    The Koreans have definitely jumped over the Japanese: Lexus, Infiniti and Acura. They are trying to hold middle ground by under cutting Germans: Mercedes, Audi and BMW with pricing. The only thing they need is better mpg and actual dealerships, maybe an SUV.
    Good job Genesis we are watching your reliability.

      I know the Genesis GV70 or GV80 is in the works for a launch sometime within the next 48 months. Genesis has been smart to roll out slowly, much like Lexus did when they first launched.

      I am at 25 mpg mix in a new 2020 AWD Stinger GT with this same TT V6.I leave it in comfort and drive about 10 over the limit--so I am cruising pretty decently>If you get on it--it will drink gas--but the acceleration is excellent with this engine.The interior and fit and finish is on Par with my last car--a Honda crosstour--which means it has a general feel of quality--buttons in the KIA have a nice "click" to all the buttons.It is also a very stable Hi speed car.It hits above its class--especially in price.

    Nice review and a very nice car 👍 What I don't like is automotive reviewers' constant need to compare interior room and whine about it. Ffs it's supposed to be a compact car. Because of this cars have grown larger and larger. If you want more space, buy a bigger car, i see no point complaining about the lack of space in anything other than a real passenger-oriented luxury car. I feel like this "compact" car is probably bigger than an old 5 series.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Compared to an E39 540i which we've featured, the BMW has more space. As far as space goes, we felt this was a lot like the 1992 Acura Vigor we filmed last year in terms of interior space, especially when it comes to the back seat leg room.

    • @ElPsiCongroo
      @ElPsiCongroo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The old 5 Series comparison was an exaggeration, and only really addressing that statement is intentionally dodging the point. Cars are designed for size classes and should be compared in space within its class; saying it doesn't have enough space in general may just be a complaint at the compact sedan class in general and might as well be faulting a minivan for not being fun to drive as other car classes. Comparing this to an Infiniti Q50 in space is deceptive since the Q50 is over 5 inches longer, which is actually the same length as the Stinger. Saying the space is about the same as the Mercedes C43 is actually really telling about how the Genesis utilizes its interior space since the C43 and G70 are the same length. So in other words, it's almost exactly class competitive space.

    • @benhaze1010
      @benhaze1010 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's why and actually I think a lot of reviewers are missing the boat on this topic. When Cadillac released the ATS every reviewer raved (and still do) about its handling, being even significantly better than the 3-series at the time. However the ATS has been a commercial flop mostly because of it small sized and also of course because of its lower badge appeal to the target audience. I fear the G70 will suffer the same faith for the very same 2 reasons. Interior and cargo space size wise it is really a competitor to the ATS/IS350/A3 so yes it is justified to "whine" about it.

  • @vladsaghin7644
    @vladsaghin7644 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    The crossover version of this will sell like hotcakes! I've actually already seen more G70s than Stingers even though it came to market almost a year later!

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Genesis does need to start rolling out those GV models, that’s for sure! While we personally prefer sedans/hatch/wagons over crossovers and SUVs, there’s no doubt the market wants them.

      @@PRNTestDrive Space! All the heights you mentioned easily clear 6 foot, so I think I won't mind. When I sit behind my own 5'7/8 driving position I have quite a bit of room. The G80 is overkill on space and I don't like that it doesnt have fold down seats. Or metal nubs on the steering wheel.

    I just test drove one today G70 3.3t Elite and I would say I am very impressed overall ! I’m currently driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Luxe AWD with 99% full bolt on and Ecutek tuned. (3.7-4.0 secs 0-60)
    But this G70 is a lot better over all. The Q50 transmission is like 10 years old technology and way behind the G70.
    G70 just need a JB4 piggy back system and it will beat on my tuned Q50 all day long....It’s an awesome car for the money!
    G70 includes
    3yrs/36 months free maintenance service.
    5 yrs/60 months bumper to bumper warranty
    10 yrs/100k miles powertrain warranty
    3years free roadside assistance and their

    Agreed on the interior, Genesis must have it's own HUD, infotainment, switches and dials, etc. It cannot be just a fancier Hyundai, it gotta be luxury. Though their pricing, warranty, concierge services are unbeatable.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Definitely true when it comes to the warranty and concierge services, they're really pushing that hard up here in Canada. The HUD isn't a deal killer for us, but we definitely want a unique look for the infotainment setup. If you're competing with BMW iDrive and Mercedes Comand, you need to offer something more than the Hyundai Accent has.

