more of an add tbh just like the most Garmin reviews out there. The main question is how it fits on the front out mount as there are reports that the fit can be tricky due to its size. Also, how does it track the gradient? I own Edge Explore and it really struggles with ClimbPro, sometimes it shows negative gradient on a purple or red slope lol, also it's always very late in tracking it, something I'm starting to realise Wahoo does a much better job at. Also, how does it deal with navigation when you go off route? My Garmin sometimes gets confused and wants you to do a U turn even after you return to the course. So I think it would be nice if these TH-cam reviews were a bit more hands on experience in the field, rather than just reading the specs out.

If you have any of the 40s. Was told not too. For me I had the 810 so I am between the 1050 and 1040 solar.
1040 and 840 has poor screen resolution and lot of glare.

Great video man. One question if I use my fenix can it be enough .. do I need to buy more gadgets to pair with the 1050?
power meter
Yes you can definitely just use your fenix … but enough for what?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Do you need a phone to use the 1050?
No not at all, but can be useful for uploading rides to strava etc. it’s got WiFi though
How long does it take to recharge?
I’ve never had mine fully flat but from 50-60% about 2 hours. Basically it’s a smart phone that doesn’t make calls ;-)
Yeh it’s really quick tbh as. It’s usbc and I use a high wattage charging block 👀
