My brother was in the US Marines stationed there when this happened, he was on rescue duty. It took him years to talk about what happened there, but when he did he said the most traumatic thing he had ever experienced was pulling toddlers lifeless bodies out of the rubble and holding back the grieving parents due to bacteria and radiation. Even those who didn’t have someone directly close to them were affected by this horrible disaster even to this day.
That your brother for his service, and I hope he can find peace amid such horrible memories. My son is also a Marine.. just retired from them.

As a Japanese, it was really hard to watch. The whiteboard in the nursing home says ”Birthday party”. They must've been celebrating someone’s birthday that day.
In Fukushima, losing their home means losing their identity. Families and communities are way more important there than they are in big cities. They’d lived in the same spot for generations. That's why they want to move back even though it's still not safe to live there. It's not just their land, it's also their ancestor’s.

I was on a holiday in Japan when this happened I was in Omagari, I was quite a fairway from Fukushima but when I heard the news I was rather freaked out.
Hopefully they will get their homes back.
If this isn't the TV show then I can't imagine how the actual TV show is.

What really hit me hard was when you went into the music room. Seeing all the papers on the floor from the panic when it hit. I have bad Anxiety and I can feel the pain and fear, it’s really hitting me hard.

I remember when this all happened. We actually had an exchange student from that area at my school. I remember sitting in history class with him when we got the news about the earthquake. I can’t even begin to imagine what he was thinking or feeling, especially being so far away from home.
He felt not radioactiv prolly
It was a sad day for us in Japan on March 11, 2011 when the big earthquake hit us and had a tsunami. Took so many lives but Japan is strong and we will keep continue to grow. Thank you for filming and exploring the experience of Fukushima.

Because of Josh I have fell in love with wanting to know more about fukushima and chernobyl
shawna shuman me to!! I even started to write and essay about this event for my high school English paper and everyone in my class had no idea that this event even happened... we later watched documentaries about it and now my class of 2020 knows about this terrible event.
I actually know alot about Fukushima and Chernobyl. They are a big part of why I am studying engineering. Im very interesting in what caused the disasters, and how the disasters effect people. I am only studying Chemical engineering right now, but all of this is still extremely fascinating from a science standpoint. Theres also how radiation effects wildlife and plants. Like the ecosystem is changed by it.
My mom was born in Ukraine and lived there during Chernobyl
I cannot fathom something happening that you literally have to leave your home and everything you own behind and never be able to go back. My heart aches for all those who have gone through something like that.

My grandpa had just passed away last year and I was told some amazing things he had done while being on this planet and he was the main person who wrote out the original clean up plans for this nuclear power plant back in 2011. I was sent his paper on his PowerPoint he gave to I guess scientist in China. It makes me feel good to know he did something that had a big impact and it’s still in the works.
Have always wanted to see more into Fukushima. Thanks for sharing Josh. It truly is a capsule in time.

That's great news to hear that you now have a TV show to help finance your adventures. I have been watching you for a while and always thought this would make an interesting TV show, but there are already some out there on NATGEO and Vice. I think what sets yours apart is your personality, it's infectious and fun and you convey that sense of adventure well to the viewer. Sometimes I can feel your excitement right through the lens. I am looking forward to seeing you with a more professional crew going to more remote locations.
If there was one bit of advice I could give it would be to try and be more knowledgeable about the places you are exploring and the things that you find in there. I know that takes resources to research all that info but now you have them maybe work on that a bit more. If you had more of a factual backstory on the places you explore it would make them more compelling.
Anyway, good luck with the show and I can't wait to see the places you go and the things you see. Stay safe and keep on exploring the world and bringing it to us to experience as well.

I still remember where I was when I found out about the earthquake and tsunami. I was in 6th grade and my teacher turned the news on because our school’s guidance counselor’s son was in Fukushima for a job and he was missing. I remember my class following the search for him for 3 days until he was found after the disaster. It’s crazy to see it after the disaster! And how much they’ve cleaned up.

This video impresses me so much Josh and it comes clearly through how mixed your emotions must have been while you and Cody have been there in Fukushima but I get you both so well. This place is so overwhelming on the one hand but on the other hand it has a heart breaking effect on me because these places are so highly contaminated... I hope that people will one day develop a method to free these areas from all the contamination so that living there will be possible again but maybe this will only be a hope and dream... It's horrible what we've already done to our earth and I fear it's getting worse if we don't want to change our way of thinking. Everyone of us is just some kind of visitor and guest on this planet but many act and behave like they would own it instead of saving it. You see that your video made me really emotional and thinking, too...
