I really enjoyed this. Good voices, sound, staging; and the acting had me absolutely convinced. This is a great Opera; and I am not one who gets overly involved "in whether the voice is deep enough, or the translation perfect". What matters to me is that I believe in the characters and I care about what is happening. I would love to see the rest of this production. This was a Mephistopheles and a Faust I could feel.
The production is OK. Castronovo is excellent, but Schrott does not have the voice type for Mefistofele: not deep and dark enough; he sounds more like a bariton trying to sing a bass role.

Magnificent performance, production and finale. Bravo.
That final interaction between Faust and Mefistofele shows exactly why you never tell a parent their kid isn't cute.
c'est très beau, une extase pour les oreilles !
Somewhere there’s a young Bruce Wayne in the audience.

Because he is a baritone singing a bass role. But sadly we don't have the golden age stars here anymore. Should we get used to this?
Braucht Mef.keine Stimme mehr? Was für eine Parodie?
La traduzione francese massacra I bei versi italiani!
Ah! Ein Errlicht!
Bravo Schrott ma e' un baritono...
He does not have the voice required for Mefistofele.
orribile.
