There have to be some trade secrets! Haha seriously nothing rocket science. Just ply or MDF, whatever is to hand. 9mm base and ends, thinner for the pelmet and back.
Hello again! I have been enjoying your videos over my lunch breaks in the last week or so - may I please ask what colour paint you used for the backscene in your description of the baseboard early on at around 1:13 ? I have some aerosols I'm looking to mist together but I'm just curious.

It's a paper backscene, single piece over cast sky, from ID backscenes
What is that loco you have pictured in the thumbnail for this video?
It is a Heljan Class 07 in the private owner livery of Powell Duffryn IIRC.
