Try your micro jig properly rigged. Tie trace to the assist hook solid ring

Thanks mate. Yeah I’ve figured that one out since filming. I’ll sort it out correctly next time. Cheers for watching. Thomas.

Another awesome video, I know I’m on the other side of the globe but I’m learning so much from this, the Welsh fish won’t be prepared for these NZ techniques😅 Great to see the big fish going back, I always try and leave the big ones myself 👍🏼

Haha really hit them from left field! What techniques are you mainly using there and what sort of fish are you going after? I was so happy when the big one swam away. That’s always a great sight. Thanks so much for watching and I’m so glad you’re enjoying the vids. Cheers, Thomas

Get an over head reel .
You can stay in touch on the drop much easier when you thumb the spool. No line twist after a few good fish . Overheads are more balanced and have better drags.
No hits once in awhile wind your jig slowly up for five to ten meters.
In twenty meters or so it takes a while for the detritus of surface feeding fish to hit the bottom you dont 'need to be where the work up is you need to be where it was.
Fished jigs extensively in the nineties 30 gramme lethal worked a treat in Auckland harbor.

Amazing tips. Thanks very much Martin. I really would like to get a dedicated combo for micro jigs. I’ve got tons to learn so your comment is really helpful to me and anyone else reading this. Thanks again and thanks for watching. Thomas.

For light jigs it's better to cast ahead of the drift like softbaiting. Overhead reel is better for dropping down sliders. Unless you're a bass master lol

Your jig is on upside down brother. Tie the leader to the solid ring

my 5 cents. half turn, stall, half turn stall, 5 /6 ups, then drop repeat mix it up ...
