For the people who didn't watch it live, one of the best moments not included here was when John was finishing up the boxes and talking about how it was his last chance to naturally get Pokerus as he entered the Pokemon Center. Naturally, Mr. Medal was there due to the medal for the boxes but John forgot that and jebaited himself into thinking it was the Pokerus medal. You could literally see the hope leave him as the realization hit. It was glorious
i got both for £20 each (albeit B2W2 was £30 and the cashier probably made a mistake, but i said nothing) back in 2018 lol i also got platinum for £25 from the same place, all complete with manuals etc
Fun fact: The music and jingles that play for the Medal Rally and XTransceiver minigames were made by Teruo Taniguchi. He’s mostly worked on sound effects and jingles for most of his time with the series. However, his big break finally came recently with *all of Team Star’s music in SV!*

Congratulations on such an amazing accomplishment!
Adding my own experience here too! I casually started a new White 2 save file in december 2022 and, i admit i have been doing it slow but as of today its 230 hours long and 191 medals!! (thanks to my other save file which already had a full National Pokedex, it really helped) i know it will be impossible for us to get ALL of them but honestly when i finish the tedious ones and get over 200 medals i will call it a day. Congratulations to you and to John, what an achievement!!
Good work here! I hope to get pretty close one day, even if I don't quite do it! I'll have to ask how you got the Dream World ones! Those are the only ones I haven't figured out, never heard of that software...

It requires a little bit of Port Forwarding to get it to work, annoyingly it uses the common ports that Xbox & Playstation use so if you've got those mapped you'll have to change them
Between chugga using conventions and you using GO Fest for the 30 fun fest participants it fills me with joy to see all the people that still come together for online stuff.
Despite a ton of the medals were tedious grinding things, I think this video shows just the sheer amount of content the developers put into the gen 5 games. They really went above and beyond, and what did we as the fan base do? Kill it ;(

The wailord isn't random, it just appears if you go there between 3pm and 5pm. Also, the gold trainer card triggering that dialogue isn't a mistake, she specifically points out that it's a shining gold trainer card in both BW and B2W2. The highest level of trainer card in these games is the Black and White trainer card, one step above gold. I'm also fairly close to getting all of the medals, though I'm still a few off, and it's not anywhere near possible currently for me to get the 30 person funfest or 1000 point funfest medals.
I have never imagined Black 2 of all games to have this much content crammed into a single cartridge. I didn't even know half of this stuff in this video even existed.
All these years later and I'm still blown away by the sheer girth of extra content, side missions, mini-games and just....stuff you can do in B2/W2. They really just put anything and everything they could think of to jam-pack those games with features and modes, battles and things to do. It's honestly that much more insulting that the current games we get in the franchise, on superior hardware and higher monetary investment, pale in comparison when it comes to overall content. Gen. 5 has always been my favorite, and your challenge only further cemented that for me, John. Good job on the run 👍
Ironically the very next pokemon games they released after B/W2 ( X/Y) were literally the opposite. XY had pretty much no endgame/side content at all. From this point onwards you could literally feel the sheer lazyness of the developers, the games also got more and more soulless. I dont even wanna talk about Gen 8/9.
There is a reason why X and Y were so incomplete because they had to make the switch to 3d in a really short time so they had no choice but leave it somewhat empty
This is probably my most favourite video from you John. My Copy of Black 2 is now 11 years old and got around 3k hours of playtime, the time even stopped counting at 1k hours and I still dont have all the medals. The amount of effort you put into this is astonishing... Just the fact that you and the community managed to meet up in NewYork to do the festival missions is insane. I think people wont be able to get this medal ever again. Great work! Guys btw John streams on twitch, check it out!

this generation was honestly one of the best in my opinion. the previous titles had all been firmly 2d, little squat character models, and the style of this game thrilled me, the animated 2d sprites and 2.5d overworld was a perfect stylistic middle ground. the world felt rich and interesting, the story felt grand and had human interest for one of the first times in the pokemon series, most of the pokemon designs slapped... just a really good set of games. the medals were a step in the right direction too even if they were way too hard for the vast majority of players (including me). would love to see something like that again someday. pokemon seems like such a natural pick for achievement hunting, given the whole "gotta catch em all" thing
As someone who was present in John's lives of collecting these medals I must say I really did have a great time hanging out with everyone! Such a cozy atmosphere! :)
I had no idea that BW2 was one of the least sold game in the franchise, that floored me. I have a lot of nostalgia for gens 3 and 4, but I was under the impression that it was a pretty universally accepted fact that BW2 are considered the objective peak of the franchise.