      TheMichaelRN Totally disagree. The main thing I’m looking for is smart and practical design, not design that keeps a bunch of engineers employed putting “Mercedes” or “BMW” infotainment control systems in a car despite the fact that they are harder to use, take up more dash space and are more dangerous because they’re distracting. Give me Apple CarPlay with touch screen and you’re way ahead of the Germans in actual usefulness and safety.

    One thing that really bugs me about this car, the Stinger, and others, that is the way the "infotainment" screen sits up so prominently, as if it's been glued to the dashboard as an afterthought. The G80 and G90 and many others have the screen integrated into the dash, which is a much better look. I am trying to get over this objection, but so far i can't.

    This car was on my shopping list but as you said it is so cramped inside, im 6.3 and couldn’t feel complete even sitting in it in showroom not to mention driving it for over an hour (my daily commute) I heard that in 2021 they are going to address that even its just a facelift but it seems the interior space is so killing it that they will fix it in the refresh rather than waiting for a new generation

    • @PRNTestDrive

      That's interesting, I haven't looked into any rumours about the facelift. A bit more space would be good on this, the BMW 3 Series didn't feel as tight, this was closer in terms of interior space to the Mercedes A-Class we did.

      Didn’t experience that with either car, and both had high mileage in terms of press cars. Usually these cars are beaten a lot harder by the journalists, and everything seemed to be solid on both. I feel that a press car will age twice as fast, so for the Genesis it had about 11,000km, but in terms of wear/tear would be like 22,000km if it was an owner’s own car.

    Hey There! That was a really good real-world review. I appreciate you pointing out some things that aren't so great as well as the good stuff. I didn't get that with MT's COTY review because it was all good stuff, pretty much. So, my lease on a 2016 Regal GS AWD is up in July and I like the car, but they're cheap on the interior. I have the 20" wheels so that really impacts front leg room and since I'm 6" and about 190, it's not the most comfortable. The 2019 GS looks better and looks more comfortable, but not improved enough to win me over. The G70 is on my shortlist to test drive, but I haven't yet. Do you think a guy my size would be comfortable in the car and are there other cars in the segment you recommend checking out? Thanks Nile, and again, great review - very helpful!

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also 6" and found the legroom to be good on the Genesis, but the seats don't go too far back. One of the small 'issues' I had was the easy-exit for the driver's seat, it's supposed to move back when you shut off the car but due to my seating position it was already further back than the programmed 'exit' distance. I'd definitely take it for a road test to see how you like it! Personally I prefer the Stinger over the G70, a bit more space I find.

    I really like this car. But I must say the interior is not where it needs to be. Some of he buttons look a lot like my elantra's. The infotainment system and the center counsel and dashboard needs remodeling imo.
    I could see problems in the rear seat as mentioned by OP. I fear not being able to put a babyseat comfortably.
    I felt like the car hugged me but if I going to spend on this car, I would like to have a beautiful center counsel and dashboard.

      It's a really solid vehicle, but like you said they do have a few things to work on. Space-wise I don't see much changing since the G80 offers more head room and leg space, but creating a different set of buttons and infotainment screen would go a long way!

      Great points! After seeing what BMW is doing for the next generation 3 Series, Genesis will need to work hard to catch up. Apparently they already have a complete digital cluster for the Korean market, but continuous improvements will definitely help them sell.

    • @AMan-he9sz

      Actually, to say they should walk before they run is really just a brand whore trying to reconcile the fact that no other brand can touch this car in a direct comparison, INCLUDING PRICE. Once you consider price, no one else even comes close. You can't compare this to cars costing 15 grand more for the same features/grunt.

    Unbelievable that you would compare this vehicle to ANY other. It is in a class of it's own. Every time you start to open your mouth to criticize anything about this vehicle, consider the price, and you will be forced to shut your mouth. You can't compare the infotainment in this vehicle to BMW or Mercedes (both of which have shitty systems, IMO) because it costs a minimum of 10 grand less than either one of those brands, for similar kit/performance. And more like 15 grand less (I'm talking U.S. dollars, but applies to Canadian as well). When you consider price, and level of execution, this vehicle simply can't be compared to any car by another maker. BTW, I'm not necessarily a fanboy - I've owned one Kia and no Hyundai products. Let's face it - Kia/Hyundai are schooling the rest of the industry. It's so entertaining to watch.

    • @PRNTestDrive

      We hear a lot about Kia's awful lease/finance rates in comparison to the competition. It's something that isn't really discussed in reviews, since market conditions really affect the bottom line price you're paying per month, but we always hear from viewers that Kia monthly payments are too high. Genesis seems to know what they're doing, most people in the luxury segment lease, so make the terms appealing and affordable!
