My 2017 T8 inscription has been quite good tbh. I've covered almost 60k in little under 3 years. I'd most probably purchase the new shape when it's released. This base shape has been around for around 5 years now. Still a great 4x4 and complies with ultra low emissions through London.
I've owned many Volvos from the late 80s to the 2013 XC90. I still view it as a Subaru type car. Still don't view it on the same level as a BMW, even with the new models. We had a mid level new XC90 as a loaner, it was nice, but not amazing.

My only thought on that, is it would interfere with the ability to get to the back row of seats. That could be remedied with some engineering. I have the seven passenger version and trying to get into the back row by sliding the seat forward is very tight.

Disappointed to see you bash the most premium level XC90 for its price. Why not mention that the T8 qualifies for a $5419 federal tax credit? Brings MSRP to about $82k. Hardly cheap, but still lower. Compare it to a similarly equipped GLE450 and you’ll find it’s a bargin. Unsurprisingly, Luxury vehicles command premium prices. If you can afford one, great. If not, that’s ok too. If you simply choose to not spend your money on a pricey premium vehicle, that’s also fine. Just don’t bash based on price. This video, especially it’s title, looks like you are simply creating click bait. This video is beneath your usual standards.
I optioned the Volvo and the GLE as I would if I were buying them. The Volvo was more expensive...by a lot. Sorry, but no. The GLE only became more expensive when I put the off-road engineering pack along with the E-active body control, but that gives the car so much more insane cool features and comfort. Nope. The Volvo is no cheaper than the GLE.

This thing is awesome! It drives itself! We rented one from the dealer and went on a 800mile rd trip. On the highway you can set it to drive itself all the way up to 85 miles an hour it was unbelievably good. I have a Tesla, it did as good of a job on the highway as the Tesla for driving itself.
I love our 2019 XC90 T6 Momentum. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that I wanted but i kept it under $70K. I would consider another one when my lease is up.
I will also look at the Range Rover Sport but my lease isn’t up until January 2022. I almost went that route earlier this year but I was having a hard time getting over the monthly lease price of just over $1K. I can afford it but something about paying $1K per month on a vehicle seemed crazy. We’ll see what happens when our lease is up.
I love my 2019 XC 90 inscription I picked it up in Sweden and drove it to Norway, Denmark, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Austria and Switzerland and I tell you I will do it again in a year or two my wife and I had a great time. The only option I didn’t get was the high end stereo. And my car was $64,000.00 before taxes, total out the door was $70,461.00 because it is cheaper to pick it up at the factory. Volvo flew us out there for free, Picked us up at the airport and put us in a hotel for the night and gave us dinner all on them. If you can plan the trip I highly recommend it you will not be sorry.
I'm very much in the market for this vehicle. One HUGE problem is the lack of arm rests in the second row. We test drove a T6 Momentum, and my kids were looking for them. They don't exist! What an absolutely idiotic omission.
Forget the T8 and go for the T6. You still get 316 hp and add the Polestar option and you get 340 hp and 310 pound feet of torque. With all the options listed on that T8 the T6 will msrp around 77K. Buy it thru Costco and take a lot off of that. Much more affordable.
Last winter had to replace a vehicle. Drove both the xc 90 and xc 60 series. Given the price points, I couldn’t even begin to realistically consider all these high priced SUVs. But hey, we could have bought a fully loaded Vee dub Tiguan for $44k and ‘saved’ money. Instead, bought a vee dub Treg TDI and kept the extra $64k in my bank. Crazy prices. Regardless of price, I like how the Treg drives vs the xc 90. Sigh.
I'm looking at a 2020 xc90 right now. Gas, no electric. How has the turbo/supercharger setup faired over the years? Offhand it sounds like too many extra parts for the very small mpg gain over a V6. Makes me nervous. Do they all have 3rd row? I like the captain's chairs but when we take the dog on long trips I'd like a bench seat in 2nd row. Is there anything you can get to bridge the gap? The price really drops off on these luxury vehicles after a couple years. I guess some of the folks buying new swap out every few years.
I will have to say, just because you don't have the money to splurge on the top of the line fully loaded luxury SUV, is no excuse at all. You don't need half the stuff that you mentioned, the electric option doesn't really help all that much, if you check the mileage is still nearly the same as one without, but it does give you a tremendous amount of HP when combined with your gasoline engine. (I believe 400 hp. The T-6 options with a handful of the premium options will still set you up for a great ride.
You'd be surprised what you can get in a T6 Momentum if you like the XC90, loaded with all the tech and heating options you can get them pretty cheap if you haggled
Me neither. We bought a 2018 XC-60 T8 Inspiration and the Mrs loves it so much we are going to trade in the Subaru (2016) for a 2021 or 2022 XC-60 T8 Inspiration. The XC-90 is too big, we don't need three rows. For a car guy you sure did not think this through.
I just bought a 2020 V90CC T6 for 49. Don’t add all the options. I didn’t need a $4K stereo or expensive air suspension which will be a maintenance liability.
The whole reason I searched this car review out was because I keep getting little advertisements for it that I wondered were clickbait. They show that the front passenger has enough leg room to completely elevate the legs, and had some sort of built in foot rest to essentially “recline” and put your feet up....I am now disappointed...😕
My thing is that this has a transverse-mounted 4 cylinder engine with a complicated array of boosting components and a hybrid system that questions the reliability factor that Volvo was known for once

