@@mlt_sk I agree with you to an extent but the tools being great are what enable the artist to achieve their vision. So it's an accomplishment for the artists and the tools. I do a lot of amazing things with the tools available to me, but if I had to do everything with a rusty spoon my end product or my sanity would suffer :P
Yes, people need to stop thinking that just because software is open source and doesn't cost the price of a house, that makes it bad. Blender is still very studio grade.
@@fragmister Funny, the reason movies switch to VFX is because of the *cost* and safety concerns. A specific scene in The Shining (1980) cost $50k on the cheap, but realistically, $100k incase of unforeseen costs. If it's CG it would cost $14~20K. You can skim the video "CGI vs Real - Can you tell the difference" to know more. "Industry" standard subscriptions ain't getting cheaper, infact it's the exact opposite. As time goes on, the subscriptions would just keep piling up on the price, while Blender historically, just keeps getting better.

Yeah, it is. Favorite part is when the dog runs his hand across all the switches. hahaha I saw I guy back in college get his computer to work correctly by doing exactly that in the computer lab.
I saw somewhere that this portraits very well a developer/artist interaction in the Blender community, and it makes A LOT OF SENSE. While the developers are wanting to make sure that the features [0:54] are working perfectly fine until we're ready to use in a serious/big production -- or flying in this case [1:25] --, most of us, artists, want to take charge and dig into all the tools we see [0:45], even if they are not optimized or fixed, which causes many crashes, just like the space shuttle did [2:44]. Fortunately, in the community we are not piloting a literal space shuttle, so we are allowed to crash it as many times as we want, so we can acknowledge the developers what's wrong and what can be fixed.
Putting tools in the hands of everyone, allowing them to freely explore different passions (and not just the one the can afford to commit 100% to/get a job in/the one their survival is coupled to), and bringing soul back to these arts, wonderful.
I love how Blender keeps pushing the 2D/3D hybrid style of animation. For people who prefer one over the other, I feel like the mix of the two is the best approach. I hope gaming could implement more of this 2D/3D style.
You can't really have 2D and 3D mixed in many genres it's just geniunly not possible, for one the lack of engines capable to make a fully mixed game, second a lack of an audience, and third like.. why..?
@@cyonu5675 For one, I really like it and it adds character. And I'm not talking specifically this style of 2D/3D shown in the video. Games like Sifu and Stray have flat paintered textures which gives it a semi 2D feel. Other examples are first Life is Strange, Bayonetta Origins, Valkyrie Chronicles series, Guilty Gear Strive, Valorant, the upcoming Prince of Persia, and Hi-Fi Rush. Not every game needs to be like this but I wouldn't mind if more were.
Watching this at 6am was like taking a time machine to my childhood before-school cartoon binges. Such good vibes, and presented perfectly. Thanks for reminding me why I became an animator in the first place.

Another open movie in the books! The blend of 2D and 3D is also pretty cool. I could imagine studios like Xilam, Flying Bark, and Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick using a style like this.
So much work went into every level of this short, like all the Blender movies, it's a shame you won't be enjoying the fruits of your labors more by reusing these assets and making it a series!
It's animations like this that actually cause this art to imitate life. That dog is like me using Blender at my studio for the first time and being like; holy shit I can make anything with this, while the others are just baffled and a bit left behind; and the red button is AI art and dream textures. Even the using all your blender knowledge to do some trick to make sense of a broken project... until your render crashes. It's just so weirdly relevant.
I love these videos because there's blender users and then there's movies by blender that just blow the doors off what you thought possible. So well done! I only wish there was a more cohesive way to learn from Blender how to use the software. But this video was amazing.
Hello Blender studio, I've been waiting for this moment for months this year. This is the fourth time I've been online when they uploaded a video just that day. Your short film is great, I loved it, it has a funny and incredible ending.
Thanks for sharing this short film. The visuals are funny. Sound effects and music are spot on. Characters are relatable. The make-a-list-first-then-follow-it person versus try-everything-first-then-list-it person could be spouse, sibling, or good friend. The imaginative sci-fi gags remind me of several old cartoons like "Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a half Century", "Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genuis", and "Phineas and Ferb".
This animation truly excelled in both storytelling and comedic timing. The combination of animation techniques, including the skillful use of 2D effects and 3D , resulted in the most entertaining Blender Open Movie to date.
this is essentially what Menander was demonstrating in combing 2D with 3D elements. cool to see something like this still be a thing, even if it's not directly Meander. great work!
We all know, that Blender finally made it to Hollywood. So these movies are not a showcase anymore. But I LOOOOVE the idea, that all the assets are "free" to download that anybody who uses blender, can learn blender. Thanks for all your work.

Great work, not just on a technical level. The story, conveying so much without spoken dialogue, the characters having a set identity, the little details to give it its own style (the chicken in the horn was a nice touch), it works on so many levels.

Into/Across rhe spiderverse, the lego movie, puss in boots: the last wish and Mitchells vs the machines are such well loved movies for A REASON.

@@animantis No problem! I could tell due to the fps comment, as the fps dropped significantly during action scenes (I studied these movies a lot as an artist myself!) Really sucks that op thinks this... Kinda hurts since they're from the more competent movies in the industry right now
