Half a lifetime ago I owned a 1965 DS19 with the 2.0L engine, disc brakes, hydropneumatic suspension, a little button for a brake pedal and the iconic single spoke steering wheel. Long stroke, low revving engine that took half an hour to get to peak revs in top but it could propel the car to 100 MPH and it often did on late night, early morning trips up the Hume Highway here in Victoria, Australia. Way before it's time.

Always love seeing DSs in Melbourne. Currently driving a similar-era Peugeot 504 (74'), also in Victoria, AUS. Despite an advertised top speed of 180kph back in the day, 3000rpm at 100kph is a very strange experience indeed - needs another gear maybe. Even so, owning and driving it every day in my early twenties is a pleasure.

One of my most popular lobbies in GT5 was iirc a 125pp hill climb event, there was that one half circuit-half rally track that had a massive 100ft elevation change and when you're in a car with like 50hp suddenly it becomes a hill climb, people would come with all these custom tunes, raw 50hp NA beasts, 37hp turbocharged mini-cars oh it was a blast!

I miss those races in GT7. Races with like all kinds of cars; maybe restricted to when they were built or where there come from - like Europe or Asia. Would mix up some races with some cool sights and tunes.
GT needs to make alot more with the GT Sport part, I think. Gr 3&4 just isnt enough. This game offers so much variety in cars. Maybe even include the GT Vision ones.

Slow races are underrated imo. You really build race craft and circuit knowledge, and the close quarters racing in my view compensates for the lack of speed, it becomes all about the fine detail. Gonna give this one a go in VR tomorrow 🙂

25 years ago I owned a DS for some years. Still remember her for the super soft suspension, perfect weight distribution for a front drive car (because of the engine behind the front axle). Very little understear. And quite noisy inside ...
The very big disc brakes were mounted at the gearbox, not at the wheels. Instead of a pedal there was a tiny rubber mushroom. The brakes worked with the high pressure hydraulik of the suspension and was much better then most of the cars of that era.
What looks different in the game: the air suspension was softer and with little dampening. The rolling in the corners was much bigger. Under acceleration the butt of the lady went down and at braking up. In the game this all looks quite modern and neutral.
A very remarkable car. I'm still happy when I see one. Even in a game :-)

You learn valuable lessons in slow cars, Grand Turismo was always king in teaching those to it's racers.

I recently discovered (late, I know) that there is a Gran Turismo World Series but was disappointed to find that every race is for fast cars and there's none for slower cars. I find that racing slower cars in games like this, the Forza games and others is much more fun that racing fast cars. Fast cars are fun too, but races with slower cars are more fun. They don't get a look-in at the GTWS, though.

I love that this car's been added. I walked past one of these at the weekend in similar condition to your car in this video only probably less driveable, not a common site in the UK (In fact it can be seen on Google street view if you go to the junction of Doctors Lane and High Street in West Meon. Maybe a Super GT viewer has the resources to buy it and give it the love it needs :D)

Car is a living legend, famous for the hydro shocks system.
I bet you hardly felt the kerbs stepping on them, even the highest one

There's 3 different types of racing classes in every game:
Top tier, where you wanna have the best brakes so you stay fast longer. earlier on the throttle wins the race.
Slow cars, where it's imperative to stay at speed through as much of the track as you can since acceleration doesn't happen instantly.
Everything in between is a compromise between these.
And then there's sometimes Offroad races where it's about ramming people at the right time

This is actually the kind of driving I like: this is it, deal with it. Modern racing cars, they’re all good. Some differences but they’re all up to snuff, basically. Especially with bop, if it’s done right.
Roadcars, especially the classics, you need to deal with them. Find out the peculiar things they’re good at, or not good at, and find a way. You can’t just go in and expect compliance, you need to respect them. That’s my real passion, and that’s why I like lobbies over onlines any day of the week

My all time favorite car. 1st car I ever rode in. Dad had a dozen or so from 60 through to his Citroën SM he got in the late 70"s. Hopefully, your views pick up. I shared it with a FB Citroën group.

I'm very glad you're back to posting without VR, hope it sticks. Yes it might be awesome and realistic for the player, but for us, a bit dizzying. Also my pet peeve, I could not see your power-brake inputs and radar etc. clearly. This is much better for.learning from you.
