%100. He's a painter and possibly also a sculptor I think I heard. Every role he has ever taken he just smashes out of the park. Lord of the Rings would have been his retirement fund, and everything else he does for the artistic value (not that Lord of the Rings isn't amazing & he was superb as Aragorn...no one else could have played that part).
DarkWandererAU A painter he is, not a sculptor (as far as I know of) but also a poet, a photographer, a musician, and a publisher (he owns he own press).
DarkWandererAU It’s called Perceval Press (percevalpress.com). You’ll find his own books and CDs there ofc (lots of collabs with Buckethead) but also loads of other works. Regarding his art and poetry you can look for “Viggo Mortensen’s art” pages on FB, twitter and Instagram, you’ll find samples there. I personally love his poems and photographs
I have never seen a contemporary actor inhabiting his characters to such a degree. Hidalgo was hidalgo, Alatriste was Alatriste. Never for a moment did I think it's an actor in a costume, like when I see Will Smith or Leo DiCaprio. Even when I saw Elrond all I could think of was Agent Smith.
I would have liked him to start his Aragorn speech:''Sons of Hollywood! Of the film industry! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me....''! lol
"Viggo Mortensen says that there's no character he wouldn't play" Yet he was going to turn down Aragorn until his son told him to take it. And I'm super glad he did.
I think what makes Hugh Jackman, Hugh Jackman is the sincerity with which he absorbs these pearls of wisdom. Saw his interview on Grahan Norton with Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart and his focus was astounding. Viggo is a legend, on and off screen.
Viggo was the most badass Satan in a film to me. He stole the show in The Prophecy. Yes, De Niro and Pacino were good as well, but Viggo knocked it out of the park. Truly sent chills down your spine in that role.
this entire room is just so captivated by this man's gentle and honest nature, as am I. Some show it more than other though, it's a wonderful thing when someone makes you feel like honesty is a virtue because we (me&hugh obviously) are so used to people being superficial and acting according to the rules of PC or playing the social game without any real examination of what's truthful or real to us. everyday robots
I think the Indian Runner will always remain my favorite movie of all time...it was the first time I'd ever seen Viggo act and he blew me away and he is absolutely nothing like that character and think that is a testament to what a good actor he is
Viggo Mortensen is an extraordinary man, incredibly intelligent. He has been exposed to many cultures, lived in different parts of the world, he is fluent in 7 languages. I was blown away by him speaking perfect conversational Spanish. In spite of all his attributes and his physical beauty he remains a family man, moral, friendly, and humble.
I've been a fan of Viggo's ever since The Indian Runner. I love ALL of his work, and he deserves to win a damn oscar already!! Please stick around, Viggo! I feel you've been out of our lives for too long. You are an extraordinary person!!! Much love!!
Viggo's answer at the beginning was so well articulated. What he says responds to so much that resonates far beyond the constraints of the initial question. Well done!
Viggo Mortensen is the greatest actor ever. His talent is just out of this world but unfortunately we do not see him a lot. He deserves so many Oscars but usually they go to someone else who may not deserve them. Viggo is just beyond any Oscar.
Viggo Mortensen is a genious actor and a humble wise man. "Captain Fantastic" and "Green Book" are films that expand the reality, the ways of thinking and feeling about the reality. In the "Green Book" you just feel the taste and smell of that kentucky fried chicken, and how that picked jade stone feels, you live through the story with him. It's very rare precious experience. I has just watched the "Green Book" again.
Hugh Jackman's face is like he is so interested in Viggo's story and i love that cause , Hugh, Viggo, Keanu Reeves these guys are my childhood love them forever all 3 of them so humble and great actors
An other amazing underrater actor. What a range he has. And does accents so well. In Carlito's way,he had nailed a Latin American accent so well.I often watched the scene with Pacino where Viggo plays "Laling" And in Eastern Promise,he was totally a Russian. A terrific actor...
Oh man why!! Why did I read this comment. Now everytime I see the new dune I'll be thinking this. Viggo would have been perfect. The few cast members I'm not too excited about in the new dune are oscar isaac, zendaya and Jason mamoa.
Producer: "Wait a minute so you're telling m..." Viggo: "Yes, I'd play any part" Producer: "You'd play any part that I..." Viggo: "Yes" Producer: "So If I told you i'm thinking about..." Viggo: "For christ sake, yes" *First day on the job of 'Hitler: A Comedy'* Viggo: "Do I really have to say 'Anne Frankly I wish I'd found her sooner' whilst twidling my moustache?" Producer: "You said you'd do anything" Viggo: "Give me my moustache"
What a sad waste of time for you to write this, almost as sad as that you would hear what he's trying to say and get this from that. What a pessimistic life you must lead.

VIGGO.....He is smart and extremely talented as an actor...JUst Love Him..He is so Real..and being italian american ...he really got it in the movie...
If we were living in a society that had truly overcome racism to the degree that you almost never even thought about race, Viggo would be absolutely free to play Othello. The fact that he expresses discomfort at the idea tells us how far we are from that goal.
I wonder if the round table was filmed before or after the screening and Q&A of “Green Book” where he said an inappropriate word. I liked the film. Glad both actors were there to talk about it! Thanks, again, for the content!
He used the "inappropriate" word in the context of a question. Mahershala Ali has defended Viggo for using the "inappropriate" word on every chat show he's been on.
If he was a black rapper noone would care if he said it...double standards..how can you discuss a words impact without actually saying the word ..but nice try on racebaiting
That movie sucks though. The plot is so stupid. Aren't you?? *convincing no* Ok. *Doesn't believe him for a second. Only a moron would think this would work out.
Incredible talent on this table......but Viggo and Timothy standout on this table. Viggo for his humbleness and well known intellectuality, Timothy for his sensitiveness empathy and smartness
One of the most underrated actors of our generation. His body of work is amazing!
