BRAHMS: Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra in A minor op. 102 / Toscanini
This is a ponderous, very idiosyncratic and AFFECTED performance. Very disappointing.
Looking at the works on that disc, that's quite a programme. Emil Gilels with Piano concerto 3. Wow.
I knew John Barry admired the Russians, Shostakovich and Prokofiev in particular. But I always suspected he had a taste for Dvorak, as did Sir Alexander Gibson and Sir(?) Vernon Handley. Can someone confirm?
This is so amazing from start to finish, such a descriptive performance
il punto più alto mai raggiunto nell'arte della musica dalla notte dei tempi!
Not sure why Bruckner removed it from his canon. In some ways it's a better than symphony 1. I can see why some conductors include it their cycles..
선곡 넘 좋은데 업뎃 기다립니다👍👍
The clarity of his playing is absolutely incredible, given how long ago some of this was recorded. As a pianist, I note the same for recordings of Josef Hofmann amd Sergei Rachmaninoff. These artists had greater command than many of today's.
Super merci
Even in this early 1954 RCA hi fidelity recording you can tell the great acoustics Orchestra Hall had before the infamous 1966 renovation to install air conditioning destroyed the resonance and luster and was called by the Chicago Tribune "An Acoustical Calamity". How could they have been so stupid?
That wonderful flute player was principal flute Ernst Liegl. What a beautiful solo color he had!
The record cover is the mono version.
[0:00] Allegro con brio [7:17] Andante con moto [16:16] Allegro [20:54] Allegro
I have posted these words before, but it has been discussed in qualified circles that Dennis Brain was/is the finest performing musician in history for any instrument. In the horn world, he stands far above the finest players in the field. And he did it on the instruments of another generation. The horns of today are far superior instruments.
People say that he's the best horn player ever. Realistically, he may be the finest performing musician in history. This idea is not new.

Next I will listen to the recording of the Mozart piano concerto
A lost culture.
I should add, not only do I just enjoy it but I have for over 60 years, and never knew better. Musical beauty is in the ear of the listener.😊
By far my favorite rendition of The Messiah. Fortunately, I don't know enough to know what's wrong with it so I just enjoy it.
선곡쵝오♡
Coments like "it's completely wrong" BUT "it's really good." My, God! It IS wrong and it is NO good. Plodding. boring and the orchestration is like a really bad joke. Like walking through hot tar in cement shoes.
To me - the greatest violinist ever to take a breath or draw a bow…
Rubenstein in top form.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper!!
Where is the aria "Mache dich, mein Herze, rein" ?
This is the angriest “Reformation” Symphony that I have ever encountered! One can imagine Martin Luther nailing his Ninety-five Theses to the church door with vehemence. You are reminded of the countless bloody conflicts the divorce from a corrupted Roman Catholic Church brought about. Maestro Maazel and the Berliners should be proud of this one. It makes other versions of this under-appreciated work seem tame by comparison.
Otto Klemperer, Wilhelm Furtwängelr......and the master himself, Karl Richter performed the St. Mathew Passion for eternity!
2:10 A secret entrance opens for Link 🛡
very measured and grand, as it should be played
I was already a fan of Reiner and his magnificent Chicago orchestra, but when I heard this recording in 1966 it blew my mind. And still does!
Thank you for uploading this stunning piece. Hovhaness Symphony No. 2 is such an amazing work. Love Hovhaness in general also. Thanks again. ❤
Grandios....Mr. Janis had this clarity and cleaness in his Interpretations- I also believe his Arthritis shaped and added a somewhat edginess to his playing...I admire his courage and mental fortitude as Mr. Janis played in constant pain..it is as if he physically attacked the piano with pathos and a techical prowness and ending the performance in triumph!!! Byron Janis has transitioned and his bout as a passioned performer with crippling Arthritis is an inspiration to all...we are blessed to have these recordings....
❤️🎼
Bravo! Bravissimo!
Staggering performance
Stereo recordings were still relatively new when this came out & further enhances the stature of this monumental composition. A special plant in our living room ˋlistens ´ to this work once a week when being attended to which will sound silly to some but who knows what it really can absorb besides liquid refreshment? 😊
Such a beloved recording… I have adored this for four decades … nothing better than the pacing, pathos of the third mvt
Wow. He fair flies through that first movement. The version i have takes 24 minutes. This is exciting.. How it should be..
The time stamps are completely wrong.
Que belleza
Goosens orchestration is amazing. Can you imagine if Berlioz or Mahler had orchestrated this?
Muchas Gracias.
Господи!Само совершенство!И музыка и исполнение!!!
