    Super informative video! I have been growing Dahlias for 7 years--Swan Island was the first place I bought tubers from. I love your customer service and quality tubers! I now have over 130 varieties--bought from many places, but I still support Swan Island Dahlias every year! I highly recommend your business! THANK YOU!

    Thank you! I asked for more videos, and you uploaded two today! These are really very helpful for new growers. The dahlia groups on FB are really talking about the amount of gall coming in from imported tubers, sold by the big online companies.

      @@SwanIslandDahlias I just dug up some tubers yesterday because I was anxious to see if they had rot over the year. I'm in zone 8b (sw wa) and I hadnt covered over winter. I washed them off with warm water but won't be able to divide them until tomorrow-
      Is that ok? I have no idea what I'm doing lol
      I am a little confused on how to divide and If I can just plant the bulb if it doesn't have an eve. I was going to replant in a different area, just plain old dirt. Last how do I use diatomaceous earth on them and what is it for?

    hi this is my first year ever trying tubers of any kind….right now it’s 60-70 consistently during the day and 40-txt 50 at night…..so I bought dahlia tubers from Home Depot ( sorry was unaware of companies like yours) I bought early or mid April they are still in the bags…hubby and both have been sick and haven’t gotten to them…thought I was late! so I did watch your potting video first, then the class with you and your dad…then fertilizer then this one…lol it’s a little overwhelming but i think i’m going to get some peat and top soil and plant in pots and put in my garage where it’s warm and I guess without a lot of light…I will watch to make sure they don’t dry out…then one they rise above soil in pot I will plant in a bigger pot….we do have squirrels …so I think pots will be better. So if I’m correct use top soil and some potting soil….may need to watch that video again🙈 We live in Delaware zone 7 and have that nasty wet clay soil if you can call it that…more like red clay mud with a lot of rock which is why I think pots will be better….sorry for long comment….does it sound like I picked up enough to try? We have lived here 24 years and have. clay fabric rock mulch then real mulch….i feel like we should do raised beds to have any success any other suggestions to help me be successful? thank you so much for all of the wonderful information i really appreciate it😊kim

    Can you clarify when tubers cannot be dug, divided, and then immediately replanted?
    I am in central Florida and planned to dig them up in February to divide and replant.

    Thank you so much for your video! Question: I am dividing my tubers after summer and it looks like I sliced through the bump where the eye lives, maybe damaging the eye. Is it still good to store? Or did I ruin it?

    • @SwanIslandDahlias
      @SwanIslandDahlias  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They will produce a small clump of tubers the first year. As for your tubers, yes you can leave them in but they do need at least 3 months of rest time between seasons. 🌸

    Awesome video! You have mentioned in multiple videos what manures/composts are appropriate for dahilas... what do you think about home-made compost made from wood chips or dead leaves? I've never done a soil test it, so I'm not sure what the nitrogen levels are, but it's 99% dead tree/plant matter

    Hi, terrific presentation. Could you Please show close up much closer up. The tubers we can see the new growth of a little green spect but really can’t see it taking about the deep down new growths and new eyes. The old, last years tubers being removed are where. The ones that don’t look good, we can’t really see which ones from far away pictures. Just like the filing. Terrific job describing it and what he’s going to do and make sure you keep cutting tools sharp but couldn’t see how he was filing it.
    Again , terrific presentation but please let us see what your describing…
    Thx
