Transiting the PANAMA CANAL on our Sailing Catamaran! ⛵️

- This week, we take you along for our Panama Canal Transit. We’ve been dreaming of checking this off our bucket list for years! 🙏🏼 Despite many reported delays, our transit date was moved up eight days. We scrambled to get the boat and our crew ready on such short notice. We hired two local professional line handlers and rented long, thick lines and giant fenders. Our Adviser arrived early in the morning, and we immediately got underway! We rafted up with two other sailboats for the first set of locks, crossed Lake Gatun, and then went through two different rafting configurations for the remaining locks, ending with our boat alone in the center of a lock as the doors opened into the Pacific Ocean. 😍 We celebrated once we got the anchor down and reflected on our experience…

Wow super interesting video. I love the smiles when you got to the Pacific. I had already looked up the canal and was familiar with some of the issues. We'll done. As always be safe and have fun

Thank you! ❤️
Enjoyed the video
Thank you!
Congrats on the transit! I went through many times with the US and Royal Navy, and hope to with my own vessel! It is always a successful transit when you leave nothing but stress behind - no rub marks, no fenders,....
It’s a fascinating process! I’d imagine it’s a completely different experience on a Naval ship…
Such a great video! Sitting g in Shelter Bay now awaiting our transit on Monday! It was great to watch your experience so our crew knows what to expect. Thanks again

That's all you have this week????? That is a ton of good info and video evidence of a great how-to‼️🙌🏻 Love this episode. A keeper for when it is our turn......perhaps you may be available to help out....at our expense, of course. 💪🏻🤭 See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🇵🇦🌴 👙🌞✨
Glad you enjoyed this one! Reach out to us when the time comes… who knows what we’ll be up to😉
Fastest transit I’ve seen. I hadn’t seen a same day transit. Seems like quite a race across the lake. Looking forward to the crossing!

We were thrilled to get a one day transit! The lake was much bigger than we realized though, took ~5hrs at 8kn…
I’m supposed to transit the canal next month in a similar cat. Do you mind letting me know how much you tipped your pilot and line handlers?
We gave everyone $20 each! They didn’t want to accept, tips are not expected, but we insisted. All our other costs are outlined in our blog post if you’re curious :) We hope you have a smooth transit!
Thanks so much.
Of course!
@@HollyandRay I've enjoyed your journey. I'm under contract to purchase the boat and will be closing once we get it through the canal. Will be sailing back to Florida from there via Cartagena.
That sounds so exciting! What kind of boat?
Where is the info on the actual transition, costs, etc. I went to your blog and did not see it.

@@HollyandRay Thank you. What payment methods are used as we are talking thousands?
@Mordalo we paid our agent online with a credit card!
@@HollyandRay For everything other than the tip? (I am trying to my ducks in a row for later this year) Lagoon 450F I am buying. in FL.
@Mordalo Correct! Welcome to the Lagoon owners club😉
Why aren't they pumping the water uphill when the gates fill/flood? Problem solved. That'll be $350,000,000. Venmo me...
Haha! The lakes are fresh water and supply drinking water for Panama City and Colon, so I doubt they’d want to pump water from either ocean, up…
@@HollyandRay Makes a bit of sense but pumping sea water up part way and then desalinating it would be a good move too...
