She wasn't the lead in the film. but she stole the show, and has done so in suicide squad also which was panned, but everyone agreed she was the only good thing in it. I had only seen her in neighbors (Australian soap -shown in about 5 countries) then I saw her in Pan Am and thought, that's Donna from neighbors, that got cancelled. Then I didn't hear of her for a while and then Wolf of Walstreet landed and she became a household name. While I agree Gal got a meteoric rise I wouldn't put it in the same league as Robbie's because the character Gal got mega famous from would have made anyone mega famous because the character was so big, It's like saying the cast of Kids from Harry Potter had a more sensational rise than Macaulay Culkin, and Gal had also been in multiple extremely popular big budget movies previously that have a huge audience, whereas Margot really came out of an Ozzy soap, a failed tv series and one movie led to mega-stardom.
I am absolutely in love with this woman after watching this interview. Looking beyond her beauty, she is a completely genuine person and it warms my heart to see smile. Especially when she received her gift, it was the most genuine reaction with true happiness in her eyes.
She didn't become a celebrity over night, she worked really hard often doing crappy bar jobs & retail for 2 years, she's learnt survival and been recognised for hard work and beauty.
