I worked on those Jags for a living as a mechanic at a dealer. You need to take it up on the highway and blow out the intake on a regular basis or your EGR system will clog up like Chris Farley's arteries. Also, if you let it sit long enough it will loose compression and will not start until you crank on it for about 5 to 10 minutes. Be sure to check for a rubber vacuum hose on the back of the top of the motor that has a 90 degree turn in it. It degrades over time and will become a vacuum leak. That part fails on these so much that if it has never been replaced, you just know it's bad. I can't remember if it's the same on the supercharged engine though. Clean the EGR inlets on the valve covers with a paper clip and clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner regularly.
Check the bushings on your front A-Arms to make sure they are not plastic, the plastic ones were recalled because they crack and fail.

dvddecrypter Thankfully mine has none of those issues but I was already aware of them. This time it's just the aux coolant pump (supercharger, not climate) which is being replaced this weekend with a Bosch pump from a Mercedes V12 (the discount option). Some hacking required..

I always lusted over the XJR's. They have so much class. The '95 XJ6 would be much more friendly to my budget though. If anyone was looking for one of these I would push them hard toward the straight six because it was such a solid motor.

Thanks Alex! I have seen much of BlueDrivers info today, but I think you have done an overall better job of selling it to me.

Hey Alex @ about 4.53 when you began scanning trouble codes, how long does it actually take to populate the page?? I am a car dealer and this is my major concern while at auctions i need to scan dozens of cars in a very short period of time so speed is critical. For some reason from all my research this is one thing no one discuss. All these features are great to have but it seems like it slows down the time it takes from plug in to me seeing what codes are present. Thanks!

Fun video. Nice job. Couple of points:
As I understand it, the dongles themselves are somewhat generic. I got one for $17 on ebay that's wifi instead of bluetooth. But the outer case appears to be identical to yours, which tells me that the chipset and code are generic. Makes sense. I got a $9 app for the iPhone from Palmer Performance, and it differs from yours a little. It does real time very customizable gauges, and that's cool because I keep an old iPhone permanently in the car and use it as a gauge panel. But as far as reading and clearing codes, Palmer and what you have are functionally the same.
Second point: it needs to be said that just because you have the trouble code, the actual fix is something you need a real tech to diagnose. The thing NOT to do is read an oxygen sensor code, replace the oxygen sensor, and assume that was the problem. A bunch of things could cause that O2 code, and not many of them are the sensor itself. With your intercooler code, it could be a coolant level issue, the temp sensor itself, the wiring to the sensor, a blockage in the coolant passages, a bleeding issue, or it could actually be the pump as the code suggests. It's important not to get too hung up on the actual code.
Nice Jag by the way. I flirt with buying a late model Jag because the depreciation makes them such screaming deals. Then I remember Jags reputation for trouble, and get cold feet. And then I get enamored of getting an old Jag and plopping a small block chevy in it. Choices choices.

There are generic ones and there are more expensive ones that have different chipset and are not only multiple times faster in reading live data (useful when using gauges) but also read proprietary protocols like ford/Mazda and in that case they actually can read codes from more car subsystems than generic ones. But any reader, expensive or 5 dollars cheap is great fun to have. Especially if your car foes not have trip computer with fuel economy, DashCommand or Torque can do that. Another very good reader similar to Bluedriver is OBDLink MX which I have.

I downloaded the App free and installed it on my iPhone SE. The download and install went perfectly. The first test was on a 2013 Chevy Silverado pickup that had the Check Engine light on. I scanned the codes and the error was in the "Vapor Recovery System". I was already familiar with this error but the trouble-shooting guide recommended checking the gas cap. We tightened the cap, reset the code and the Check Engine light was gone and has not returned for one month.
I leave the module plugged into the OBD2 port on my 2011 Mercedes GL350 (Diesel) constantly. I tow a trailer with the SUV so it lets me monitor the engine as we travel. I am a Mechanical Engineer that studied Automotive Engineering at Oregon State U. (1972) (Beavers) so I was not intimidated by the 70+ parameters that were supported in the logging mode.
I love the real-time logging feature so I can monitor Engine Oil Temp, Boost Pressure (absolute), Fuel Useage(GPH), Boost Air Temperature, and Atmospheric Pressure.
I am towing the trailer again this week with the real-time logging running, when yesterday, on hwy 93 in Idaho, the middle of nowhere, the engine dies! We miraculously find a place to safely pull off the 2-lane (no shoulder) highway and my wife starts calling our subscription towing service, I look at the JDiag Fastlink M2 code reader app now that we are stopped, and I can now see a warning that the fuel pressure is low. I can smell diesel also so I know there is a leak. I open the hood, remove the pretty cover (so I can see what's going on), and I have my wife start the engine. I can see fuel gushing out, I yell STOP!! Thank goodness it's diesel as it is hot today. I get an update from the towing company and they will be there in 10 hours. I start looking for a broken fuel hose/connector. I find that the connector is good but the wire clip has come off the female side. I look around the engine compartment and I locate it, I retrieve it, re-install it, and put the connector back together. My wife re-starts the car, no leak, so we put on the pretty cover, cleaned up with simple green and a paper towel, and head down the road. All thanks to the JDiag Faslink M2 obd2 scanner that was plugged in, logging, and told me where to look!

Hi Alex. Nice scanner review. You must be a gluten for owning problem prone cars, double whammy. A jag AND a Saab??? you have Only 1 Jag? Must benew to them as every veteran jag owner knows, as the old saying goes, you need two.. One to drive while the other is in for repair.. you should be getting your monies worth from that scanner. good luck . Thanks for the review. looks like a nice tool for the box, Believe I'll pick one up

Hi Alex, I've been looking into this scanner to use in a TDI Audi, one of the many things to do would be to monitor it's DEF level. Is this scanner capable of going that in depth? Or would I need to invest in a dedicated scanner? I am also assuming if I ran the smog test on it it would pass haha...
