BMW e30 Head Gasket Replacement HOW to : part 1 Removal

  • In this video, I pull the head off the E30 to fix a blown head gasket. not only the head gasket was blown but the head also cracked from overheating too long. No power tool needed to do this job. Make sure you label all the parts and bolt so you know where to put it back.

    I have an e28 M20 (525eta) and sweating a lot of oil. Ordered Elring gasket and will be doing this job soon. Never did this before:)

      These older car is a lot easier than newer car... very straightforward unlike newer car with all the electronics and vacuum line

      you dont even need power tool to do this job

      @@mechanicslife24 thanks I'm into the next phase timming belt and putting the head together from the mech.shop putting the rails in .do the rails go in one way. And the oilers in the railers have a special place to oil the cam and the lifters . Thank you for your time I'm doing this for a home care worker as a favor she takes care or old people and wants a bmw and can't afford to own one and with your help it will be done i work on old ford's and 7.3 big blocks my first bmw with your help

      @@richolden4070 the rail for rocker arm? Both side r the same front back, intake exhaust. Once they go in they only sit one way(u will need to rotate until u can put retainer clip in)

      @@richolden4070 make sure u have something under the head when u rotate the cam gear the valve will hit the table

    When I try and remove the cam gear the sprocket wants to rotate with it. How can I get the sprocket to stay still?

      1.Have u remove the timing belt? If not u can use the crank bolt to keep it still..
      2. If the belt is removed. U can use a pryer and a bolt ...put the bolt in the head and pryer to wedge against the teeth.
      3.impact gun
      **Becareful not to let it spin or u could get bent valves
