Only CSX is under the viaduct. Northfolk Southern runs parallel to US 11/5. Once you cross the viaduct CSX also runs parallel to US 11/5. CSX has an intermodal facility at the old Pullman facility is Bessemer were they used to make rail cars.
Did you know that at one time, US 11 came into Bessemer from the SW via Ala. 216 and 4th Street SW? It's an interesting ride from Tuscaloosa to say the least.
I just traced that old route on a map from 1947, running form Tuscaloosa almost to Bessemer. That's the only map I can find that has that route clearly marked. It looks like they did some drastic realignment as soon as they cut I-59 through there.

I had always wondered what the Bessemer Super Highway was really like.
Kind of a disappointment by our standards of today.
US 11 is mostly bypass by interstates at times.
