It took me 2 rewinds when you mentioned the wood paneling on the dash to actually see it. It looked as if the very close in color leather material was just reflecting off a giant piano black screen. Other than that with any other interior color like black i’m sure the wood pops.
The new Tiguan's interior is stunning (for a VW). Unfortunately, VW didn't get the memo about piano black plastic. At least it is used sparingly but in an area that will be scratched-and-fingerprinted a lot.
The current PHEV Tiguan is front-wheel drive only. If you can live with just FWD, great, but I think VW should make a 4Motion eHybrid Tiguan. As the Multivan in Europe now has an eHybrid 4Motion option, this makes me hope they'll include that in the Tiguan.
I just bought the 2024 R line and I like it more. Fender Audio, more Euro looking, like the rims more and think the front grill looks better. Oh, and traditional shifter and not the one on the column where the wipers should be ;)
Why the hell cant they put buttons ?? F#$%, do they realize how hard it is to operate touch with gloves on in -25 deg ? The screen wont even come on at that cold temperature.
wow, I am thoroughly impressed. the current Tiguan is blandly styled, inside and out. the interior feels pretty cheap too. this is a very welcome improvement!! definitely curious about the pricing to see where it falls against the competition. also, 3-person memory isn’t very common in this class to begin with (in fact I don’t know a compact crossover that offers 3-person) and then to also offer it on the passenger seat is awesome! a lot of luxury cars don’t even offer passenger seat memory.
Liked our 2022 Tiguan SEL Premium R-Line a lot. It had the most comfortable back seat with lounge-like room. I like a lot of what they did with the new one except did I hear you right that the rear seat no longer reclines??? 🤯 Why not???
Absolutely worst decision to remove the recline and sliding for the back bench. There have been so many situations where more trunk space was required or more legroom was appreciated with our 2018. Suspect it's a cost cutting measure with the third row removal making it redundant as a bandage excuse. Overall usability lost with the new update
I often feel that Andrea is spot on. But I cannot agree about the passenger memory seat. I feel this is just another example of excess. Power seats are nice for the passenger. But I feel memory is just over the top excessive complexity. Anyway, it's a pretty car, and a very good review. Thanks to Zack and Andrea for the consistent high quality content!
My wife and I would love the passenger memory seating buttons. This would be a plus for us we are often swapping and changing almost daily who is driving and so to be able to have memory settings for both driver and passenger would be a nice touch.

The new Tiguan definitely is a hit on the looks; however, some great detail of the past Tiguans is missing. The felt lined door pockets of the German counterparts is missing and the recline rear seats with track moving feature is gone. These kind of features made the Tiguan a standout from the competition and will be sorely missed. In addition I would hope that VW has plans for true R model with more performance and driving engagement. A true R model would also give VW a standout option against the competition in this class and an alternative for consumers that want a premium compact SUV without going to an Audi, BMW, Mercedes or the likes there of. Overall it’s solid start particularly if it has the solid driving dynamics of its German counterparts.

Thank you for your feedback, I admit it is a personal preference. For me, column shifter is a deal breaker. I am glad that there are options on the market to meet everyone's needs and preferences.
Still no brake hold feature. Or auto hold as it is also called. Nice for bumper to bumper traffic to give your leg a break from having to constantly putting pressure on the brakes. Everyone else has this. What’s up with that.
