Hi Thanks for the video. I just received the newer version of the q20ii with the rechargeable transmitter. However my sony a6400 doesn't detect the flash when mounted on the shoe. I don't understand if it's because the mount of the transmitter is not the right one or any other reason. Could you please help
Does it not trigger the flash? It only works in single pin mode anyway, so it should still work regardless. Unless the ii does ttl and has more contacts?
@@WesPerry no, it doesn't. The icon of the flash doesn't appear on the camera. You are right, it has just a single pin with no ttl. It's strange because yours works and I believe the a6000 and a6400 have the same hot shoe. I might need to return this as well 🙄 Thanks anyway
I have two if the Flash Q20 units, and I wouldn't call them mind boggling impressive, but rather, mind boggling convenient! For small product photography, they're great, for portrait, well maybe not so great, as they're under powered, there is no HSS, and they're a PITA finding a diffuser to work with them due to the nature of their build. One other thing worth noting is if you use two units simulataneously, you cannot set separate flash power wirelessly to each unit, what you set for one, will set for the other. You would have to manually set a different power output on the back of one of the units, then fire both with the transmitter. I think the biggest plus for these is they can be put just about anywhere!
Great video thank you. I know less than zero about flash photography so I have one question if you don’t mind: what goes on the camera and at the bottom of the flash: the transmitter or the receiver? Thank you.
I got the Flash Q20 ii yesterday. Impressed by some videos, the design seemed very smart to me. Unfortunately it worked only a few minutes. Since then the transmitter doesn’t remote the flash anymore. Very disappointed.
You said already warriors it’s all of the revolutionary and frustrating at the same time I like it a lot I think it serves three different purposes all in one small tiny inexpensive product definitely worth a try
That’s a tough one. I assume you could still flip the fresnel head straight up like on the Q20, and then insert it straight into anything. Something like an S2 bracket and then a foam block or the like to hold it in place might work for getting it into a Bowen’s mount.
On a a6000 is there any setting to activate the hot shoe?. My unit does not function on the Sony connected , or wireless?? but works on the 5D & ?? bad Sony a6000?!!...open box from best buy! However you mention digging out the hot shoe , whats that all about.?
Yeah, for some reason Sony painted the universal hotshoe contacts on the a6000 (the black version only), so it often doesn’t make contact well with Canon or Nikon hotshoe devices. You’ll have to take some sandpaper and scrape the black paint off the spring-like arms on the sides of the hotshoe, careful not to scrape the contacts at the far end. There are some TH-cam videos on it. It seems like a super crazy thing to do, but lots of people have done it with no issues, and then it works.
Just pulled it out to check. At 1/4 Power it’s about 3 seconds. And it’s super inconsistent. Anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds. At 1/1 Power it’s around 6 seconds. This is using freshly charged eneloop batteries.

@giosueciamei3362 when you’re using single pin firing the flash icon usually doesn’t appear regardless. It’s a “dumb” connection.
I have just ordered one after watching your review. Thank you, Sir, for the demo.

Neat product. Good comprehensive review. Good to see that it works on a Sony A6xxx (with reservations?). The music was fine.
There’s a new version out now with rechargeable batteries...this video is pretty old 😉

On the camera is the transmitter. This flash has a built in receiver :)
@@WesPerry Thank you for your time.

Does it need to be recharged? I haven’t tried the version ii yet.
Wes Perry Had the same idea, but recharging didn’t help. I‘ll send it back.

Can you recommend a mini softbox that will work with the Q20II...? It doesn't have a "beak"...it's flat at the front...appreciate your idea on this...

Cheers, very odd I, had to do the something similar on a Fujifilm X100.... Thanks again.
Hi
Is it capable of trigger AD200
Nope
Did you manage to get the trigger to work with the other flash plus the flashq? How would that slave system work?
I would need a Canon or Nikon flash to do it, and I just don’t, so it’s probably not gonna happen 🤷🏻♂️
what was the recycle time of the Flash Q?

No câble Just trtiggger with yungnuo, godox.... Petfect. Cable OK with ad200 (no hotshoes)
Light has no threads for mounting on a stand and pointing DOWN ....dumb Great idea just not very well thought out
I have a bunch of adapters that came with my AD200’s that let you move them around pretty easily. Similar units can be had pretty cheaply on amazon.

Indeed.
