Got damn, thats alot of work! Im taking out a volunteer palm tmrw! Its already ten feet tall at the tip of the fronds. Just going to get worse the higher it gets! Keep up the good work fellas!
Great Video! I skinned my California Fan palm about 5 years ago and wish this video was around then. Now I know what to do and how it's supposed to be done. I aired on the side of caution and didn't go so far afraid that I would cut too deeply so it looked a bit fuzzier than it should and didn't get those clean rings. Thanks for this!
Hey mate. This might help you. Me personaly when i do something that leaves a lot of small bits on dificult surface such as gravel usually put down big enough tarp or something and work on top of that so my clean up consists of basicli picking up corners and dumping content of said tarp cutting down clean up time to nearly zero.
Apperantely you haven’t worked with palm trees….he did it the way everyone I know does it. Skinning can be harmful. Your taking away it’s protection but doesn’t mean it will cause a problem just consider why you want it skinned and it takes time.
@Wildlife Warrior i had a palm i wanted to get rid of so i thought mmmm let me try this out. The palm is now completely dead. Its dried up and all fronds are brown and have fallen off. I wasnt careful but i dont see were i went into the trunk. This process is hest if started with palms from the begin inning. I say young palm trees but this palm was about 5-6’ tall and it was HEALTHTY. Its also not even close to how easy as he makes it. Im not saying anything negative just saying be careful. Good luck with your palms.
@Wildlife Warrior yes this in the tree business is the only ones that should be doing this. My tree is less than 1/2 the height but i didnt want this tree. I tried the method on a tree that didnt matter. In fact i have four more and im going to try to dispose of them the same way. Ive taken care of my palms for about thirty years but i never when and stripped the part of the fonds that was left behind. I trim.
this kinds of job are always overlook some people think it just a no brain job done but they truly wrong. i salute you for loving, putting effort, time to your work
I know this video is old but I own a Residential renovation and handyman company in Las Vegas and got a cple requests from clients lately to "clean up thier palm trees". Believe it or not, a regular "saw- saw" added with your razor blade advice really makes the trees look CRAZY clean! Thanks brotha!
Hell yeah brother!! Thank you so much for that video. I saw some dudes across the street doing it completely different and it looked like s***! I did mine the way that you did yours and now everybody wants to hire me! Hahaha thanks for the knowledge buddy keep up the good work🤘
Thanks 🙏🏽 I am going to buy leather gloves and the utility blade you showed in this video. I have a pool and my Mexican 🌴 palm trees will look real nice skinned and I see what a great job you guys did.
I do mine the exact same way. Except I use a very sharp machete for the left over hairs. 2 or 3 swings I have on side clean. I only use the regular razor knife when I get near the top, when the branches can no longer be pulled out. Then I make ring cuts as I make.my way up. Makes the palms look majestic. I do the best palms in the entire area hands down.
Thanks Mr. Benitez. Got 2 big palm trees in front of my house that I need to maintain out here in the Sun City of El Paso. The trees look nice after properly trimmed. This video helped a lot and is very educational. Thanks!!!
I love your work dude I've been a trimmer in ohio for 6 years and have plans to move to Florida in about a year so wanna learn as much about palms and taking care of them good work
Great job, I do it the same way, but throw all the debris in a tarp for easier clean up. With a couple people you can carry it all to the trailer or pile it up for the grapple truck quickly.
Great post video, and fabulous demonstration. You have inspired me to go and skin my Washingtona palm, here in Dublin, Ireland🇮🇪, as there are no expert palm trimmers like you here🙄 So glad I came across your channel 👍 thank you👍👌
Well done! A solid instructional video for the uninitiated like me. I am going to give this a shot on the half dozen palm trees on my property. Thank you gentlemen.
Thanks for the video. I am adding A&L to my contacts list. Buying a property and I was just curious how this was done. You’ve earned my future business.
Thank You Mr. Benitez for a great instructional video I will definitely use you technique when I skin my palm trees. You and Daniel have great work ethics.
Great video.. Thank you. I am considering having a local pro do this for my one 20 foot palm. I've seen his work and he is meticulous using the techniques you demonstrate. He says he stops before the area where the tree becomes 'tender'. I am in an extreme fire risk area in Northern California and am thinking of having this done to reduce the places where embers can become lodged. Dead palm fronds are insanely flammable. Thanks.
You should use tarps around the tree to collect leaves and debris. Then gather with ropes from the grommets on the tarps to haul out lots more with out using your hand bundles. Cool video!! Learned a lot!!
Great work & attitude! "Do it right or not at all!" That work ethic will ALWAYS make you stand above the competition in your customers eyes & will earn you respect and referrals!
Thanks for the Video. Very informative. I have to place a bid on doing this at a hotel they have 27 palms on the property they need booted. Just trying to determine how I should go about pricing this job.
In the tropics, the majority of palms never need this type of cleaning because they shed their leafstalks completely and smoothly, on their own. In the western desert, however, you have only a few palms available for cultivation that can endure the extreme heat, and they don't cooperate with those who want them to be neat and not stubbled.
This video was awesome. I love how you mentioned at the very end how you didn't trim the tree but only skinned it. I'm guessing you mentioned that because the pruning job was unhealthy. That tree should have more of a lower hanging canopy. It was over trimmed. But the skinning looks amazing. I pride skilled workers in any line of work that take pride in their end result. Too many people these days just don't give a fck and are about trying to take short cuts or screw a customer. Unfortunately management is the cause of that a lot of times. When you have your own business, your reputation walks and in some cases you don't even have to advertise as your quality stands out and people's word of mouth keeps you busy. Good stuff.
@@ilonaloha1 you shouldn't prune the fronds past horizontal as they still have essential starches the palm is still relying on. Also by pruning too hard it deforms the future trunk at the height which the head currently stands and can cause it to produce more seeds/flowers which can be a nuisance (currently "assisting" my partner in his ARB trade certificate book work)

Thanks for sharing your knowledge you make it very easy and FYI. I lost my left dominant hand 10 years ago so I only have a right hand now and I'm doing it by myself with one hand and it's the easiest thing to do the way you do it thank you.😀
I have a tiny little Mexican fan palm growing. Can you show us how to take care of a small one? How to cut the fan leafs (sorry not sure what to call them) prune them I think I read. A couple of years ago some neighbors chopped down his big tall beautiful palm tree and I was saddened to see it go because I loved it. So I strongly believe my little palm is growing from a seed from that tree. I want to take good care of it.
The palm usually lets you know when you’re skinning too much because as you skin, you’ll notice what you’re taking off, is the dry “bark” when you skin, and it’s wet or moisturized, that’s a sign you should stop. Hopefully that helps

Thank you for this video. You taught me so much within these 15 minutes. Your pride and professionalism is outstanding. Thank you for what you do!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏽🌴
Do you have proper saga palm pruning techniques?
Because they are so small, I rarely have to prune them. So I don’t have any videos for sago palms at this moment
@@mr.benitezhimself ok thank you. Figured they are pruned with the 9-3 technique still with proper cleaning of the trunk.
Nice job! I do it the same way with the Sabal palms here in Florida. I tell the customers to stay away from the people using chainsaws to skin it.
Agreed my friend 🌴
