That's like saying: Why make food from scratch, just buy a frozen ready meal, it's both food. Weighing, light WDT to break up the clumps and then tamping do make a big difference, as it gives the coffee the best chance of being evenly extracted which leads to a better flavour, less bitterness and a better texture. These insane "routine" videos are usually just nonsense. @@talhasayed4898
The only thing you should do is use the tamper that is INCLUDED with the machine. You don’t have to do anything else and then you will get bad but not terrible espresso
Hey man as someone works with coffee everyday yeah you don’t really need all that stuff. Unless you really wanna get into the weeds of coffee lol The only thing I’d say is actually necessary is the tamper! Without tamping you just get this coffee flavored tea pictured in the short. Etherway drink the coffee you want the way you wanna drink it. Much love 🫶🏽✌🏻
the crema is missing. tamping may have fixed that. most other steps are to prevent channeling, which you won't see with this basket. sprits of water are meant to prevent the coffee grounds sticking to the grinder due to static. it won't change final result. just less cleaning. WDT can be replaced with shaking the basket. leveler is just OCD. and many other tools are as well.
Yeah... I was fine with it not having additional accessories but not using what came with the machine was excessive. I could've forgiven the lack of measuring the beans and grounds and maybe even the leveling but the tamping that's where I draw the line. This is like getting in a car and just driving, you don't need the seatbelt to get to your destination. The evidence is also in the swill shot.
@@simonyou6440 I was about to say a lot of coffee shops don't even use a lot of tools just a tamp. So yes you can tell the difference if it's not even tamped.
I could care less if he used the other tools, but tamping your espresso is very necessary. It's a big part of extraction because it makes sure the water doesn't just go straight through and actually applies pressure to the espresso. Just my two cents 💕
This is outrageous Gully. Fair enough, you dont need all the things you mentioned, but some of them make a massive difference. You can 100% tell the difference between a well tamped well extracted coffee vs what you pulled. Also, choc mint is fire. No cap.
choc mint taste bad bro, it taste like toothpaste with chocolate together. i remember drinking that for the first time and it was not great until i put alot of milk into it. plus you gonna waste 1 hour just to make a perfect coffee. if you taste different flavor for it, that means you are addicted to coffee aka coffee nerd who post it on Instagram or youtube or any media social. (tbh i am just saying that. i respect your opinion but i gonna tell my opinion anyways)
Ok but grind Zoe, timing your shots, redistributing and tamping ARE necessary to get a good shot of espresso I mean those are the basics. The rest HELP but the first ones I mentioned are KEY. And honestly if you’re spending $700 on a nice espresso machine you should atleast learn how to use it and make decent coffee 😂
While I mostly agree with you, misting beans, and using leveler has been game changer for me; I get shots that are less bitter, more balanced and thicker crema. Though I always use scale. And I use cheap blade grinder with shaking to help have less diverse grind.
“It doesn’t make a difference” is something a person says who hasn’t tasted GOOD properly extracted coffee. It blows my mind sometimes when I drink black well brewed coffee that tastes like blueberries when I’ve added no flavouring
As a barista ,trust me its essential for the best concentrated flavour of coffee to do the necessary work ,doing it like that you get an uneven steap makes the coffee taste more watery ,we tamp the coffee grounds for even distribution to extract all the coffee out of the grounds makes it taste more bolder ,you dont need to airade the grounds thats useless and the better you grind it it more coffee out of a coffee puck the better
I agree that if you like coffee the way Starbucks makes it then you can absolutely make coffee this way. Cover the horrible taste with tons of milk and sugar. I pulled a shot today of a light roast that I only had to add a 2 teaspoons of natural maple syrup (not even one with any added sugar lol) and was able to enjoy the shot straight. No milk necessary. It was fruity like a tea! An experience I never thought I could have with coffee. It took all the "unnecessary" tools and steps you mentioned (yes even the jazz music lol) on my manual espresso machine but it is absolutely worth it. I understand to some it isn't. I honestly just wanted to show this side of the hobby. We aren't just drinking coffee, we are finding the absolute excellence in the bean and the experience. 🤷🏻♀️
The grind size is probably the only thing that you need to worry about because there's some tasty tasty flavours in your coffee beans that go so well with your milks and syrups and stuff that can only be pulled out if you get the best grind out of your beans for that machine!
You don’t need all the accessories for sure, but if you don’t tamp you don’t build the requisite pressure during extraction…so what you made wasn’t technically espresso, it was a very short filter coffee. No shade if that’s what you enjoy, though!
I think the ten thousans accessories is unnecessary but if you want a consistent product and are using expensive coffee, some form of measuring, distributing, and tamping should be used. I’m not saying you need 5 million things but a scale, a wdt, and a tamper are really helpful tools to keep your shot always tasting great.
You may think a wine connoisseur maybe bougie but when they can narrow a wine down to a country a region or even an estate that that grape was grown for that wine that should tell you that palettes are able to determine much more than just the basics. I don't do all the work that some of these other people do on TH-cam when making a shot of espresso, but I definitely Tamp. I definitely measure out the beans. The machine needs to be dialed in to pour the proper shot. But whatever floats your boat.

Bro that shot looks horrifying 😅 tbf there are some tools that don’t actually change too much, the leveler before tamping for example. But you didn’t even tamp, or distribute the grounds with the WDT tool, and this makes a massive difference as you didn’t extract the coffee properly. That’s why it looks watery af