My mom is going to buy this car. We need the space for sports and the traveling we do. Plus, you're getting 5 grand off for tax credit or whatever, which'll bring it back down to like 80k. Still not cheap, but it's an amazing price considering it's competitors. And it's so quiet too. I went in one of these at an autoshow and I heard close to nothing outside of it. Sure you might get the same thing with it's competitors, but I've been in a GLE and i cant say it was on the same level as the volvo....
Have our 2021 on order. Loaded! Dealer gave us 3k off plus the tax break makes it an awesome bang for the buck! Can't wait to get ours, gets delivered in 2 weeks!
Since that would be the case with ANY car of that price, it tells us only about your financials and nothing about the car - so it shouldn't be included in a review. If there would be equally good and equipped X5 for less money ...or for the same money, but that you would buy, that would be another story. But that isn't the case here.

Yeah your right mate ,I like the xc40 but the mid spec here in Australia is 55k a lot for a small car, but its just way too expensive and thirsty, there's a lot still sitting in the dealer ships and you don't see that many on the road even though it got car of the year here . just to expensive for what it is lovely car though and if I had the money I'd definitely buy one.

Volvo is building a new battery assembly plant alongside its existing factory in South Carolina to support a line of EVs in the U.S., ncluding a forthcoming all-electric version of the next-generation XC90 crossover, Automotive News reports. The battery plant is part of an additional $600 million investment Volvo announced in 2017 for its 2.3 million square-foot plant near Charleston, where it currently builds the S60 for global markets and is adding a second line and training facilities. The existing plant will similarly become the global production center for the third-generation XC90. Construction on the new plant, which will test and build battery packs, carriers and harnesses, is expected to start this fall and wrap up in time for the launch of production of the new XC90 starting in 2022, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston. The XC90, Volvo’s top-selling model in the U.S. and No. 3 seller globally, will move to a new version of the Scalable Product Architecture platform, or SPA2, for its third generation. The second generation has been around since the 2015 model year and rides on the first version of the SPA platform. The timeline would make the XC90 Recharge, as its battery-electric cars will be known, Volvo’s third EV, according to its plans to release a fully electric vehicle each year over the next five years. In October, Volvo revealed the XC40 Recharge, its first electric vehicle, due later in 2020. It has two electric motors powered by a 78-kWh battery pack that delivers 248 miles in range on a full charge, based on the more generous European WLTP testing. It’s built on the same modular CMA platform as the gasoline version of the crossover. That leaves an as-yet unidentified EV for 2021, and there are reportedly no plans to make an electric version of the S60; a Volvo spokesman said he could not comment on other specific models. The Momentum has more than enough in terms of features, stick with that. Just leased the 2021 & love it; one of the best all round SUVs on the road at the moment.
Test drove this and the Hyundai Palisade Limited which is 47k. This is more refined a bit better quality but the Palisade beat it many areas. Make your own choice but I'm buying the Palisade.
$87K... for an average American who work 9-5 like myself, I am going to get one 2020 Highlander for the wife and then get one 2020 Pilot for myself. If I hit a lottery or my boss, somehow, wants to double up my wages then sure... I will get an XC90 :).
Ditch the leather, ditch the air suspension, ditch the bling bling chrome trim stuff, ... But, 360 camera and HUD is like a must! Always miss that in other cars (i have a V90 where we selected and tested the add-ons with grate care to get as most value as possible).
Dave headed to test drive XC90 next week, really looking forward to checking out lease numbers. Also going to check Lexus RXL, trying to choose between the two.
We own one and have been very disappointed. Do not buy this car. Some of the parts wear out quickly (particularly brakes that go bad in just 15k miles). The worst part is, Volvo does not stand behind their product, even with an “extended warranty.” Anything that goes wrong on this car is like a trip to the emergency room in terms of cost. Windshield replacement? $2k. Lose your key fob? $500 to replace it. It would seem that having things go wrong on this vehicle is actually a lucrative profit center for Volvo.
Foot activation trunk doesn't work on most.. 🙄 There are lots of nice features but rides like a Ford f550 with no cargo💥. 😞. The inscription upgrade and bowers stereo is not worth the money.

