Viggo is one of my favorite humans. My grandma worked at an airline and talked to Viggo a number of times. He never accepted any upgrades in his flights, always insisted on flying coach and not being treated specially. Humble man.
It's funny that they brought up Lord of the Rings as being fake, because someone accidentally threw a knife at Viggo while they were filming a fight scene. He deflected it. With his sword.
@@ahmetkurum4114 It's literally in the BTS footage in the extended edition of the LotR DVDs. The actors made these claims themselves, lol. The trilogy was full of injuries on set. When Sam goes into the water during Fellowship to chase Frodo in his boat, Sean Astin stepped on a piece of glass that cut his foot really bad. In Two Towers, when Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas were sprinting across Middle Earth to find Merry and Pippin, Aragorn had two broken toes, Legolas had a cracked rib, and Gimli had dislocated his knee prior, and even loses his shoe while he's running. The toe thing is even more awesome once you find out the story behind it. They filmed the scene where the hunting trio go to the burnt bodies that the Rohirrim piled up after their night raid on the Uruks, and when the trio is led to believe that the hobbits are dead, Aragorn lets his emotions out and kicks a helmet. Peter Jackson wanted Viggo to kick the helmet as close to the camera as possible, but Viggo kept missing, so he had to kick it over and over. On the very last kick, he gets it, but that's when his toes break, so the scream he lets out as he's dropping to his knees is out of pain, and that's the cut they use for the movie. Everyone thinks that Viggo had adlibbed and extended his scream, and they don't find out about his broken toes until after he tells them. Viggo could've stopped the scene as soon as he felt the pain of breaking his toes, but instead he used it to further bring out Aragorn's emotions.
@@ahmetkurum4114 Why? It's true. Watch the extra footage on the DVD's. Both of those people's comments are true. Elijah Wood's Hobbit sized double told Viggo he couldn't swim while they were canoeing down the Anduin. Viggo woke the Fellowship cast up early to go fishing, they also went camping. Viggo broke a tooth filming the Battle of Helm's Deep and had to be convinced he needed to see a doctor rather than continue filming. Viggo would greet other members of the cast, particularly the Fellowship and stunt team, by headbutting them.
At first I was like - he must be joking. And then I started noticing little things he'd add to the story and the ending, so I kinda came around to it. And then I realised it was Viggo freaking Mortensen and I completely believed in this story
He's one of a few individuals in Hollywood who's actually educated, genuine and has his own point of view, not a cluless clown like the majority of celebrities. Much Respect to him 🖖
+teppolundgren well that's your loss. The man is an incredible director. What does it matter what he does in his free time? Is he a personal friend of yours? Stop being silly.
It amazes me each time I see Viggo that the first time he was in his first motion picture he starred with Harrison Ford in WITNESS. He looked so young. But as I see more and more interviews on him and read more stories on him, he is an amazing man. I just bought HIDALGO, a very wonderful movie he made. I've seen only parts of it. In the finale of the movie, I saw him release HIDALGO into a herd of Mustangs after all the amazing adventures they had shared in Africa. I HAD to get the movie so I could see WHY he did that. I was stunned when he let him loose to join the herd. I must find out why!
that story actually took place when he was in Argentina. He spent most of his childhood there and he speaks Spanish like a true porteño (that's how we call a person who is born and raised in Buenos Aires)
Fantastic actor, his collaboration with Cronenberg had the potential to become one of the great collaborations between actor director, too bad Cronenberg decided to retire. And yeah, Aragorn is just the best :)
@@aldown I don’t think he has retired (he did movies in 2011 and 2014), he just hasn’t done a movie in a while because no one apparently wants to produce his next moviex
Fact - He added this duck-story to his directorial debut which was written by him about a fictional family, but he added parts of his real-life too into it, like the father suffering from dementia, and the residence being a ranch.
Jacob Vidrine do we know if his potential role ended up in the film? I looked it up but all I found was that he was supposed to play a “ruthless gang leader”. All I can think of is Channing Tatum’s character.
The first time I caught a fish I didn't want us to eat it...I just put it in the sink & kept pouring water over it hoping to keep it alive. Of course, I just prolonged its death but I was 8 & felt really bad about it.

He's so genuine and humble, amazing person.
I think Mr. Mortensen is the most fascinating individual in show business.
he speaks 6 languages
probably because he tries to stay out of the show business nonsense
Viggo: That's my duck !!
Viggo's mom: That's dinner

He also sprinted across New Zealand's terrains with two broken toes and all of his Aragorn gear.

He cant cause he is a Viking we don't digest compliments very well. Alkohol sure but compliments Are a vein mans endevour.
He's too humble 😁
I would love to like your comment but I don't want to ruin the 87 likes which is Aragorn's age at the time of the War of The Ring hehehehe

4 years later he’s released his directional debut with this exact story and im just so proud of him 🥺
if he only a clue how big part he plays in my childhood.. I literally spent 10 years swinging sticks in the air because of him..
Did anyone else imagine Strider sitting in that dark corner of The Prancing Pony with a duck on his shoulder?
I would personally imagine the duck kind of stuffed into his arrow quiver, with either head or tail feathers sticking out the top.
Or being crowned King Elessar with the duck in the background
Legolas in Rivendell: "This is no ordinary Ranger!! He is Aragorn, son or Arathorn....and that is his duck...."
Aragorn son of Arathorn
High king of Gondor and Arnor
You owe him your allegiance

Yeah, it happened in Argentina (he lived here from 2/3 years old to 11), and he told the story in several interviews for our TV shows.

How humble is Viggo Mortensen? SERIOUSLY!
Viggo, thanks for not becoming a serial killer
This man was my childhood hero...and still is today.
He's so rugged
There is nothing like a man's love for his duck

If Mel Gibson ever makes that Viking-movie, I think Viggo should have a big part in it! I miss his the Aragorn-hair ;)
Mickey Holmgaard with a cameo from that Hemsworth joker
But I don't miss Mel Gibson...
+teppolundgren well that's your loss. The man is an incredible director. What does it matter what he does in his free time? Is he a personal friend of yours? Stop being silly.
I think he meant Mel as director, he wanted to that Viking movie for years. Mel's an incredible director.
teppolundgren Ridiculous? It's a classic. One of my favorite movies and in my opinion one of the best modern epics.
It's so cool that he used this story in "Falling"
Richard Attenborough: "If you listen _very carefully,_ at 1:29 you can hear the rarely captured LOL of the Viggo..."
Pretty sure you meant David Attenborough. He is the wildlife guy. Richard is his brother the classic Filmmaker.

He's so serious that it's kinda funny
And now he used his childhood duck story on his last film "Falling". Cool

Please give Viggo a role in Game Of Thrones!

One of the most under-rated actors of our time! I would love to just sit and listen to his stories.

Conan: You really have these survival skills.
Well what else did you expect from a ranger from the North who spend years in the wild?!
This is such an adorable story.
Lil Viggo sounds adorable.
