Thank you for putting these videos up sir. I a guy that likes to learn new shit. And I just wrapped my palm with rope lights but with all the old fronds it looks so uneven. If I skin it the way u just taught me I bet it will look amazing thank u sir.
I have 8 palm trees and did the skinning by myself. It is tedious, but hard too, especially the very tall ones. Whew!!! Then the cleaning and disposal.
@@Itz_RinoRyry Including the cleaning, it took me 5 days, working a few hours a day. First, I was inexperienced and wasn’t sure what blades worked best. I found out that utility blades worked well, so I stuck to them.
I saw a dude here in San Diego the other day he started from the top and was easily pulling off dead palm skins. Why not start at the top and get the easy stuff off and then knife it clean?
From my experience, that only happens when the palm tree is neglected. So it has over 5+ years of dead growth on the palm. In that situation, The safest way is to start from the top, down. Not in my case. The majority of palms in Las Vegas aren’t neglected.
Yes you can. But you use a chainsaw for the canary palms SHAVING a Canary palm into a "PINEAPPLE" (STIHL 151t) th-cam.com/video/_XQE2VZxjwc/w-d-xo.html
I tried and failed. I’ve got about 3’ of “hair” left behind. The bark didn’t come off nearly as easily as that tree. My tree is only 10’ - 12’ tall, maybe it’s too young to skin 3’ off the bottom?
@@mr.benitezhimself I haven’t even really started to use the blade yet. I just pulled off the loose bark which beyond a half dozen or so we’re not not really loose. The result was a lot of tearing up the first 18’ to 24” off the bottom. I’ve got a couple of different carpet blades. I’m having more luck with the replaceable razor blade one. Fewer trips to the grinder to sharpen the blade. Frankly, scissors may be better option until I can actually see what I’m cutting with the knife.
@@mr.benitezhimself I put in another 1 1/2 hours with the utility knife and switched out the blades a couple of times and just about got it all cleaned up. All-in, four hours to take it up 20” but I learned a lot. The bottom was the worst part. I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead. Thanks for the video!
@@brianjohnson4802 I don’t ever sharpen them. I just flip them (if there double sided blade) and use it again. As soon as I’m done with that blade I toss it out and replace it with a new one
@@brianjohnson4802 I see you got the hang of it though! Switching blades the second they become dull is key. But yeah it’s tough work. I’ve been doing it for 3-4 years now… ive come to love this work
I tried to just do maybe bottom third of my palm tree and holy hell its work. These pros on youtube made it look easy
Nice job. You make ot LOOK easy.
I appreciate you

Greetings from Las Vegas 🌴
Do jelly Palms need this skinning as well ? My palms look like it cant be done 😢
I need to skin mine. How far out do you recommend I set the blade? Is 1 cm safe?
What is the point of doing this? Is it cosmetic only or some other reason.
Aesthetics and to avoid infestations
Nice work man keep it up and how long did it take you to finish up that palm tree. 💪🏾💯
Not long 🌴
@@mr.benitezhimself like an hour or two hours?

You can purchase the blade I use here amzn.to/3FzdgEE
This guy will be there a year
2 years 😂😂
How often does it need to be skinned? I have 8 palms trees and they are pretty tall as well😫.
Unlike trimming your palms, once you skin your palm. You never have to skin it again
That a sable palm?
Mexican fan palm
Washingtonian
@@mr.benitezhimself thanks man, palms be looking way to similar
Can you use a grinder instead of a blade to smooth it out?
I wouldn’t recommend it
how too hire you?
I am in Las Vegas, Nevada. Are you a local ?
Is there a mechanised way instead of the blade. Like an attachment to chainsaw engine?
The million dollar idea 💡
Aren’t you supposed to leave it on to protect the tree?
Not if there an infestation
Can’t u use a chain saw to make it easier on that part?
Come to Phoenix so I can hire you to skin my palm 😭

How much do you normally charge for these type of jobs ?
It all depends on the palm and many other factors
Can this be done to a Canary Island Palm?
Yes you can. But you use a chainsaw for the canary palms

$20/hr

No this was a while ago
not hard but very tedious
Agreed.
Whatd you charge for these ?
A couple hundred idr
I use a sharpened garden hoe. Remove the fronds and scrape the tree vertically with a hoe. It's faster than your razor knife.
That’s very good for you 👍🏽
Yeah I don't think a garden hoe would work you don't know what you're talking about
Asking for a friend… Why are you wearing a helmet?
PPE
my god thats alot of work. you better charge 500 per tree for that shit.