Nobody bought it due to a mixture of format fatigue and DPP being the worst games in the franchise so far. According to that big Nintendo leak, it looks like HGSS were in production before DPP got started, and may have been intended to be released first, but was held back to get DPP to market. After DPP reviewed poorly, sales _tanked_ and BW/B2W2 were the ones that bore the brunt of it. People fondly remember RSE, but it actually had fewer features than GSC. No day/night cycle, a smaller map, the lack of backwards compatibility, etc.. DPP had its work cut out to try and bring those back, but it did so in a very convoluted way, while also bringing in some very poor choices, such as the plot, the gameplay progression, the extra HMs, Bidoof... BW solved so much of this, but who was going to trust Game Freak after so many poor decisions in a row? People were looking to _hate_ these games as soon as they were revealed. Remember the whole "It's just an ice cream/lamp/cog/whatever" thing? That all happened before release. What chance did BW have? But the jokes on them. They're still the best games in the franchise, by far. And you just need to look at how many people still draw fan art of the Gen 5 Pokémon, the gym leaders, and _especially_ the protagonists Hilda and Rosa. The games are loved now, but not in their time. I hope they make a Black 3 and White 3 as a continuation of the series, rather than a remake.
This was actually a lot of fun to watch. Johnstone is the one that got me back into Pokemon after a few years away from it with the Professor Oak Challenges. After watching a few, I decided to do my own. I've since completed 4 of them, and gotten back into this series after thinking I was done with it forever.
Man as much as I love gen 5 there is SO MUCH I missed out on by not having other people to play with lol There's so much more in the games than I thought there was
I knew Black 2 and White 2 were big games, but I've never new that it was THIS big! I've participated in a lot of events, including when there was a ticket given to the liberty garden to get victini, and even after putting probably 1000h+ on this game, a lot of stuffs were so foreign to me! Overall, it brought a lot of good memories back
Cannot stress how happy it makes me seeing your videos pop up, it's like an event that I can't wait to dive into. The perfect content to consume podcast-style when doing housework. Also the Medals gave me Trophy/Achievement hunting vibes and it is CRIMINAL that we've never had anything like it since. Great video 🤝👑
Dude this is insane. I grew up with gen 5 and yet this video showed me so many things I’ve never seen of it before. I did not know about the minigames, and I was blown away at the option to switch between white Forrest and black city
Amazing video! It's honestly incredible how much side content and unlockable events are in this game. Pokemon White 2 was my first Pokemon game and has been my favorite for over a decade and I didn't even know most of these events were in the game until I watched this video. Overall, this was really fun to watch and congrats to you for completing this insane challenge ^^
We now always complain about the clear lack of content in modern games, but in the older ones, when we used to get content, much of it remains untouched by players for months to whopping years, like Pokestar, Musicals, minigames etc.
This video is extremely good and very epic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and probably will watch it again 17 times on 30 different devices at the same time : )
22:49 I'm pretty sure if both parties end up fainting, the game counts the last Pokemon standing as the "winner." Since Scizor fainted after Klingklang, that makes John the winner over Liza.
@@spongefan155 True, though I believe that's in the case of Explosion or Destiny Bond; but I think John's case was one of those special ones? I remember this being introduced either this gen or gen 4
big congrats on accomplishing this feat!! as one of the medal meetup attendees who is also trying to obtain every medal i’m so happy to have been a part of the momentous occasion of gaining the funfest medals! I’m at 248/255 medals myself, almost done with the grind :)
I wish pokemon black and white 2 were more popular, they introduced systems and things that even newer gens seem to be lacking in, they felt truly immersive and pushed the limits of the ds insanely.
I remember for the longest time people hated Gen 5 while it was my first Pokémon game so seeing all the love and people replaying B/W-B2/W2 at the moment makes me super happy
Congratulations, John! This is my favorite Pokémon game (though I've only played through once, when it was new). So it's so awesome to see someone having accomplished this in 2023. I thought those Fun Fest and Dream World ones would be completely inaccessible, but leave it to Pokémon fans to find a way!
Genuinely my favorite thing about this and your other challenges, is you are, if not the only, one of a handful of people to ever complete or 100% these aspects of the games. Truly so special to watch your vids and streams.