Dave, I completely agree with you on every point. Ive had my 2008 S40 for 12 1/2 years. And probably give it to the kid next year at 16. I’m currently looking at luxury SUV akin to XC90. Ive been looking at the GLS 450 and for 85K I’d get more for my money with the MBZ. That price point is not enough to motivate me to stay with Volvo for this market share😐. I’m thinking MBZ GLS 450 or new the E450 AWD wagon.

Too bulky for my taste, don’t need 3rd row seating, gimmicky 4 cylinder - turbo, super & electric, too much to breakdown, start stop feature stinks, not a fan of the huge iPad in the dash, and they’re pricing me WAY out, pass! I’m very happy with my 2016 V60CC with a real 5 banger in it, noisy as hell, and very fun to drive!
Don't kid yourself. Rich Asians will buy these by the dozen. LOL I bought a 20% off demo 2018 V90, loaded with the 316 HP. Then I drove it thru 8 provinces and 20 states. I thought my Cr300 250 had oomph. LOL My BIG peeve with the V90 is the side mirrors. They should be about 15mm lower on the door, farther to the front and thinner off the top. They block half the side view. I wouldn't mind the windshield and tailgate having a bit and a lot less slope. And there doesn't seem to be an off for the temperature control or an adjustment for feet first heating. I soon got tired of fighting the lane position it wants. It's great that it doesn't nag me about not using the seat belt. It does nag you if you go over the line too many times. LOL. It is very hard to crash with the radar, in the summer anyway. Even in the snow it goes straight as an arrow when I stomp on the gas with the summer tires. Not much snow this winter yet, so I'll risk the first year taking it very easy on turning and stopping.
I'm interested in getting this car for my wife BUT I would only lease it. These so called "luxury" vehicles all have a history of breaking down (unreliable) and expensive to repair...except for the Lexus vehicles.
I think you must have different supply chains in The USA. Here in Europe Volvo and BMW are renowned for reliability. VW, meanwhile, is well worth avoiding.

Unless your Kia Telluride has a Level 3 autonomous hands free driving system, it won't drive itself. Volvo has a Level 2 Pilot Assist which allows hands free driving for up to 10-15 seconds before it alerts the driver that hands on steering is required. Does your Kia Telluride have an automatic hands free self parking feature like the XC90?

I also own a 2017 Volvo XC90 T6 R-Design that's fully loaded (with Pilot Assist 2, the auto hands free self parking feature, 4 corner air suspension, Bowers & Wilkins premium audio, real carbon fiber interior, heated windshield) and I've had no issues with it since I got it in 2017.

My seven-seat T6 has an armrest with cup holders that folds down in the center of the second row. If you use it, you just can’t use the middle seat.
The Volvo XC90 is an iconic vehicle. Great engineering and build quality. Easily a top tier SUV when compared to others. Enjoyed the video.

Me neither. We bought a 2018 XC-60 T8 Inspiration and the Mrs loves it so much we are going to trade in the Subaru (2016) for a 2021 or 2022 XC-60 T8 Inspiration. The XC-90 is too big, we don't need three rows. For a car guy you sure did not think this through.
This is dated now - you can get a 2021 very nicely optioned for under 60k now with incentives. Many of those options now come standard.

I just bought a 2020 V90CC T6 for 49. Don’t add all the options. I didn’t need a $4K stereo or expensive air suspension which will be a maintenance liability.
The whole reason I searched this car review out was because I keep getting little advertisements for it that I wondered were clickbait. They show that the front passenger has enough leg room to completely elevate the legs, and had some sort of built in foot rest to essentially “recline” and put your feet up....I am now disappointed...😕

My thing is that this has a transverse-mounted 4 cylinder engine with a complicated array of boosting components and a hybrid system that questions the reliability factor that Volvo was known for once

Volvo has never been in greater shape than before. They sold well, they can finally go all out on their cars like they did when Volvo was owned mostly by Volvo AB. The design, the engines, the quality, the engineering, has never been better.
My mom is going to buy this car. We need the space for sports and the traveling we do. Plus, you're getting 5 grand off for tax credit or whatever, which'll bring it back down to like 80k. Still not cheap, but it's an amazing price considering it's competitors. And it's so quiet too. I went in one of these at an autoshow and I heard close to nothing outside of it. Sure you might get the same thing with it's competitors, but I've been in a GLE and i cant say it was on the same level as the volvo....

