COINTELPRO 2? FBI Targets “Black Identity Extremists” Despite Surge in White Supremacist Violence

- democracynow.org - A leaked FBI counterterrorism memo claims that so-called black identity extremists pose a threat to law enforcement. That’s according to Foreign Policy magazine, which obtained the document written by the FBI’s Domestic Terrorism Analysis Unit. The memo was dated August 3, 2017-only days before the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white supremacists, Ku Klux Klan members and neo-Nazis killed one anti-racist protester, Heather Heyer, and injured dozens more. But the report is not concerned with the violent threat of white supremacists. Instead, the memo reads: “The FBI assesses it is very likely Black Identity Extremist perceptions of police brutality against African Americans spurred an increase in premeditated, retaliatory lethal violence against law enforcement and will very likely serve as justification for such violence.” Civil liberties groups have slammed the FBI report, warning the “black identity extremists” designation threatens the rights of protesters with Black Lives Matter and other groups. Many have also compared the memo to the FBI’s covert COINTELPRO program of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, which targeted the civil rights movement. We speak with Malkia Cyril, co-founder and executive director of the Center for Media Justice as well as a Black Lives Matter Bay Area activist.

The fix here is easy, but difficult because racial minorities unwillingness to change the rules of the "racist" game. Dealing with these issues in terms of racism is continuing in dualities, i.e. us/them, friend/enemy, good/evil, which will never change things for the better. What would I abandon "racism" for? When the Nazi war criminals were tried at Nuremberg, were they charged with racism, or even with empire building? No, they were charged with "Crimes against Humanity". American blacks need to let go of their racial designation in a sense. They need to identify with the whole of humanity, and see the problem in terms of "Crimes against Humanity", which is a global problem. Someone who is seeking justice for the whole of humanity can't be called a "black identity extremist". Game Over. It needs to be seen that Martin Luther King Jr's Dream® was NOT that blacks be seen as having shit that doesn't stink. All human beings have the capacity to manifest man's inhumanity to man. Whether its the Jews in Israel - the last people you would expect to manifest man's inhumanity to man - being inhuman to Palestinians, or whoever, we are all capable of this inhumanity. And the only possible way to evade participation in that inhumanity is to recognize one's own capacity to be swept away into it. As long as blacks do not first and foremost identify with the whole of humanity, any effort to change the situation will have the same level of success as in the past. As Einstein said, to change things for the better, we need to use another way of thinking than the one that got us into the current situation...
