Saw them in 89.. opened with Plain Song... every time I hear it I’m brought back to that fabulous night..watching all the festival stuff from 2019 I have to say they are still “The Greatest Show on Earth”!!!
With no ticket and a 2 hr drive i made a last minute decision to jump onto the frwy and catch them @ the Oakland Coleseum on this tour. One of the clearest loudest best sounding shows ive ever seen, was so good I thought they were lip syncing to the CD it was that good. In my top 7 live shows of all time. Im a rocker but love melody, to me melody is king which is why Depeche Mode on their Violator tour is in that top 7
That was the first time I saw them, in Oakland. I was so new to the band I didn’t know the old stuff, but I will never forget that vibe, that knowledge that this was a night that would never happen again.
I will say this , sense his departure the band has always had a big hole in it.... The current guy has spent 25 years trying fill shoes that he can't EVER fill... So yeah BIG LOSS...
I was in the concert of the tour in Athens. 15 yo, my first gig! I saw them again in 2019 in Athens and they started with the Plainsong , as if they knew I was there
Been there 😍😍😍 and.. still have the ticket. I will never forget this concert, the great sound and the perfekt place at Loreley. Huge thanks for uploading the Video!!!
I remember I was driving with two friends in my old 1972 VW Beetle from Hagen (near Dortmund) to this Loreley concert. The weather was fine, it was a great concert.
Was this really in 1989? I can only imagine the giant camcorder and tripod that was needed to film this in 1989. I think you even had to plug it into a vcr to record concerts back then.
Lansdowne Park Ottawa, Ontario.August '89. Best live concert memory of my life. Opening bass line and light show on Fascination Street imprinted forever.
I was gonna say, this was probably hell to synch without Boris in the shot to use cymbals as a reference point, but probably the best point would have been the zoom in on Robert when he was singing Just Like Heaven I would imagine. The rest of it was a little far away unless you used zooming in on the video to help. Of course once you get a point you can probably add timecode and go from there for the rest of it.
Reeves will never adopt the minimalist sound that made The Cure unique. His playing is undoubtedly good, but not for the deep soul heart of the Cure sound.
@@AC-oi7dh maybe it's better that Cure don't have new albums for a long time. the same for Sisters or Fields of the Nephilim. look what happend to Bauhaus ... "go away white?!"
hey Tommy, I was there...it is an old roman amphitheater on top of the Loreley Rock in the Canyon of the River Rhine. It was not only the best Cure Show i`ve ever seen, it was the best venue i`ve ever been to!!!
It was fantastic. Except, the port-a-loos were, for those times, were a lot more expensive than others. I was so annoyed that it was the only festival I went to and didn't drink any beer. But at least was able to remember everything 🤣
Danke, war damals tolle Zeit !!! Das erstaunliche ist,das man the cure heute von früher immer noch hören kann. Übrigens der Sound ist gut. Es gibt keine bessere Band als The cure.....best...aaaahh....yeah

Prayer and wish tours were proper loud. Awesome stuff. Head on the door was also epic!
Do you DM was lip synching on their Violator tour? Never suspected the Cure did this.
Boris, the best drummer of cure.
The best for sure!

Porsupuesto!

So was I, got an organised tour bus from London, overnight stay in Frankfurt and Lorelie the next day. Unbelievable weekend.
My first time THE CURE live... 🖤
I was 17...
Such a strange venue. It feels like this is what inspired the Never Enough video! 😂
I've always always wanted to see this tour thank you so much
Boris and Simon locked in... sounding fkin amazing!!!! about as good as it gets in my humble opinion!
The camera work on this video is terrible! A injustice to the CURE!

The cure surpassed any other band no doubt about it ❤
The genius of Robert Smith and the Cure....gee I loved them through my young years....so unpretentious and never had the ego...
That was my first Cure Concert. Great! Thanx!
I was there. Fantastic day. Pixies The Mission and The Sugarcubes were also on the bill.
1989, first time i see a concert... The Cure , in Fréjus ! love
War mein 1. Lorely Konzert
Ich war dabei 🤩🤩🤩
Wow..the amount of people who were at this exact concert is statistically amazing...lol
Has anyone pointed out that this the Disintegration tour?
Robert dance during Last Dance ...
Pearl, Robert and Simon jamming - glorious on A Forest!
Pearl was never in The Cure

Still a post-punk sound at this point. Gabriel Reeves was better for David Bowie
and definitely worse for The Cure

I was at this show, one of my favorite cure concerts from the 80's. Amazing to see this
