Half of my family is from that area. My father told me about getting water from that spring. Wasn’t until I was an adult did I get to explore it myself. The lake at the park that it’s located has lots of fond memories, too. Thanks so much for sharing. Haven’t seen it in 30 years.
Most people don't even know it's there as it's off the road and not even labeled...there are some GREAT spots to see in North Park. Some really cool legends and stories and history there, plus it's really cool place. It has not been covered at least since 1990!
I enjoyed this great adventure, Jay!!! Interesting place!!! Too bad the water isn't drinkable anymore!!! God bless you, keep you healthy and safe 🙏❤️🙏 ✝️⛪💚❤️🤍🎄☃️
Wow; the stonework is incredible! Loved the tour! It took guts to go into that crawl space with all of the spiders! Thanks for taking us along with you; much appreciated! …….🌝
There was some fine work done by workers at this time, it illustrates the respect and importance given to water sources, something that should always be acknowledged.
Grew up here at North Park. Such a beautiful area and so much to do. A lot of great nature trails. Still visit it about once a week. The Wildwood Mine once adjoined the park, but only a few remnants remain. It was the scene of some violent worker/owner/law enforcement uprisings. It was also a great source for watching trains. Thanks for sharing. 💙
Loved the beautiful stonework ...real craftsmanship... I enoy seeing an occasional Daddy Long Legs ...but not by the 100s LOL...I iimagine it is really pretty there in the springtime. ..Can just see families having picnics in days gone by ..Love the music you chose ...Thank you for sharing another fun adventure ! 👍💙
It isn’t slippery, it’s “slippy”. You are in Pittsburgh, after all. My grandfather and his father worked on WPA projects in the Beaver area, so I doubt they worked on this, but it’s interesting to see stonework from that time.
Amazing roadside find and such beautiful stonework and a sweet little creek. Interesting history too. Love the unique circular Fountain of Youth stone sign. You are right, it took some intricate work to arrange and insert all the small stones around the sign. The place for sure does have that Romanesque feeling to it and the landscape all around it is beautiful. I might venture into that back cave because Daddy Long Legs are the only spider I don't mind, although I have never seen that many in one place ever. lol The step spillway is also remarkable and love the stonework of that too. Great video JP, thank you! 💙
Beautiful stone work! Such a cool find! It's too bad the water is no longer drinkable. But the architecture & history make it well worth visiting. I'm glad you don't mind spiders, so we got a view of the inside, too. I like the white, heart-shaped stone on the floor toward the center back. The water sound was nice, too. Loved the photo montage! Great video!💙
I passed the Fountain of Youth while riding the bus starting in elementary school to middle school. Finally, in 1987, I convinced my friends to get on our BMX bikes and leave our neighborhood, Talleybrooke, to make the journey to see it. It took us about 2 hours, but we made it and explored inside. The ride back up Grubbs Rd was always a challenge.
What a neat attraction. Something for a Boy Scout Troop to get involved in. Cleaning it up and improving the paths and may be even adding a little bridge over the creek. And as always, with the permission of the park.
So neat! I loved the stone work, too! I hate spiders. You always find the Coolest spots. I want to wish you and your family, to Have a very Merry Christmas! And a Happy New Year! 😊
Originally from Monroeville,my grandfather used to talk about the fountain of youth,id ask where, he'd say in the Hill's.. didn't know it really existed.lol..im 50 now im looking for time machine... great video!!
Awww thousands of harmless Daddy long legs Spider's, mans best friend because they kill mozzies and other poisonous Spider's, yet the DLL spider has the most poisonous bite of any spider, but can't pierce human skin. Beautiful cave and construction of a by-gone era.😊
These were all over Western Pennsylvania. The ones in the more urbanized areas have all fallen into disuse. If you venture east by southeast of Pittsburgh into the Laurel Highlands, you'll find springs still being used by the locals.
What I like about your insight is your joy of sharing history and willing to extend your experance past the spiders, and of water their is unsafe to drink or wash with. SO EVERY BODY BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING,LIFE IS TOO PRECIOUS TO DIE YOUNG.
How wonderful! That is truly an awesome historical landmark! Need to change name, because if I had gone in there and seen all those spiders, I would have DIED!!😳 You are brave! Stay safe!❤
Glad you told me about this little piece of architecture hidden away. The stonework and brickwork are so beautifully done with such craftsmanship and attention to detail. That many spiders really creeped me out tho. So glad I have you to explore these places for me..
Absolutely beautiful. To bad some have to ruin it. My nerdy self would be clearing out the debris from inside. We can't expect local government to keep it clean, we too must do our part.
Cool video, I'm from PA and never heard of this place. Quick note: The Sign on top, I don't think those stones were laid in the concrete, Those stones were the aggregate and are exposed from erosion.. Have you ever been to Indian Point, Roaring Spring? Interesting location.
Beautiful spot. I live about ten miles from one of the places that Ponce de Leon landed in Florida, and some of the local springs are thought to perhaps, maybe be the so-called "real" fountain of youth. Truth is that it's a myth, but it's fun local lore. Florida's springs are incredible places with or without the legends and I highly recommend visiting one of more if you're ever in this area.
😎👍 There are many neat places to see in North Park, there are Mt.Bike trails above this location that were horse trails way back throughout the park. There are many cool places to see in North Park like this ,I wish I knew you were in the area I live 20 minutes from there I could have shown you other spots Take Care Matt 🇺🇸
This is great!!!! I got so excited that maybe you did find the Fountain Of Youth and you brought me back a rock or water so I could maybe rub it on my body to get rid of the wrinkles. Oh well, I’m still looking. Lolol. 🤗💙good try though. Keep me in mind in the future.
Awesome find! Beautiful! The spiders would keep me out for sure! Them are Harvesters, they are arachnids and in the spider family we call them Granddaddy long legs too, they are harmless but I still don't like them!😊 Thanks for bringing us along for such a beautiful Roadside find!👍
Well that was a literally hole in the wall sort of!! I’d just be interested in getting a sample of water sent off just to see if it’s still contaminated and possibly with what. This was a neat little place. Very interesting too. Thank you for sharing
That cutout/spillway on that creek structure is probably a remnant or part of what is known as a Stream Gaging Station. Use to measure water flow, levels, temp, and other characteristics of the stream. USGS might have info on it.
Yeah I’d pass on going back there. 🤣🤢 Too bad the spring turned out to have bacteria in it. But it’s a great concept. And it’s good they didn’t board it up but still left it open. Thanks for sharing, JP!
Fantastic! I grew up close to it!! My parents talked of this place. Really neat I think back in the 50s they got water from there, not sure. I'll take spiders over rats ! Lol
It really angers me when people deface property. They have no concept of history/historical properties. There are so many different ways to have fun. Actually surprised that someone got their nose out of their phone long enough to execute the tasteless graffiti 😡
Awesome! Just a side note. Those aren't really "spiders". They're Harvestmen; otherwise known as "Daddy Long Legs", like you said. They're completely harmless. They'll scatter and run away when disturbed. Other than being "icky looking", they're no worry at all.
I'd be looking out for snakes if there in warm weather. Did they say where the bacteria contamination came from? It don't look like there's any local septic systems nearby? Is it down stream from a cattle farm?
Thanks for this! Just beautiful. I wish you had taken a sample of the water. I feel like we should be restoring all our natural water sources i doubt it’s contaminated worse than our toxic chemical, pharmaceutical, cancer causing, endocrine disrupting public water.
LOL so cool!! Charlottes web cave edition lol. Wearing under armour is my fountain of youth haha jk if i wear it to workout and explore in. great video and find!!
What a wonderful video. Was the spring water actually safe to drink without boiling it first when the Fountain of Youth was built in the late 1930's? While I'm not afraid of spiders either, I'd probably carry a Raid multi-insect control aerosol spray with me and spray those pesky spiders that are clustered together to at least wipe out many of them. Just my thoughts.
Ya, those looked like harvestman, or as you mentioned more commonly known as "daddy-longlegs." So not actually spiders, though still from a different family of arachnids.
those are orb weaver spiders. they are harmless. they are everywhere in pittsburgh right now. theyre all over my house. theyre no more dangerous than a daddy long leg. there are a million other bugs to be worried about that youre lucky those spiders ate before you got there, like ticks.
I live in Corry Pa and we have the best water in western PA we have springs everywhere I agree with the person from guys mills we have the greatest water
What an awesome Roadside attraction. What did you think of all those 8 legged friends inside?
I LIKE Daddy Long Legs!😄 I'm not sure I'm crazy about them in such great quantities, though!
I like to see them ...one at a time LOL ..
I don’t usually mind spiders but that’s too many for me in a tiny enclosed space like that…
@@sheilan6235 That WAS a LOT....when spiders make a wall look like it has a beard....😁