Since that would be the case with ANY car of that price, it tells us only about your financials and nothing about the car - so it shouldn't be included in a review.
If there would be equally good and equipped X5 for less money ...or for the same money, but that you would buy, that would be another story. But that isn't the case here.

Yeah your right mate ,I like the xc40 but the mid spec here in Australia is 55k a lot for a small car, but its just way too expensive and thirsty, there's a lot still sitting in the dealer ships and you don't see that many on the road even though it got car of the year here . just to expensive for what it is lovely car though and if I had the money I'd definitely buy one.

With real estate prices going up and a car that always decpreciates, there's really no comparison. But by that logic, you should ever buy a car or anything for daily use.
it's for folks making mega bucks. talking about 400k+ incomes who already have a lot of investments and just want to enjoy life. not many in that elite circle but they do exist. know some lawyers who easily fall into that category.

Volvo is building a new battery assembly plant alongside its existing
factory in South Carolina to support a line of EVs in the U.S., ncluding
a forthcoming all-electric version of the next-generation XC90
crossover, Automotive News reports.
The battery plant is part of an additional $600 million investment Volvo
announced in 2017 for its 2.3 million square-foot plant near
Charleston, where it currently builds the S60 for global markets and is
adding a second line and training facilities. The existing plant will
similarly become the global production center for the third-generation
XC90. Construction on the new plant, which will test and build battery
packs, carriers and harnesses, is expected to start this fall and wrap
up in time for the launch of production of the new XC90 starting in
2022, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston.
The XC90, Volvo’s top-selling model in the U.S. and No. 3 seller
globally, will move to a new version of the Scalable Product
Architecture platform, or SPA2, for its third generation. The second
generation has been around since the 2015 model year and rides on the
first version of the SPA platform.
The timeline would make the XC90 Recharge, as its battery-electric cars
will be known, Volvo’s third EV, according to its plans to release a
fully electric vehicle each year over the next five years. In October,
Volvo revealed the XC40 Recharge, its first electric vehicle, due later
in 2020. It has two electric motors powered by a 78-kWh battery pack
that delivers 248 miles in range on a full charge, based on the more
generous European WLTP testing. It’s built on the same modular CMA
platform as the gasoline version of the crossover.
That leaves an as-yet unidentified EV for 2021, and there are reportedly
no plans to make an electric version of the S60; a Volvo spokesman said
he could not comment on other specific models. The new battery plant
will help Volvo source its batteries more cheaply than transporting from
elsewhere to South Carolina, reports say.
Currently, Volvo offers plug-in hybrid versions of the S90 sedan, XC90
and XC60, plus a B-badged mild hybrid variant of its XC90.
The company has said that every new model introduced after 2019 will be
either a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full-electric vehicle, with a new EV
launched every year. Each version offered with a plug will come with the “Recharge” model branding.

those type of comparisons never hold any water. I bought gas at age 16 for 59 cents per gallon, I just bought some yesterday for $ 2.39.
The Momentum has more than enough in terms of features, stick with that. Just leased the 2021 & love it; one of the best all round SUVs on the road at the moment.

Test drove this and the Hyundai Palisade Limited which is 47k. This is more refined a bit better quality but the Palisade beat it many areas. Make your own choice but I'm buying the Palisade.

Not a fan of the 4 cylinder in this size of a vehicle. You can really hear the loud hum when hitting the pedal. Okay in their smaller models.

$87K... for an average American who work 9-5 like myself, I am going to get one 2020 Highlander for the wife and then get one 2020 Pilot for myself. If I hit a lottery or my boss, somehow, wants to double up my wages then sure... I will get an XC90 :).
Ditch the leather, ditch the air suspension, ditch the bling bling chrome trim stuff, ... But, 360 camera and HUD is like a must! Always miss that in other cars (i have a V90 where we selected and tested the add-ons with grate care to get as most value as possible).
Dave headed to test drive XC90 next week, really looking forward to checking out lease numbers. Also going to check Lexus RXL, trying to choose between the two.