I didnt catch as much of this saga live as I would have wanted to, but even so, this has been amazing to watch. It's so cool to hear about how many features these games really had, even the ones that I cant imagine ever partaking in, like the musicals. Every johnstone video reignites my love for pokemon and reminds me how weird and special this franchise really is. Absolutely incredible job, and WOW that dedication
John!!! These videos keep getting better. As one of my favorite Pokemon Content Creators, it was so awesome meeting you and taking part in the Funfest mission! I truly can't express enough how genuinely nice and chill you are in person! Thanks again for restarting the funfest mission for me and for hosting it in general. Definitely will be a memory I will not forget. Congratulations on another journey completed with maximum effort. You did the thing dude! Can't wait for the next adventures!
Congratulations on this monumental achievement! I didn’t think it could get crazier than the Prof Oak challenges and yet here we are! That meetup in NYC will honestly be one of my fondest memories as a Pokémon fan.
I rarely comment on anything, but this is an astonishingly amazing achievement. I am also one of those guys that magically got pokerus naturally. Sadly did not complete the medal rally though. That's insane.
i’m so glad nowadays there are more people who appreciate the medals like i do!!! so excited to see creators bringing light to this feature! (also just ordered my hoodie can’t wait to wear it!!) :)))
hearing pokestar studios being called one of the most hated pieces of side content..... maybe its cuz i was a kid but it was one of my fave parts of this game when i first played it and i still sometimes think abt replaying bw2 just to make the movies again 😭😭
I love how nintendo's stance on achievments is that they artificially add content to a game, and yet so many of their games just have their own in game achievment system
I haven't even watched this yet, but thank you for making me realize my memory of getting a metal for checking every trash bin in HG/SS was actually in B2/W2 X'D
I never thought I would see the day that someone could actually 100% Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 and probably be the first person in the world to accomplish it! It really goes to show on why Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 probably only one of the best Pokemon games! *GG’s Mr. Stone* 👏
Black and White 2 had so much content. Thanks for showing us every last drop of it. Black 2 was probably the game I spent the most hours on out of all the series (and I've been playing since Red and Blue) and I was no where near completion 100%.
There's so much content in this game that I didn't even know existed. It's so sad this game went underappreciated because of the 3DS's release. New Pokemon games could never...
This is the most insane Pokemon related thing I've ever seen anyone do. Congrats on doing what (I think) genuinely is the most IMPOSSIBLE Pokemon task in any of the games.
This is insanely tedious, this is like completing 1000% the game. Congrats man, I never even tried to complete this. This was probably one of the most neat things they added from gen4
Now that i think about it, since the dream functions were so short lived and i doubt anyone cared about medals this much you're probably the first to actually complete it.
I adore the way this guy talks, it's so refreshing compared to the stale overly fake personalities you normally find on here. Thanks for just being you, man
Pokémon white 2 was my first Pokémon game- it holds such a special place in my heart- one day I would like to 100% it and seeing content about it makes me happy
It was such a blast to get to meet in person in NY to play some pokemon together. I never got to make any memories with the local multiplayer features in those games as a kid, but being able to experience them now is such a great new memory to have
I tried doing this challenge on my own last year, but stopped because I thought I couldn't get the dream world and passerby medals. now that I know there are workarounds I'm gonna finally complete this!!!
This really puts into perspective the truly mind blowing amount of content in these games. I’ve played B2W2 several times, and there were still several side quests in this video that I didn’t know existed. No wonder Game Freak goes so light on content in newer gens-they put the entire kitchen sink into B2W2 and hardly anyone even played the extra content! 😂
53:57 Main character goes far and beyond to complete all these challenging tasks to get the Ultimate Medal. Trainer card still stays you're a Preschooler
Really makes you think about how little content there is in the newer pokemon games by comparison, honestly. this is such a fun vid and I wish the newer games had these kinds of challenges to work on!
Just 2-3 months ago I thought about doing that but than had a look at the list of medals and what you had to do and lost motivation. So I'm glad that I can just watch somebody suffer doing it instead of me.
