I was thinking you had a technique with them scissors at first 😂😂
Roughnecks are fab! We have one similar, gets the pallets split in no time.
Ours has a split in the middle to help gets the left over nails out too. You can put a brick under neath it too to help with the angle
    Nice video Mark 💪🏽

We used those at work to break pallets up, Mark. The guys found they worked best on "standard" pallets rather than custom ones like the one you're tackling. As you sort of found out with the long stringers at the end 🙂

Yeah, deffo think you're right on the pallet front Steve.
Short of time today with it being the school hols and that was the only pallet I had in the garden 😂😂😂
Will hopefully grab a couple of the more normal style ones at the weekend and give it a try with them 👍🌱👍

@@marksallotmentplot You won't believe this (or maybe you will) but the H&S department stopped us from using them as the "unpredictable force required and back jarring" was avoidable by not using one. You could not make this up!!!

Hi, What is the measure between the forks? How thick timber will fit between the forks?
      Kind regards

This is so strange. I ordered mine and it got delivered today. Never seen anyone use them on TH-cam or anything. So it wasn’t an influenced buy. Click on your video and you’ve got one 😂 I’m giving it a try tomorrow

      Great minds think alike 😁
Think you'll like it as it seems to make easy work of pallets!
I've tried all sorts of things but finally gave in and bought the right tool for the job 👍🌱👍

@@marksallotmentplot I’ve tried a claw hammer and a crowbar. But it just splits the wood. Hopefully if the weather improves ( in wet Cumbria) I’ll be up at the allotment 👍🏻

Hi Mark , I also have a pallet breaker, my technique is similar, I use the pallet breaker to prise the joining wood apart by a couple of mm, I then use a reciprocating saw with a metal blade to cut the nails. This technique does not split the wood and works well on all pallets.

    • @Ginty11
      @Ginty11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Once you have cut the nails, do you remove them? Or do you just cut the ends off which had nails?
If you do remove what do you use so not to damage the wood removing the nails Please?

Hi Mark! Not sure if I missed it in the video, but did you buy the long or short version of the roughneck tool please? My husband is 6 foot, and as he'll be doing most of the work I was wondering whether we would need the long version. Thanks!

Hey, this is the one I went for: amzn.to/3VOLwGY
      According to Amazon the dimensions are 96 x 14.5 x 10.5 cm
I'm 5'10" and this size one was just about right for me. 🌱👍🌱

That would have been useful when I built my greenhouse and garden bench (the greenhouse uses pallet wood for the back wall which is facing another wall so no need for windows on it, the bench is entirely pallet wood and even reused some of the nails from the wood).
For those who can't afford that tool... using a piece of wood to leverage other pieces off can be pretty effective... but of course requires you to have that piece of wood to start with.

  • @nitelite78

I have one of these tools. It was good for the first few pallets we did. But then we got a load of different pallets some with bad wood - partially rotten or weak balsa type wood and some of the nails were really large and stuck in and for those the roughneck tool just ended up splitting a lot of the wood which made the hassle not worth it. So in short a good tool as long as you get decent standard pallets.
I think a better tool is an reciprocating saw to just cut through nails but obviously that's a much bigger price tag.

May I suggest using a block of wood the thickness of the pallet to place under the tool for leverage in the spots there's little to pry against.