We own one and have been very disappointed. Do not buy this car. Some of the parts wear out quickly (particularly brakes that go bad in just 15k miles). The worst part is, Volvo does not stand behind their product, even with an “extended warranty.” Anything that goes wrong on this car is like a trip to the emergency room in terms of cost. Windshield replacement? $2k. Lose your key fob? $500 to replace it. It would seem that having things go wrong on this vehicle is actually a lucrative profit center for Volvo.

$87K for a 4 cylinder car is ludicrous,doesn't matter if it is super AND turbocharged,for 87k it should have a V8 if not a robust V6.
dont drive it on salted roads, gravel, or mud.....its not a real car, its a pristine jewell, and so are modern pickups.
It's a Volvo, it should be durable in rough conditions.. or else Volvo has strayed.
T6 is still good choice, not big difference compared to E-hybrid T8

Foot activation trunk doesn't work on most.. 🙄 There are lots of nice features but rides like a Ford f550 with no cargo💥. 😞. The inscription upgrade and bowers stereo is not worth the money.
So you state you won't buy the XC90 because it's too expensive at 87k and then go on to say in the title you won't be buying an XC90? Who's making you buy the top of the line with all the gizmos? You said it yourself it starts at 48k.

Dave, I completely agree with you on every point. Ive had my 2008 S40 for 12 1/2 years. And probably give it to the kid next year at 16. I’m currently looking at luxury SUV akin to XC90. Ive been looking at the GLS 450 and for 85K I’d get more for my money with the MBZ. That price point is not enough to motivate me to stay with Volvo for this market share😐. I’m thinking MBZ GLS 450 or new the E450 AWD wagon.

Test the road noise with a meter, also test the internal temperature with that giant sunroof no cover. Yikes! Good looks & that's it. So disappointed almost bought it until I drove it. BTW it rides like a truck!
Too bulky for my taste, don’t need 3rd row seating, gimmicky 4 cylinder - turbo, super & electric, too much to breakdown, start stop feature stinks, not a fan of the huge iPad in the dash, and they’re pricing me WAY out, pass! I’m very happy with my 2016 V60CC with a real 5 banger in it, noisy as hell, and very fun to drive!

I bought a 20% off demo 2018 V90, loaded with the 316 HP. Then I drove it thru 8 provinces and 20 states. I thought my Cr300 250 had oomph. LOL
My BIG peeve with the V90 is the side mirrors. They should be about 15mm lower on the door, farther to the front and thinner off the top. They block half the side view. I wouldn't mind the windshield and tailgate having a bit and a lot less slope. And there doesn't seem to be an off for the temperature control or an adjustment for feet first heating.
I soon got tired of fighting the lane position it wants. It's great that it doesn't nag me about not using the seat belt. It does nag you if you go over the line too many times. LOL. It is very hard to crash with the radar, in the summer anyway. Even in the snow it goes straight as an arrow when I stomp on the gas with the summer tires. Not much snow this winter yet, so I'll risk the first year taking it very easy on turning and stopping.

Only the back of the seat reclines back or forward. The two front seats can move forward or back completely independently though.
I'm interested in getting this car for my wife BUT I would only lease it. These so called "luxury" vehicles all have a history of breaking down (unreliable) and expensive to repair...except for the Lexus vehicles.
I think you must have different supply chains in The USA. Here in Europe Volvo and BMW are renowned for reliability. VW, meanwhile, is well worth avoiding.

Unless your Kia Telluride has a Level 3 autonomous hands free driving system, it won't drive itself. Volvo has a Level 2 Pilot Assist which allows hands free driving for up to 10-15 seconds before it alerts the driver that hands on steering is required. Does your Kia Telluride have an automatic hands free self parking feature like the XC90?
LOL all these Korean haters. The Kia does not have self-driving but the alert system has a lot of range. It will hold value much better than anything on the road that's not a Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, or Kia. Every car reviewer is raving about how good it is but these random youtube commenters think it's trash. LOL They probably drive a Fiat, Skada or a Chongfeing.

What 3rd world country do you live in where Fiats, Skodas, or Cheinfengs (or whatever the heck that is) are commonplace? I'm a big fan of Kia/Hyundai products by the way. The Telluride and Palisade are arguably the best in their class and I'm eagerly awaiting the Genesis GV80 debut in the next few months. I also own a 2017 Volvo XC90 T6 R-Design that's fully loaded (with Pilot Assist 2, the auto hands free self parking feature, 4 corner air suspension, Bowers & Wilkins premium audio, real carbon fiber interior, heated windshield) and I've had no issues with it since I got it in 2017.
