    If I may resolve the confusion, Predator X and Liopleurodon are not the same animal. Predator X is actually a species within the pliosaurus genus known as Pliosaurus funkei. Both Pliosaurus funkei and Liopleurodon ferox are classed as pliosauroids. However, Liopleurodon ferox is slightly smaller at around 6 meters in body length, whereas Pliosaurus funkei can attain body lengths of 12.8 meters.

    @AceofDlamonds 4 ปีที่แล้ว +166

    "Predator X" is Pliosaurus funkei. It's believed to be from mid 30s to 43 feet, making it one of the largest pliosaurs ever.
    In fact, it rivals probably most C. megalodons in length (not girth of course). But that should give it a huge bite.
    Trivia: Liopleurodon ferox was massively oversized by the BBC and some other programs. They hyped up it's size....still pretty big 30 feet or so....nowhere near the sizes described in the documentaries.

    • @bkjeong4302
      @bkjeong4302 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      P. funkei was a bit under 9m actually. The largest species of Pliosaurus was the 9.7m P. macromerus, and the title of largest pliosaur is up for grabs between a few other truly giant pliosaurs (none getting much over 11m however).
      Liopleurodon was only about 6-7m long, the length and weight of a great white shark.

      Ways that Megalodon can beat predator x
      -its more agile
      -it has the FIRST strongest bite force alive or extinct
      -megalodon would crush it's bones and predator x can't even bite it's torpedo shape body
      -it eats stuff bigger than itself like whales unlike predator x here who would rather eat stuff 7x smaller than itself
      Ways that predator x would win
      -by ripping it's fins off and hoping it would die of blood loss

      @kwalterrasquinha413 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@franco22123 Okay since you're keen on fanboyism, let me put forward the facts of predator X vs megalodon
      A large Predator X according to wikipedia is 10-13 meters and 30-40 tons.
      A large megalodon according to wikipedia is 15-18 metres and 50 tons.
      Right off the bat the meg has a decent size difference
      Then you notice that predator x preyed on pleisosaurs and squid, stuff far smaller than itself.
      Megalodon preyed on whales, even leviathan at times and usually on baleen and sperm whales, stuff much larger than itself and it had the jaws built to do so.
      Megs jaws were as wide as a school bus and had the strongest bite force in history, to take huge bites out of even bigger prey.
      Look at predator Xs jaw. Its conical and smaller, perfect for hunting smaller prey. There's no way the predator x is getting its jaws around the much bigger shark, while 1 bite is all megalodon needs
      Then there's speed. Even today modern reptiles are no match for sharks in terms of speed.
      Then there's the final nail. The predator x needs to breathe while meg doesn't..that means no matter how long the predator x holds on, within 40 min it has to go for air exposing that beautiful belly and then, its game over.
      Hope you understood.

Sure, Walking with Dinosaurs gives the dinosaurs more of a personal touch but that's to be expected because it mimics nature documentaries, whereas Planet Dinosaur is more of a forensic analysis/investigation series.

    We got lucky. All the extremely deadly predators like megalodon, mosasaurs, predator x dunkulosteus , and liopreradon all went extinct . Now what's left are predator like the killer whale and the great white. Don't get me wrong, there both deadly but not extreamly deadly.

      Actually, C. megalodon coexisted with various predatory whales. It outlasted them all. And not until 5 million years after the extinction of the megashark could orcas take their place as whale slayers.
      Being a mammal does not make you superior.

    • @bkjeong4302
      @bkjeong4302 8 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Megalodon went extinct well after the extinction of the raptorial sperm whales but before the evolution of orcas. It wasn't outcompeted. Unless whales are capable of time traveling that is.
      Also, eagles, crocodiles and sharks are apex predators, more successful than most mammalian predators, and I'm certain none of them are mammals.

      Taming a Pliosaur is impossible, forcing one not to try eating you while you ride it and even find a way to harness it is very hard, but not impossible. Being not much intelligent also means they are extremely predictable. You can cut it from external stimuli and input your own for instance.
      But again, what is the point of spending so much on riding a giant reptile if you can fire missiles armed with nuclear warheads from submarines?

    Dated, Pliosaurus funkei was more likely around 10 meters long, and although we have a preserved flipper stretching 3 meters long, based on other elements of its skeleton (which is far from complete), it doesn't seem to be any larger than other giant pliosaurs, including other species of Pliosaurus. Here, it's shown with proportionally very small flippers but Jurassic pliosaurs typically had rather large flippers, and P. funkei might had unusually huge flippers even for its time.
