The examiner who was well known for extremely picky and harsh on marking bowed to the 19 year old and ask very kindly of him to please reinforce . Rachmaninoff later is not happy about the version written so he revised it in later the 1910's.
Rach was a mad man, he crushed every piano composer before him. Why not #1? Hmmm... he is everywhere, guys and girls. 2, 3, 4 and Paganini. No need to choose I think.

This concerto is unbelievable, but number too is better and number 3 is the hardest musical piece ever written for piano and also very beautiful.

Ashkenazy is great but the recording of this concerto (which he loved) was perhaps Rachmaninov’s own best.

ashkenazy with previn is true work of art, not this