Thats quite super impressive. GG ! I never really bothered to get more than 150 medals even if i complete the pokedex, pokewood and everything else... You give me motivation, i'll try to go for the max possible i can do ^^
39:10 RIP Shellder. If only you hadn’t met Cheryl. It was a Wednesday towards the end of January. Me, Shellder, and Cheryl decided to go sledding in the Grand Canyon. Between the driving and traffic, we had a lot of fun in our chinese-child powered carriage. Shellder said he really had to go potty, so we pulled over and let him do his business. He's the type to pull his pants all the way down when he pees but he hates it when people look at him. We told him that we'd go off somewhere else so that he could do his business. Cheryl had a devious plan though. As me and Cheryl were walking off so that Shellder could do his thing, she immediately bolted back in the direction of Shellder. I was a little frazzled by her sudden charge so I was slow to react. I chased her through the bushes and as I ran all I heard was a scream. It was Shellder. I quickened my pace praying to God that she didn't do what I thought she did. I made it to the clearing Shellder was at and there she was... wixotolating him. I was too horrified to move. After it was all over, Shellder shed a single tear. With it's fall, his physical form began to dissipate. He looked at himself withering away, looked up at the grinning Cheryl and said his last words: Wane beyond the horizon. Trip the waves into the day morn. Sail. These are the writs of God. I'll miss you dude. I'm sorry I couldn't save you

What do you mean? Don't they still make Trophy Hunter stuff?
Dude this is insane. I grew up with gen 5 and yet this video showed me so many things I’ve never seen of it before. I did not know about the minigames, and I was blown away at the option to switch between white Forrest and black city
Absolutely incredible video, the streams were such a good time as a community and it was great being there for the ones I could be there for.
Amazing video!
It's honestly incredible how much side content and unlockable events are in this game. Pokemon White 2 was my first Pokemon game and has been my favorite for over a decade and I didn't even know most of these events were in the game until I watched this video.
Overall, this was really fun to watch and congrats to you for completing this insane challenge ^^
the gen 5 games have so much obscure side content that most people would never even come across
We now always complain about the clear lack of content in modern games, but in the older ones, when we used to get content, much of it remains untouched by players for months to whopping years, like Pokestar, Musicals, minigames etc.
ain’t nobody use those dream features 😭 @@lipika2841
This video is extremely good and very epic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and probably will watch it again 17 times on 30 different devices at the same time : )
2:40 "The most skipped aspect of any Pokemon game"
Woa woa woa, there will be no Pokestar Studio slander here, easily one of my favorite modes
22:49 I'm pretty sure if both parties end up fainting, the game counts the last Pokemon standing as the "winner." Since Scizor fainted after Klingklang, that makes John the winner over Liza.
The Games Considers A Tie As A Lose For The Player
@@spongefan155 True, though I believe that's in the case of Explosion or Destiny Bond; but I think John's case was one of those special ones? I remember this being introduced either this gen or gen 4
big congrats on accomplishing this feat!! as one of the medal meetup attendees who is also trying to obtain every medal i’m so happy to have been a part of the momentous occasion of gaining the funfest medals! I’m at 248/255 medals myself, almost done with the grind :)
Man I'm so jealous about the meetup you did to obtain the 1000 points record. Sucks to live on any place but USA lol
I'm surprised to hear people hate on Pokestar Studios so much. I honestly loved it when I played the game as a kid.
Seeing this, Black and White 2 were really the peak of the series, huh? Awesome video, had totally forgotten that this was even a thing.
I wish pokemon black and white 2 were more popular, they introduced systems and things that even newer gens seem to be lacking in, they felt truly immersive and pushed the limits of the ds insanely.
i mean they're objectively by far the best games
Don't tell Chuggaaconroy that you've ALREADY gotten every medal!...
I remember for the longest time people hated Gen 5 while it was my first Pokémon game so seeing all the love and people replaying B/W-B2/W2 at the moment makes me super happy
"This is the mafia?" Might be the most dissapointed sass ive ever heard
Congratulations, John! This is my favorite Pokémon game (though I've only played through once, when it was new). So it's so awesome to see someone having accomplished this in 2023. I thought those Fun Fest and Dream World ones would be completely inaccessible, but leave it to Pokémon fans to find a way!
Genuinely my favorite thing about this and your other challenges, is you are, if not the only, one of a handful of people to ever complete or 100% these aspects of the games. Truly so special to watch your vids and streams.
I love pokestar studios and I hope when we get Gen 5 sequels/remakes that we can still make movies and hopefully it won't be like how bdsp turned out.
Chuggaaconroy is going to love this video!
Just posted my comment to support his metal addiction
Bro you did not have to flex on Chuggaa like this, I _love_ it.
This was so fun to watch, an entire month of Johnstone streaming and collecting medals was a big adventure!
Thanks for reminding me how good these games are, they have soooo much content to do, they just don't do pokemon games like these anymore
*Sounds of Chuggaa salivating*
hearing pokestar studios being called one of the most hated pieces of side content..... maybe its cuz i was a kid but it was one of my fave parts of this game when i first played it and i still sometimes think abt replaying bw2 just to make the movies again 😭😭
*GG’s Mr. Stone* 👏
nothing u said shows anything that suggests black/white 2 are the best games.
