    Mike, keep an eye on the birds. I had a bad toss and the ones that came back late (I think) brought some sort of virus. To date, I had 17 dead pigeons. They came back throwing up

      Rota virus

    • @blackfleet1111
      @blackfleet1111 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely if your pigeons are ybs they are infected with adenovirus once they come home from a toss or a race vomitting and having diarhhea. Young pigeons would not last for a week if infected while yearlings can recover. In our country, all races are prohibited until now to counter the spread of these viruses, PMV, One eye cold and the dreaded Avian Flu. Transport of birds are not allowed and in some areas ranging or releasing from loft is not allowed. Import/Export are also not allowed. Always clean and disinfect your loft. Prohibit visitations from other fanciers and no flying will be the best solution and do not overbreed. Just sharing

    If your training the birds to get used to the timing pad why not put it in the loft on the other side of the traps that way the birds get used to it on race days .Here ln the UK you would be disqualified for having the electronic system on the outside of a loft .

    • @Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons
      @Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard that other countries the timing pad has to be on the inside of the loft but our only rule here is the pad needs to be on the loft. So we put it in front of the trap to make sure that the birds clock in when they go in for a drink. also some birds change their mind on going in after they reach the trap but I still have them clocked in. Thanks for your comment my friend.

I don’t know, but I noticed that one of my birds Was acting like he was throwing up but he wasn’t throwing up nothing this was this afternoon but I never saw him do it again just one time I never saw him do it again I checked on him before in the evening and he’s fine what you think he can possibly have a coming onto something can you help?

      There’s no way for me to tell why your pigeon was doing that but I know some of mine acted that way on very hot days when I used to feed corn. The corn was too heavy for some of them. Other than that just make sure they are wormed and have fresh clean water available at all times. Best of luck with your little guy 🙏

    I know you were doing a combined toss but if you release your birds in smaller groups like 20 at a time then wait 10 to 15 minutes after they disappear before you let the next group go you will have less chances of the birds in the back of the group hitting power lines and barbed wire fences and they will be less enticing for falcons versus a real big group of course single tossing is king but not everyone has all day to do that or even groups of 5 is good to makes the birds think for themselves that way they will leave the flock first on race day to head home instead of circling and circling with the big group for 30 minutes or more

    Mike just so you know we have a big problem with returns here at the club many members me included have a sickness with birds we don’t know what hit them looking at your birds I can see they have the same open mouth and confused look to them we was thinking it may be a young bird sickness but is beyond that we try different medication the one it work the best is amoxicillin 10 % better 20% in the water for seven days it clear it out slowly I was out for two weeks from the races but I’m shipping tonight Saturday for Sunday .
    We had the same problem like you very slow returns on long tosses most come in the next days just passing the info to you something is going on we really don’t know what it hit the birds just to let you know .
    We me included lost minimum amount of birds with this sickness have a good racing season.

    Birds are way too skinny, especially the dark check at the end who returned with it's mouth wide open and it's wings draggin. They have no fuel reserve in their tanks to make the trip.

    • @Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons

    • @ausfuhrpramienjagar
      @ausfuhrpramienjagar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons .. Good deal. Birds store fat for their energy reserves and if they have no fat in storage, as soon as it is depleted during a race or when strenuous flying is in order for any length of time, the body starts using and burning away muscle to replace the fat fuel in their bodies. Hence the reason why you feed distance birds more fat containing seeds for the last couple of days before basketing to a race. You can do the same thing for middle distance as well, it won't hurt them at all and their muscles will benefit from the extra fuel reserves that they store a couple of days before a race, especially if it's gonna be a tough one with a headwind or hot weather.

  • @mjhound

    Probably got stooped on by a falcon and scattered of course I've had coopers and goshawks chase in the air like a falcon too they will probably show up later scattered I've got a sharpshin bothering mine every few days, if you have skinny birds feed them raw unsalted sunflower kernels/hearts or raw spanish peanuts and plenty of good grit especially if you are flying them a lot minerals are very important the more you fly the more minerals they need minerals are the building blocks of the body all health depends on minerals more than any vitamin they get their vitamins from the food, sometimes even play sand is helpful in them getting what they need remember wild pigeons and doves spend many hours a day on the ground picking up minerals as well as food let them eat dirt it's got minerals in it, it won't hurt them as long as it's not contaminated dirt you can burn the dirt over fire or heat it in a dutch oven or any oven to burn off any contaminants before you give it to them my birds love eating the store bought play sand, small gravels from riverbeds works good also. When you do the dark system that takes a lot out of your birds mineral wise
