In this context 'Trump proofing' means doing exactly what Trump wants, to avoid future criticism from him. He managed to get NATO member to increase their defence budgets to agreed levels, without even asking, and he's not even president yet. That's REAL power. Trump is not aligned with Putin. Trump was the only US President since Clinton in which Russia has not invaded one of its neighbors.
The source of the claim that Trump was "colluding" with Putin was a Clinton campaign dirty trick from 2016 in which Hillary's campaign paid a former British spy to generate a bunch of BS accusations that Trump was "colluding" with Putin.