Gen 5 generally wasnt popular, which was a shame
This is the most insane Pokemon related thing I've ever seen anyone do. Congrats on doing what (I think) genuinely is the most IMPOSSIBLE Pokemon task in any of the games.
Chuggaaconroy:"Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!"
Emile watching this video: DUDE HOWWWW!
This is insanely tedious, this is like completing 1000% the game. Congrats man, I never even tried to complete this. This was probably one of the most neat things they added from gen4
watching this while also watching chuggaaconry makes me happy
“A sweet heart is not worth 47,000 Pokémon money”
Okay Smallant, I’m waiting for the “Pokémon, but Inflation is out of control” challenge run.
id love to see an achievement system like this in the newer game. just…maybe not so ridiculously hard
None of them are ridiculously hard, they’re either tedious or have no more online support. Nothing in Pokémon is ridiculously hard
your videos are some of my absolute favorite easy listens i appreciate the effort on actual hardware as well keep up the awesome work
Jesus there's more content in b2w2 than the last three gens combined
Now that i think about it, since the dream functions were so short lived and i doubt anyone cared about medals this much you're probably the first to actually complete it.
All the effort and passion that went into this one video.
Kudos to you man! You have my respect!
Well, definitely gotta subscribe. The sheer dedication in 100%ing this game in an entire month demands it
I adore the way this guy talks, it's so refreshing compared to the stale overly fake personalities you normally find on here. Thanks for just being you, man
Man there is a stupid amount of content in Black and White 2 that I had no clue about lmao.
Them and Platinum are tied for spot 1 on my favorite list, try out the romhacks of bw2 they are amazing aswell!
Pokémon white 2 was my first Pokémon game- it holds such a special place in my heart- one day I would like to 100% it and seeing content about it makes me happy
It was such a blast to get to meet in person in NY to play some pokemon together. I never got to make any memories with the local multiplayer features in those games as a kid, but being able to experience them now is such a great new memory to have
I was shocked to hear pokestar studios is hated. I honestly love it! I go out of my way to make my pokemon stars in cult classics! Its just so fun!
I tried doing this challenge on my own last year, but stopped because I thought I couldn't get the dream world and passerby medals. now that I know there are workarounds I'm gonna finally complete this!!!
do you know where to find the stuff/tutorial for the work around?
This really puts into perspective the truly mind blowing amount of content in these games. I’ve played B2W2 several times, and there were still several side quests in this video that I didn’t know existed. No wonder Game Freak goes so light on content in newer gens-they put the entire kitchen sink into B2W2 and hardly anyone even played the extra content! 😂
I love gen 5
Didn’t realize there was this much to do honestly all I remember was the poké star studios
That’s actually so cool seeing so many people vibing with each other & their 3ds’. Gotta love the Pokémon fandom
Can‘t wait for the video were he does all of the Pokemon Go medals. Love you John
Just 2-3 months ago I thought about doing that but than had a look at the list of medals and what you had to do and lost motivation. So I'm glad that I can just watch somebody suffer doing it instead of me.
Have you ever heard the definition of insanity?
Me: Yes I'm subscribed to Johnstone
Thats quite super impressive. GG ! I never really bothered to get more than 150 medals even if i complete the pokedex, pokewood and everything else... You give me motivation, i'll try to go for the max possible i can do ^^
HALF A MILLION BABY 🔥
Thanks for dropping an upload at the perfect time I’ve been having a crummy day and this made me smile. Looking forward to that ORAS video lol
The daily streams made my summer so much more enjoyable.
Wow this game has so much more content than I realised. B2W2 are kind of goated ngl
chuggaconroy approves 👍
Wow huge respect and congrats. Could never go through such tedious tasks. Comedy was especially on point in this video
26:00 "dont put morse code in chat" lmao
He looked at himself withering away, looked up at the grinning Cheryl and said his last words:
Wane beyond the horizon. Trip the waves into the day morn. Sail. These are the writs of God.
I'll miss you dude. I'm sorry I couldn't save you
I like the fact he uses actual hardware for most of his challenges. Too many people use emulator and speed up just to pump out content faster and it sucks
Between John and Chuggaaconroy, 2023 might be the most anyone has ever cared about BW2 in history ... I'm here for it
And RTGame
Chuggaaconroy would be so proud
Rad. Good job on the challenge- it’s great exposure for parts of the game not well explored by the majority of us