I was wondering with the cars driving by, how many know it's there. Probably looks much different in the warmer months.
@JPVideos81 you can hardly see it in the summer, unless you really look closely.

I would love to see this place in the spring time as well. Craftsmanship is remarkable and holding up quite well.
yes, DLL, not spiders
I grew up in Pittsburgh half my life, moved to the North Hills. I never heard of this until now. Thanks for sharing.
While you're checking this out also check out 'Gravity Hill' in North Park. Put car in neutral and take off the brakes !
It isn’t slippery, it’s “slippy”. You are in Pittsburgh, after all.
My grandfather and his father worked on WPA projects in the Beaver area, so I doubt they worked on this, but it’s interesting to see stonework from that time.
I didn't realize it, but we all say slippy when we're describing walkways, steps, etc. in the winter.

There is a spring in Lynn Run State Park. Dad and I used to go to it 20 years ago. It's a chlorinated spring though.
Yeah. We had one out behind New Brighton. We used to be able to drink from it but the more they built houses it became increasingly unsafe to drink

Amazing, find JP, im just thinking, where does the water flowing into the fountain come from? It looks like from downhill, through the ground.
I'm guessing underground, but I dont know the true source.
cool little find that was, must have been thriving in the 1930s - at least those spiders wernt the big black ones, nice one jp
What a neat little place shame about the bacteria in the water . I really liked the pictures very nice !! 👍👍

It's in remarkably good condition and hope it lasts for decades to come.

Sweet find! Really pisses me off when they graffiti the hell out of such a nice landmark.

Pretty cool art deco looking stonework on this site.
